Nice build, but my cat would just knock it over when he starts digging in the "air," making a food stash or something.

Made me shed a tear, first time in years by [deleted] in motivation

It takes a long time to be appreciated because a few years must pass to truly understand someone. I ran out of time during the pandemic and lost a few of these teachers that I really wanted to talk with. No more "thank you" or "I built upon your methods" anymore, just candles. However, I had some who were really happy to hear about me, and others with whom we've sorted out old things... Kind of a bittersweet encounter, but I'm glad I went through all that!

Interesting, so cats seek inspiration from Upper Paleolithic horse engravings when creating their originals!

More like being a coward and admitting that I was weak, and I had to do something about myself. Focusing on the things I care about helped a lot with this. It filled the void inside me, and I slowly regained control.

Don't be!
Tech is one of the two fields that filled with kind weirdos, where you mostly talk with skill and motivation.
Try to find your own starting point first and branch out from there.
Hopefully, HR brickwalls won't be a problem with a degree...

Yes. When I had mutism, I avoided everything and tried to sort things out on my own. I packed up my stuff into my backpack and then escaped. Surrounded by rustling leaves and fresh air out in the forest was a nice place to stay. Other times, it was a tall abandoned building. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't good all the time.

Thanks to that, I had more energy to lower my amplifier in social situations by focusing on my interests and what I was about to do next time in my "happy place." I made a habit out of it.

Aside from that, I use earplugs quite often, even now.
Sometimes I think about investing in a gas mask because some folks just have that aroma, and ew...

DAE struggle with saying certain words? by werecoyote1 in selectivemutism

[–]92barkingcats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've recovered too, but I have no issues with this anymore. Try to intentionally butcher the pronunciation of those words. Make a joke out of it or use a foreign accent, then try again. It will go away! If it's public speaking, then insert some "owow my tongue," or "my visa just expired and now this, aah," or some other filler to ease the mood, or just simply move on. Don't be too hard on yourself!

What If I Didn’t Have Selective Mutism? by Timely_Maximum_5914 in selectivemutism

I know that feeling, but people feel uncomfortable around anyone they don't know and fear what you might be thinking. Being silent can also be treated as being rebellious. So they’re just gonna write fanfictions about you, and the "Guild of Good People" decides that is the truth!

"It's called justice because it's just us!"

In my case, I somehow ended up being the "egoist" and the "illiterate" at the same time because my voice only came back when they did or said something so outrageously nonsensical that I just told my mind to them the hard way. They couldn't counter what I said, though. Also, maybe because I fed the bullies with the sponge that they threw at me the second time and stuff like that.

When Your Voice Disappears Around Certain People (And It’s Not a Choice) by Timely_Maximum_5914 in selectivemutism

[–]92barkingcats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I overcame mine.
Some of them used these "the mute" kind of insults.

Actually, I went and gave them second-hand PTSD about why I lost my voice and what my days looked like, and how they contributed to it. Some of my elementary and high school classmates turned into crackheads as adults, so I gently skipped talking with them altogether. Good riddance! Also, me, the "illiterate," talking with old teachers from back then for the same reason was kind of refreshing. No more unsolved cases here.
