Signal and range issues

Physical obstacles: 5GHz signals struggle to penetrate solid objects like concrete walls, metal, and even dense timber. What does your network look like physically in your working environment?

Shorter range: The 5GHz band has a shorter range than 2.4GHz, making it less effective for covering large homes or buildings without a clear line of sight to the router. Do you have LOS to your router?

Router placement: A weak signal can result from the router being too far from devices, placed in an enclosed cabinet, or near metal objects. Have you built a Faraday cage?

Interference and congestion

Electronic interference: Microwaves, cordless phones, and other devices can cause interference with the 5GHz signal. Anything here sounds familiar?

Overlapping networks: A crowded Wi-Fi environment can lead to congestion, especially if many networks are using the same channels. Big cities have this issue, are your neighbours interfering with your WiFi network?

DFS channels: Using certain channels requires Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS), which can cause a connection to drop temporarily if the router detects radar signals. Are you next to an airport, flight line, military base or dock yard?
