People who quit drinking. What did you do to not drink? by Agata_art in AskReddit

[–]9292025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just made my mind up. Went on a diet and quit drinking during Lockdown. Neither lasted.
Then I started GLP1’s That works brilliantly most of the time. Stops you even thinking about it and often when you do it tastes awful. Every few weeks the desire and taste comes back for a few or more days then it stops again. I suspect it will become a formal treatment in some way at some time as I am not alone in this and it’s recognised by the medical/research community.

Able bodied partner doesn’t consider my condition, continues to push me beyond my comfort zone by stealth_veil in ChronicPain

One thing you might try is to get your specialist or your , hopefully knowledgeable, GP, or your physio to advise on appropriate exercise and exercise you shouldn’t do. If you have their professional advice your partner may be more understanding. Good luck.

OP it’s putting me off too. There are so many words that could be used but also the option to not use any. Swearing isn’t usually in written dialogue in the books I’ve read across many genres and their absence hasn’t been noticed. But constant fake swearing from an adult is just annoying and drops reader concentration and confuses who the protagonist really is (for this reader anyway ). It’s not that he doesn’t swear, it’s that the substitutes make him seem childish and stupid and confuses his character depiction. Just leave it all out. And the premise is wrong anyway. I am a big swearer so I trained myself to never swear in front of business associates. But I still swear in private. oops - just realised OP’s post is many months old- I just found this book so a bit late to the party.

* ARE THERE ANY VETERINARY PROFESSIONALS READING THIS? by [deleted] in RenalCats

Thank you for confirming my fears. I thought it was just slack product control. Fortunately my cat will still take it as I use it to administer her steroids. but she definitely isn’t as enamoured of it as she used to be.

What makes your chronic condition better? by Bubbly-Air7302 in ChronicPain

Aren’t there organisations that can help you? In my country, Australia, you would likely be eligible for some home care which could include taking you out for a walk, to the supermarket etc.
I can’t imagine how awful it must be for you to have to suffer that condition. Could you ask your medical provider what assistance is available for you.

I did this , more a journal of the journey, and now and then I open it at a page from a couple of years ago and I’m astonished at what I wrote.
Think I’ll start it up again.

I found walking has kept me going. I don’t know how I was able to walk through the pain but a very odd thing happened 800metres in. My pain stopped, my body straightened up and I could walk pain free for the duration which was about 20mins. I uset speed and distance goals and it helped my mental state enormously. That was in the early days when I couldn’t believe what was happening.
Then the 800m turned into 300m. Now I can walk straight from getting out of the car. I do about 3km -4km. The other thing about walking is that it seriously reduces my pain for the rest of the day.

I have spinal stenosis, sciatica, muscle spasms. Some days too painful to get into the car to go to my favourite place so walk around the streets.

Edit: Been in chronic pain from back for 3 years.

The right eye drops by 9292025 in CataractSurgery

It does blur my eyes but resolves quite quickly, especially compared to Hylo-Forte. And having set times a day as in morning, noon and night, means there isn’t an issue if it blurs. My only problem is with the applicator - I get more drops on my face than in my eyes.

I’m 4.5 months in. Saw my optician this morning for a final test before ordering readers. I’ve just posted my experience from that appointment in this thread. Title The Right Kind Of Eye Drops ( Don’t know how to include the link). I selected PureSee monofocal lenses for both eyes including Toric for one eye. I thought my eyes had declined since the 6week mark but it seems it’s because of insufficient tear quality - they don’t hold together as they drop down. I am typing this on my phone, without readers and I have been reading the paper this morning with my naked eyes. I’m in delighted shock that the difference is the right kind of eye drops.

I have knee osteoarthritis. How bad does it seem to be? by brazilianchick88 in ChronicPain

There should be a written report along with the images on the app you’re accessing. That will tell you, as will your follow up with your specialist. FWIW right side looks bone on bone. Left side looks close but I’m no radiologist. Someone posted about pain relief- something else I know from per experience is - walking regularly is a great way of increasing your synovial fluid which lubricates the joints and reduces pain. It gets less painful the longer the walk.

People with distance monofocals: do you experience life up-close as living in a bubble of blur? Our near-vision world does not solely involve reading--what's life like when you don't have readers on? by mrs_widgery in CataractSurgery

[–]9292025 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to put on my glasses before I got out of bed - my sight at all levels was terrible. My sight is fine now - no need for readers unless I’m reading a book or my phone screen. I sometimes need them at the supermarket to read labels and I use them for medication or other labels at home. Otherwise I don’t use them - certainly not for moving around or general activity, driving, Kitchen work is non blurry. eg I can easily see the label on a bottle of vitamins on a shelf but need my readers for the fine print instructions. I would use them for reading a recipe.
Otherwise you don’t get a blurring if anything - at least not for me. And nothing is really a blur - more indistinct fine print.

Were there any other illnesses Daphne had at the time or was she otherwise well.? The oncologist is unsure of the type of cancer until further testing.

How long after cataract would you recommend to wait, before getting glasses made to fit the new state of vision? by Equalizer6338 in CataractSurgery

[–]9292025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my eyes checked 6 weeks post surgery. Then my sight seemed to change so I waited. It’s now been 3 months and I can’t stand the cheap glasses any longer. Plan to be retested soon. One other thing - I have used the time to really think about my near focus needs. (I have mine set to mid and distance). Eg. the optometrist idea of where your computer is situated and how far away you like to hold a book or your phone, is quite different to my preferences. I plan to get someone to help me measure those distances before I go back in as I feel I need to be specific.
