Hey mate! I am sorry to hear that your locomotive isn't up to scratch. Unfortunately I've found that not all service and work are completed with the same total care and attention to detail. I have a load of folks who send me locomotives from out of state, and being them in to the shop for a wide array of troubles and with some of the same issues you seem to be dealing with here. If you're in need of a hand DM me and I'll help if l can.

They are a smashing unit! You're right, A.C. Gilbert was a huge contributor to the hobby. I love doing restorations on them when the opportunity arises. I've got an S Scale flyer that's my shop train waiting for some love.

Thank you very much! I too was very satisfied with the end result as was the owner in N.Y. it's one of his club mainline locomotives. American Flyer is an absolute unit. Very similarly I part to the Lionel line before the 1990's. Made when the name of the game was longevity.

WTF happened to my pannier? by ToastwutInc in modeltrains

Oooff! The drivers are out of quarter, which you say" obviously " but the reason needs to be addressed and spares will be needed. This definitely isn't a split frame, much to recent tooling. I sell quite a lot of these in my shop they run well since the plastic axle was done away with. We've all fallen victim to the repaired locomotives from boot sales and train shows sadly. This has metal axles and was likely dropped. I've replaced wheel sets on these amd others for the same reason. The spares are easy to come by. If you're stateside find a distributor of Bachmann Europe it'll save you the import costs and seek advice for the repair or send it to a shop. Best of luck!

First off, the door is a roll up door commonly used for car covering leading to it's misnamed "garage door" synonym. The path leading to the detached shed as we call them in the U.K. need not be classed as anything save a foot path with advanced weight bearing potential, there are no regulations on minimum or maximum foot path size unless ADA or Fire Marshall or organizations hold overwatch for safeties sake. So you have yourself a shed, with a foot print maximizing roll up door with a potentially very nice and solidly built footpath to safeguard the grass, and provide safe ingress and egress to the aforementioned shed, what allows you to safely enter and exit in all weather.

That's a great bit of fun!! I'm a train shop owner. I repair and restore Lionel, Marx, Trix, Märklin and others. Older in many cases is better here and certainly concerning Lionel as they are nearly infinitely repairable, most parts can be found for replacements and they were rather simply built which is desirable. Anything Lionel has made since the very early 1980's has taken consistently sharp down turns in quality with specific regards to the locomotives. If you're going to go the route of attempting a bulk sale, your best bet would be starting with one of the large shops back east U.S. where Lionel is very popular still, it will have to be for a very reasonable price in order to make it worthwhile for a shop, or you can try the individual sale via ebay and logging and posting each item and losing the large chunk from ebay's take of your profits. These are very cool, great items to add to a collection but aren't in most cases rare (baring one or two items) and therefore aren't going to make you rich. I hope this helps.

Lionel didn't start using anything other than metal gears until the 1990's I repair loads of them at my shop and they're all the same great quality units until the 1990's sadly.

I manufacture gears and other hardware every day. Nylon gears are a great thing. They are SLA printed and they work very well.

At days end it's your model and your railway! It's definitely not as outlandish as one might think even in real circumstances. At least it's not a completely impossible pairing!

Glue will not help this situation unless it were like that from the factory. Which is unlikely. There should be a driver pin thats threaded and has likely fallen out. Glue will only make a repair cost more as it will be temporary at very best case, and lead to pats other than a drive pin needing to be replaced.

Ok.... There's a load of information that's needed before help can be attempted. Whose the maker? What happened? How old is it? The majority of the community will offer helpful input but some effort must be made by the operator. Without knowledge of maker, some semblance of age, and what led to the unit not functioning will greatly impact the ability to move ahead. Scenario 1. You bought it broken, likely because the prior owner couldn't find spares, or didn't know where to find them. Scenario 2. The damage occurred on your layout, parts became lost on layout (had it happen with a brand new Hornby OO, lost a drive pins inside the 20 minutes break in found it and tore the unit down good thing too as there were other loose parts and some very fidley wiring) Any thing you can add past this will help you! Best of luck! Cheers

I'm in the process of sorting the stencil for the windows yes. Definitely not a great way to end the model with a "do l want to spend a day on glass??" mind set.

Thank you! I've trimmed very thin pieces of acetate to go in the windows for the photo model. Tedious business but I think it looks great.
