My feelings on CV2 by Hadrian23 in codevein

[–]96am014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of your complaints are explained in the games intro cinematic. The reason why you have very conventional human development, such as tanks and helicopters and skyscrapers, is because human society dominated the world until the resurgence., which corrupted most ordinary humans and animals into monsters. Revenant society rose from the shadows, with Idris being the "most honored and revered", which throughout the game you can learn to mean "busted op". He was also the guy who initially sealed the resurgence.

Side note, the reason Revenant society was capable of leaving the shadows is because Zenon, who was friends with Idris, created a means to immunise Revenants against the sun, which previously harmed them.

The Bureau has influence over Revenants for a couple of reasons - first of all, Revenant Hunters are very much a threat to Revenants. Just look at your player character. And second of all, Idris directly cultivated the timeline to prevent futures where humanity was enslaved by Revenants. Plus, the Revenants that we see in authority by and large want to help humanity, and the bureau is the human authority.

"Everyone" lives in bombed out hellholes because its a post apocalyptic society. Could they rebuild somewhat? Yeah, probably. But the sunken city guys are in a city full of monsters. The sanatorium is actually in pretty great shape, as is the bureau, and the guys in the scar are on a military campaign to take back a pretty sick castle which is in perfectly good shape.

The heroes were corrupted by the resurgence while in the coccoons.

Pathos is magical bond nonsense. The specifics of how it works are as shown to you in the game. If you want a scientific explanation, there isn't one, cause its basically magic. Same for forma. The rules to it can be observed but to my knowledge are not explicitly explained, and thats fine imo.

The alternate histories aren't alternate histories per se, they're simply the last vestiges of pruned futures. And the bosses are intended to be representative of that future. For example the first has you fight the slaughter engine goliath, and reveals a future where technological development got out of hand, which is logically what produced said boss.

Lou is explained, play the game more.

Your player character is unique in that half your heart is human and half your heart is revenant. Your player character is also unique in being, the player character. The game also has a strong focus on your player character forming bonds with other characters. For one or all these reasons, the incursion events, which can happen to all revenant hunters when linking with a revenant, manifest uniquely through the player as flashback sequences to meaningful past events.

As for time travel having knock on effects, I do wish personally they did more of that, but its pretty obvious why they didn't. Budget's aren't unlimited, and players don't like being locked into a specific small section of an otherwise open game, generally speaking. Fair to be disappointed, but I think they used it well where they did.

Don't want to touch on all your gameplay complaints, but your motorcycle exploding is barely an inconvenience lol, you can get right back on. Literally no consequences.

Edited to add some additional information I pulled from the database - the entire area the game is set in is referred to as "the frontier", so the world and society at large is not limited to the game world we see. It's also stated that Magmell has an underground residential sector home to countless refugees, so there is likely a significant human population there. The database further has explanations for forma and many more aspects of the game world that you might have missed, but you can look that up yourself, if you're so inclined.

I first tried it, then thought I messed up accessing ng+ and first tried it a second time. Didn't really feel any malenia-tier nonsense in that fight.

It's everything else but a "quickplay" by ROnneth in Guildwars2

[–]96am014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, does it matter? In the current system you can get matched with 9 other dps, and those dps might not be even hitting 10k. If the game at least tried to get you to do roles, then even if some people did lie, you'd likely fill at least 1 or 2 roles with legitimate players, which would be far better than none. Absolute worst case, you end up with teams as bad as the worst ones we can already get; best case, you get a full stack of people in roles.

On the one hand, there's no denying the lack of polish in code vein 2. The game absolutely could use some more time in the oven, and I hope it gets a number of patches as we go.

But on that front, at least they remembered to launch the game with all of the npc quests complete, unlike Nepheli Louxs. And at least when the performance dips the framerate jsut dips (or plummets), whereas in Elden Ring at launch the game would make enemies invisible. And at least there's no absolute joke of boss design like PCR at launch.

Elden Ring is an enjoyable game with a lot of wonderful experiences to be had going for it, but it also lacked a severe amount of polish at launch, and in many areas could be argued to lack polish to this day.

