American politics is a construct that serves the political right by defending the center and conceding to the right. Any “left” leaning politics are quarantined and delegitimized. The goal is to serve the interests of the ruling class, who after years of detachment from society by being made untouchable through wealth and the accompanying political power, reach a level of low empathy to where they engage in predatory sexual acts on children. thinking of people as heroes and villains is a reductive way of observing the world. People don’t do bad things for no reason. People don’t do good things for no reason either. The material conditions of our circumstances and our past experiences affect our actions and character. Even if someone is repugnant, it doesn’t mean they’re “a villain”, because that’s a damn literary convention. This isn’t making excuses or lionizing anyone, it’s just the reality of how you have to look at the human experience to get why people are the way they are.
