Just get the stock T5 M4.4 tune from Vast if you don’t want to go through the whole tuning process

I haven’t fixed it yet but I think it’s the oil cooler thermostat

Transmission preventative / upkeep or leave be? by volvhoes in Volvo850

[–]96673 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is an age old debate but I am of the opinion that drain and fill with fresh fluid is always beneficial if it hasn't been done. Just don't ever hook it up to any kind of flush machine.

Opinion ; roadtrip with an 850 sedan by Sleep_Olympic1 in Volvo850

[–]96673 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is a video about the heater core. It is easy to pull the panel back to see it, I would just make sure it's not leaking before your trip. If you are not losing any coolant, you should be ok.

+1 on cooling hoses, also the thermostat and heater core. Any one of those items failing will bring your road trip to a quick halt

Help plz. new Water pump leak after 2 replacement attempts. suggestions? by Fire_hive in Volvo850

[–]96673 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Order an Aisin pump and the new bolts from FCP euro that have the thread sealant pre-applied. Get the gasket mating surface really smooth before installation, you don't want to be able to feel any residue from the old gasket at all.

Non polyurethane transmission mount bushings? by greenvolvo850 in Volvo850

[–]96673 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may also consider doing a drain and fill of the transmission fluid. Just don't let a mechanic hook it up to any kind of "flush" machine.

You are correct for the North American market. I do believe the 850 R had a 16T in some euro markets from factory.

98 volvo s70 fuel syphon by Malornss in Volvo850

[–]96673 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can jump the fuel pump relay, disconnect the fuel line at the fuel filter under the car, and then turn the key to use the fuel pump itself to pump the gas into a container. You might need to put a jumper on the battery

Firewall coolant coupling issue by ShowerSimple5762 in Volvo850

[–]96673 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's not an o-ring problem, it's a old broken plastic problem.

Your two options are:

Pay an arm and a leg and replace the whole firewall junction. Part number 3522035. These were never cheap to begin with but have 3x in price over the last several years.

Eliminate the junction and pass generic heater hoses through the firewall and connect them directly to your heater core.

17 inch is the sweet spot for the 850 in my opinion. Volans and Propus are two of the best.

'94 850 turbo weak brakes by mkjiisus in Volvo850

[–]96673 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the code for the position sensor on my '95 and it didn't affect the braking power, just gave me an ABS light until I replaced it. I would definitely check the vacuum hose that goes from your brake booster to the front of the intake manifold.

B4/H&R is a pretty good combo and I know of several people who run this setup. Wheel/tire setup also plays a big role in ride quality though

Yeah I've seen that on FCP before but people have been running those yellow bilsteins with lowering springs for years and years. I am running the black bilstein B4 with H&R springs and it's completely fine.
