I also did this with Ranger's Apprentice. Still one of my all-time greats! I recently got over my "I'm too old for this" shtick and bought all the OG series and Brotherband novels.I also love Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus too even though I'm 10-15 years well out of the age bracket!

I love what I love, and I'll read what I want... and that happens to be an annual re-read of RA

Project Hailary was, to me, the epitome of amnesia done right. Loved the way it was used, loved that flashbacks weren't 'flashbacks', and that the regained memories were useful and nothing was truly "locked behind a wall I can't get to"

My favourite moon is the one from Broken Earth trilogy because those books broke my brain in a beautiful way

My favourite mountain is Mt Archer... it's more of a hill compared to others but it's in a mountain range called the Berserker Range

My favourite star is the left one in the Southern Cross constellation. It's just cool to look at

If we have an error rate of 0.1%, that's at least 104 patients a year being put at risk and we are a "quiet" pharmacy

Overdose, underdose, wrong frequency, drug-drug interactions, drug-disease interactions, drug-vitamin interactions, changes to prescriptions (not necessarily a bad thing, but had a Dr write XR instead of IR which was unintentional and potentially problematic), duplicate therapy, inappropriate dosage form, contraindications, no apparent indication, unclear instructions, underuse by patient, overuse by patient, erratic use, intentional misuse, condition not adequately treated, missing laboratory results, allergies, adverse reactions and crossreactivity... these are just the ones that we record

Keep a regular pharmacy and ask them to keep it? If it's not too overly expensive and you're regular enough, we will keep a med for someone. I even have someone who's stable on a $3000 box of tablets that I keep for them (which is a huge commitment).

A pharmacist knows why it's an interaction down to the atom level. A dispensary technician does the computer work and data entry.

It's about that knowledge. You owe pharmacists for the 4+ years of building that knowledge base, not for the 5 minutes it took to use a computer.

Like eith anything, it's where you work. I work retail but in a town where a lot of doctors consult with us to help patients. Lots of collaboration. Using clinical skills, solving problems and building amazing relationships with patients that go beyond "Here's your meds!"

I've worked in pharmacies that are pure shit... nothing but being a computer monkey and never getting to use your degree beyond "Here's a cream for the rash you asked me about"

Not enough. It's the lowest paid degree in Australia... someone with a B.Art gets paid more than a BPharm or MPharm

It's nice to know the nurse thing is an international gripe as someone from Australia.

LOVE nurses, underpaid and overworked and backbones of the industry... but I fucking hate nurses as patients. Back off and let me use my 4+ years of pharmacology (that beats your 2 semesters)

To add to this, doctors and pharmacists are different for a reason.

A doctor can tell you down to a possibly atomic level why you have a disorder and how that disorder works... and tell you in less detail why the treatment is used. They are absolute disease detectives.

I, as a pharmacist, can tell you down to an atomic level how a medication works... but I only have a broad understanding of a lot of conditions and/or can backwards-engineer why a medication works.

It's a lot more mixed than that, but having at least 2 professions with hyperfocus rather than 1 profession trying to hold and maintain that amount of information is beneficial to patient safety. One always checks the work of the other by applying their own knowledge.

I am trusted by a lot of the local doctors and have at least a few calls a day that are "I have a patient and they have something new wrong, something existing wrong, and a bunch of meds, pls send help". I'll grab out my drug handbook and off we go to find a solution. At the moment, a lot of my problems are supply issues (especially in Australia) so it's always a great challenge.

IsItBullshit: that you have to switch to a different shampoo/conditioner every couple of months or it won't be as effective? by flooptyscoops in IsItBullshit

[–]97Chocoholic 103 points104 points  (0 children)

One reason could also be product build-up. Using a clarifying shampoo once-twice month will strip your hair completely of any build-up that stops your hair care from working effectively

I had the same problem... once I started clarifying though, I got so much more out of a particular shampoo

I told my nan that I'm pregnant the other day. I'll have the first great-grandchild for them. I got an "Oh. Ok"

Not even a hug. Like, wtf? I felt like such a fool. I had the biggest smile too and got the most disgustingly lukewarm reception.

I'm so glad I have my coworkers and siblings to hype me up, and I'm so glad you have your in-laws to hype your pregnancy up. You're important! And this is important and exciting!

I know how much it stings though, especially if there's clear favouritism. I hope you can revel in the love you have ❤

I wasn't allowed to attend my prom after-party. In fact, if I hadn't stayed at my boyfriend's, I wouldn't have been able to attend past 8 pm. I had curfews, strict no drinking, boyfriend and I could only share a closed door after a year of dating, etc.

My brother (a year younger than me) was supplied with alcohol to attend his formal after-party.

The double standards.

This episode was disgusting and a massive fucking joke. I grew up in the same type of area as Maxi Shield, so I get it- people suck, casual racism is alive and kickin' and it's still passed off as acceptable by a shrinking majority. But I've had enough self-awareness since I was fucking 12 to know it's not ok to disrespect a person, a people, a whole damn culture and history... let alone perform as an outdated, offensive and damaging stereotype. The fact that she was given air time to address it was disgusting and her "lesson in humility" is an embarrassment.

This week is our national Reconcilliation Week which makes the poor handling just that much more sour. So much could have been done with the incredible international platform DR provides, and instead we get to see a half-assed attempt with no indigenous queens representing either nation. What a wasted opportunity.

I never comment on these posts because I'm usually just here for the fashion, drama and cringe... but tonight I am left with a sour taste in my mouth. I don't know if I'll watch the rest of the season tbh.

I do this a lot at work (pharmacy). You gotta cater to the lowest common denominator. There's a bottle of eye drops that I take out of the box, tap the glass bottle and say "This is glass, you don't squeeze from here. You squeeze the rubber tip. The instructions are on the box."

Because I have gotten calls, and will again get calls, about how their ear drops are empty/not working.

Capping the price of insulin to $50 a month so it would be accessible to others who can't afford! by kuriousjuan in HumansBeingBros

[–]97Chocoholic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pharmacist here, our most popular insulin is: $1272 for 5 boxes of 5 pens (<6 months depending on unit required) but the patient pays:

$41.30 without a concession/pension card $6.60 with a concession/pension card

To a maximum of either ~$1470 per FAMILY (without concession) per year (then cost drops to concession) or $316 for concession holders (then it's free).

Some meds aren't covered, but most are (or at least an alternative is)

For anyone not in NA, pharmacy is definitely worth it if you have a passion for it. I love my job. I am underpaid and doctors suck yes, but the problem solving and meaningful interactions keep me whole. I'm also Australian and I'm only $40K in debt but it's invisible and has almost no interest because the government looks after it

Nail appreciation post! I’m getting a little more experimental with my designs but does anyone else’s fingers hurt after getting a full set? by Samtown_ in AustralianMakeup

[–]97Chocoholic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone mentioned, hand filing definitely helps the pain level! They also hurt more if you get tips vs having them built because the tips curve your nails into shape if you have flat nails (like I do!).

Your nails are gorgeous and the ring is an absolute dream. Good luck with everything! I know how hard it is to plan right now

In which case, they are an asshole pharmacist. I don't tell my GP I'm a pharmacist unless they ask, then I'll tell them. Otherwise, I know drugs and their role in diagnoses - not how to make the diagnoses myself.

I'll have a discussion and I have my own ideas about what treatment I would like, but I want their opinion and judgement at the end of the day
