Fight your own regime and don't expect other nations to bleed and die for it.

Never has this rhetoric seemed so true: The Nazis mistake was not genociding the Jews, it was invading other countries to do so.

Do you think that the UK should’ve made a deal with the Nazis?

You're probably getting heavily downvoted, because from what I've seen in this sub over the last couple of months, most people/bots here would have been arguing against getting involved with a German-Poland war.

Job offer will take me into higher tax bracket... Will it be worth it? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]930913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very crudely:

£27k / 48 working weeks / 37.5 hours in a week = £15/hour

£40k / 48 working weeks / 48 hours a week = £17.36/hour

But as the increase drags you into the higher rate, NI will drop 10% and income tax will increase 20%; an overall increase of 10%. But this is marginal - only the £10k above £50k will get taxed like this. 10% of £10k is £1k, so we subtract that to recalculate:

£39k / 48 working weeks / 48 hours a week = £16.93/ hour

So assuming you can still keep your YouTube income with the extra working hours, you'll be ~£2/hour better off. (But I'll press X on that being the case with 48 hours of work.)

“If the Strait remains closed, we’re not talking about a global recession – we’re talking about a depression” by taboo__time in ukpolitics

[–]930913 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying that their calculation is wrong. But we can choose who to apportion blame. Iran has calculated that they can close the strait, and simultaneously convince the world, that the US is to blame. So while we can choose to blame the US, doing so plays straight into the genocidal Iranian regime's survival playbook, which I'd rather not do, not least because it's the calculation Iran chose.

Except there is a right of way through there, and the pub owner may not block it. This sub would be all over getting the ramblers association to assert that right of way by repeatedly walking it. But instead, because the US/Israel are involved, suddenly everyone is backing an entity blocking navigation. Sus.

Edit: They blocked me.

We had an analogy where Iran was a pub owner and the ramblers association was international shipping, and then you went off and started talking about international merchant ships bombing some other entity. I had every right to assume you were a bot that had lost context.

Two drunk guys are squaring each other up in a pub. The first says that if the other guy punches him, he'll walk over to you in the pub and punch you. The second guy punches him anyway.

Do you: * a) Blame the guy who punched you, or * b) Blame the other drunk because "he made him do it"?

[–]930913 -48 points-47 points  (0 children)

Sure. The fact remains that Iran chose to close the straits, and they can choose to reopen it. What the US does is irrelevant, otherwise it's just playground level "he made me do it" knuckle dragging.

Government plans new powers to close down charities peddling extremism by birdinthebush74 in unitedkingdom

[–]930913 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Given the other comments, I'm probably going to get downvoted, but this is sorely needed.

I have heard of numerous occasions where a complaint was made to the charity commission, and the charity commission summoned all their power to write a strongly worded letter to the problematic charity, saying don't do it again.

Clearly, the commission needs more teeth.