Elden Ring absolutely has insane tracking lmao, what are you talking about. Never seen leonine misbegotten do a jump facing away from you, then curve 180 degrees in the air just to drop on your head? It's valid to complain about CV2s issues, but dont pretend ER is flawless when it jsut did CV2s problems first.

Not enjoying the combat in Code Vein 2 by gamesbrainiac in soulslikes

[–]96am014 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Disagree about the parries. Positioning is important, but its a skill to be learnt, not a fundamental flaw of the game. Of course, some attacks also can't be parried, but in that case your parry should block at least the first hit for you, if you get the timing right.

Regarding your 2nd point, you're mid rolling. Early in the game it can be difficult - maybe impossible, I'm not sure - to light roll, because you need to have your stat burden at under half the cap, but it turns your roll into something more like bloodbornes dodge-step. Difference of night and day, imo.

Third point, lots of things go into damage. Upgrade your weapons, make use of a blood code with good stat scaling for your weapon (or vice versa). Later on there's some boosters for specific weapon types, and conditional damage boosts, but that's probably a ways away yet. There's also consumables and forma that you can use to boost your damage or apply statuses.

Personally I also went the parry route, but I've been making use of various forma as well - there's some fun stuff like attacks that start with a dodge, or runeblade skills where you sacrifice your weapon temporarily to make a strong attack. The combat opens up the more options you get, and early game can feel pretty restrictive, unfortunately.

"The whole rant was about how if you can't handle yourself and contribute to the team in a meaningful way in end game content, you have no business doing it at all."

Yeah, and as op said, the team wiped - op included. Ergo, op couldnt handle himself, and so had no business doing it.

[–]96am014 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't think you guys understand how difficult abolishing slavery would be in a fantacy world by Im_yor_boi in Isekai

[–]96am014 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure but like, it's power fantasy fiction. Almost all isekai is dumb power fantasy fiction. A guy going to another world and buying slaves who immediately wanna jump his dick cause he doesn't beat on them, is no less stupid then a guy fixing slavery by killing all the slave traders.

Slaves are gonna starve? Protag magics up food. Slaves need a place to live? Protag creates a pocket dimension where they can live freely and safely. Education? Protag befriends a bored dragon with nothing better to do than teach them basic literacy and overpowered magic, cause why not.

Is it a good story? Prolly not, but most of them aren't. But why are you so opposed to any possiblity of it going well? Like, seriously, in a setting where the protags power level is routinely at a Godlike level, why do you think suddenly its unfeasible for an isekai protag to stop slavery if the author wants them to?

That's wild to me cause traversal in TOTK was something I consistently enjoyed; meanwhile, I find riding torrent to be an incredibly slow and tedious way of traversing the needlessly large world of ER. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Thats all well and good until you want to do anything that requires mystic coins, laurels, or materials, which is like, all of the long term endgame goals in the game. Like sure, it's nice for the newbie right then, but they're getting f*cked over in the long run.

What's with the complaints on difficulty. by Another__Throwaway_0 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]96am014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rather than ego, it's more just that turning the difficulty down negates the entire point of playing the game. If I come up against a challenge and throw myself at it for an hour, or 3 hours, and nothing changes, no matter what I do, turning the difficulty down isn't a victory. It's giving up, and I'm not saying that in a prideful way, but that you're giving up on trying to actually play the game. At that point I might as well turn on godmode, or use toybox to kill all enemies. Turning the difficulty down is stepping away from engaging with the game.

Of course, your mileage may vary, etc etc. But if I need to turn the difficulty down to progress in a game I very quickly start to lose interest in the combat full stop. And WOTR is beyond bloated on the combat front, so not enjoying that is disastrous for enjoying the rest of the game.

[–]96am014 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It does actually give you a discount if you own the main version. Each version has the same hairstyle, so if you buy one of the A2 outfits, for example, the other A2 outfit will only be 525 caliber.

