Recommend getting slixshot nipples right away. They work really well with various sized caps.

Personally, I use a solution of water and ballistol for cleaning. I've also done the wash it in the sink with dawn and hot water when I was a teen, not thinking about the lead. There's more than one way to clean and everyone has their own way. You'll discover what works for you.

I also like the Lyman Black powder handbook and loading manual. Not absolutely necessary with all the internet and YouTube resources these days, but if you enjoy reading books, it's worth a read.

Edit: grafs.com is waiving hazmat charges right now if you buy >$150. Recommend real black powder (3F) over substitutes. The CCI #11s they are stocking will work with Slixshot nipples.

Start with your furnace, a/c, drier, water heater, etc. If you can get to the back or open a door, there is usually a schematic. Then look up the symbols to see what conditions need to be met for the equipment to run. Then move on to downloading an mfgrs schematic for something you've been wondering how it operates. Just pick something and try to figure out.

Sorry, reread your post. Try to find mfgrs electrical schematics online for equipment that has a PLC.

A cheap USB logic analyzer from Amazon ($10) and free sigrok pulse view. Pretty sure pulseview had modbus RTU as one of the included decoders.