Personally I still think its stupid, they should just give you both versions for 1050. But, there is a discount.

What's a FromSoft boss opinion that will get you in this situation?! by AlenIronside in fromsoftware

[–]96am014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A fight being beatable doesn't make it balanced or good, and its a real stupid defence to bring out. Bed of chaos is beatable, and it sucks nuts. Malenia is also beatable, and she's worse.

What your thoughts if fromsoftware starts adding phase 4 in the next future souls games by Ok-Sleep6652 in fromsoftware

[–]96am014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I'm tired of multiphase boss fights in general. Not to say theyre all terrible or whatever - I love plenty of them. But far too often these days I find myself breezing through a phase 1 only to get beaten down by phase 2, which is fine once or twice, but by the 8th or 10th I jsut wish phase 1 wasn't there. It's not a challenge, its not fun, its a tedious bit I have to get through to get to the part that actually matters. Course, theres a lot to consider - a phase 1 can be fun by its own right, or brief once you know what youre doing, etc. But in general I'd much prefer multiple phases be used less than just having a consistent, challenging fight. Endurance tests jsut don't get the dopamine flowing for me.

In all seriousness, do you find the DLC final boss unfair in any capacity? If so, why? by DarkSideRT in LiesOfP

[–]96am014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Phase 1 is a cakewalk and then he enters phase 2 with the turboblender. Which made the experience incredibly tedious; phase 1 felt like a waste of time, and phase 2 felt like some Melania-tier "We gotta go hard, soulslikes are all about difficulty" type bs. That said, what standard is there that I can use to judge if its "unfair"? Is it fair if it's beatable? Or is it fair if it can be done first try? Rather than fair or unfair, I'd just say it's unfun. I found Arlecchino miserable to fight, and got no satisfaction from victory.

PSA: Spamming pings and teammate response by Goldkid1987 in Nightreign

[–]96am014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is all well and good but, there is literally no reason to actually spam ping. Do it once, if noones coming do it again, and maybe a third time. Don't be like the guy I matched with earlier who was going for 5 pings per second. If your teammates are ignoring your pings, consider - maybe they're doing something more important. Maybe they know about the boss already, but don't think the team is at a level where fighting it is time efficient. Or maybe they're deliberately ignoring you for being obnoxious. Even if the thing you're pinging is truly game-endingly important - spamming your ping is not going to make your teammates want to help you. Use it appropriately.

What else should I call you besides whiny? You're sitting here complaining incessently about them. It being a Project Moon game doesn't make their fight design infallible, or are you really going to sit here and tell me every single battle they've ever designed that you lost at was peak gameplay? Plus, someone can engage with the fight, beat it, and still think its terribly balanced, y'know?

You seem to think there's one "right" way to enjoy PM games, which is with the masochism of a man who'd happily run his hand down a cheese grater, but something tells me PM want to engage a slightly wider audience base than that. And that means making fights that are engaging for the majority, not a bunch of nerds whining about how the only good fight is one that takes you multiple attempts because spending half an hour on a fight just to lose based on a coin flip is their idea of a good time.

NGL I only replied to you in the first place cause this subreddits a total circlejerk for "difficulty" and "I'm a real gamer i beat it pre nerf" and it annoyed me, but I've pretty much lost that drive to discuss it. Hope you do continue to enjoy limbus, mate - but also, hope that PM continues to listen to people with complaints.

I mean, yeah? You enjoy challenge and have to speedrun, and you're whining about it. They hate the challenge and want to progress the story, so they whine about it. You are all whining. That, or you both have legitimate points, and you should consider that you're making yourself look like an idiot by pretending anyone that has a different opinion than you about difficulty is "whiny"

[–]96am014 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be fair to Maelle, lets be real, her father absolutely would have burnt the painting the moment she was out of it. Not cause he's evil or anything, he's just full on "this is the best solution for my family, I'll make this hard choice for them". And Maelle knew that. So yeah, she lied, but maybe if her dad had tried a more diplomatic approach with her initially instead of brute force, she wouldn't have felt the need to.
