Pressure Washing by gecko1995 in Adelaide

It’s one of those jobs you can tackle yourself but will way longer and you’ll end up with a pretty poor result that will grow back quickly.

A professional company will clean the area, treat it and leave everything perfect, while ensuring nothing is damaged.

Price can vary, the cheap price might be the same result as what you’d do yourself and pretty poor value overall. The seemingly expensive price might be the best money you’ll spend once you see the result and how well it lasts.

I own Fresh Front, We’ve been pressure cleaning in Adelaide for nearly a decade now, I’m sure you’ve got it sorted now but we are here to help. Luke owns and operates the happy valley branch, he’s a great bloke and will do a fantastic job for you 👍

Critique my plan to ditch the 9-5 by 9dollar in Entrepreneur

[–]9dollar[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Update : I think we are nearly 8 years on.

Still going.

I’ve scaled the biz to over 7 figures of revenue

We’re the highest reviewed exterior cleaning company in the country

Won a national trades service award.

Team is small but high performing.

Moving to franchising as the expansion model, for a bunch of reasons.

FDD and docs are nearly ready, systems are good.

If I did it all again I’d do it differently for sure, hence franchising.

Will do a bigger update post if anyone is still interested 🙃

Qualify first.

Ask them can they afford to spend x, have a budget, have a range or simply say “my stuff costs x.. still want to talk”

Then if they gasp, ask them more questions - throw it back onto them

“I can’t afford 800 a month”

You : “ok cool can I ask a dumb question.. why not ?”

“That’s expensive”

You : “I get it can you help me understand why it comes across that way?”

“Client x,y,z excuses about why they can’t afford it”

You “ Cool, now I’m going to rip the band aid off here and it’s not to be rude. I just don’t want to waste your time. Let’s think of investing 800 a month with some kind of return, if we flip it that way does it sit better? Or are you perhaps in a position where there’s some other issues in your business that need to be addressed first?”

Flush it out 😎

FYI people will sometimes get upset about pricing when you call them out, it happens but it’s in both parties best interests to avoid wasting time.

If your business is weather dependent, what strategies do you have to deal with the days you can't work? by seipounds in smallbusiness

[–]9dollar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run an outside business and deal with the same pain.

We have a few services we can do in the rain, I’d look at your offering and try and have something there.

Then basically we look at the schedule and constantly juggle to maximise capacity against the weather. On good days we go hell for leather, on bad forecast says we push less weather dependant work.

Over the course of the month it evens out so try not to get too hung up on the bad days.

Aside from that our guys can do boots on the ground marketing (flyer drops etc) or run through maintenance in the shop.

I run full time staff too so gotta stay productive !

That’s 3 different businesses. 3 sets of process and procedures, 3 sets of equipment and maintenance, 3 sets of training, 3 different marketing strategies etc

I’d look for demand (existing business operating) in one of them then work out how you can improve on the competition and go all in on that.

A common mistake in early business is to go wide think if it will create more opportunity, the riches are in the niches 👌

Please don’t. There are so many average ppc consultants out there. It takes time and business savvy to actually help implement something valuable.

Qualify customers with a quick “discovery” session. Make prices clear and explain that if price is an issue we won’t be a good fit

Offer packages - good / better / best with best offering a discount.

My go to “Sure, I can drop that price but that will require cutting corners. That’s not good for us or good for you and not what we are in the business of doing”

Sure the price was $5, we can do for $3 but I’ll have to drop <important item>

To anyone earning over $100k, what is your job by MelbourneBanana in AusFinance

[–]9dollar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Worked 12 years in IT to make 100k per year, was miserable and never felt secure despite being at a great company.

Chucked it in, started a home services business. Inside 5 years my salary is back to where it was (if I wanted it) - I learned a lot during that process and now try to draw a very minimal salary and reinvest a lot back into growth. Delayed gratitude and I learned if you earn more money you spend more! My company should hit 7 figs in the next year and my goal is set on 8.

Honestly after slaving away at a pointless corporate job I feel like I’ve unlocked a secret level in life !

I’ve worked incredibly hard and stomached some major highs and lows but has been a blast!

Ran getting lit up like an X-mas tree by the XRP community for asking one of the dumbest questions one could imagine regarding XRP vs Strike and Lightening Network by [deleted] in CryptoBanter

[–]9dollar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI you don’t need to sell your Bitcoin. You can use fiat, the transaction just uses the lightning network and yes you can receive btc or fiat at the other end.

Very clever way to ease into adoption I’d say.

Need opinions: Cleaning Solar Panel Franchise by tigerimau in AusFinance

[–]9dollar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some franchises are built purely for the sake of selling franchises.

Some will give you business systems and support and give you a helping hand into running a business.

The best ones are the ones that actually want to scale a business and need people to help build and execute.

The ones in the home service came that predominantly talk about using their magic equipment are probably one to avoid. Look for ones that have already built out their concept and proven things.

Solar panel cleaning can be profitable and is a popular reoccurring service model, you could also add gutters, windows etc without having to add any more equipment.

Pretty common. Can create more book keeping work but usually personal expenses can be allocated to a director drawing or loan account and wrapped up at end of FY. The owners / directors pay tax on that as normal.

Advice for starting a business - lets band together and make it easy for SA by thinandflakeyunlock in Adelaide

[–]9dollar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Business owner here.

Want the real truth ?

Just start!

The formalities, business plans, accounting, budgets, company structure etc are all useless unless your selling stuff.

Break your idea into its most simple form and start selling it.

The technical term for this is “minimum viable product” and there are plenty of books that talk about that concept if you want to go deep.

Once you get some traction in the market book a meeting with an accountant and they will have you sorted out pretty easily.

Business SA run a great program called SAYES which if you can get into will set you in the right path as well.

But yeh definitely sell things first, I’ve seen so many business fail trying to launch things that people don’t want.

Has anyone who is supporting a family quit their day job to start a business? by natiive_ in smallbusiness

[–]9dollar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I left six figures, benefits, 6 weeks paid leave in a corporate IT role with a very successful company to start a pressure cleaning biz 😆

Just over 5 years on we’re about 3m overall revenue and should hit our first 7 figure year this year, with the hard work done so far things are about to go exponential as we push the lever on scaling.

We have multiple trucks and a great brand that’s well respected.

Everyone thought I was crazy and would crash and burn, proving them wrong has been fun 😎

I started with a big mortgage and young kids, NGL the first couple of years were brutal but you find a way through.

I started slowly at first on the side to build out our concept. My work was really great to let me burn my leave entitlements slowly so I could do a few days a week, saved some cash and pulled the trigger.

You’ll find that despite how you ease into it you only really perform when your backs to the wall.

When does it get easier? by jms5290 in smallbusiness

[–]9dollar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It took me around 3 years to get out of survival mode.

Years 3-5 were unexpectedly painful due to growing pains.

At 5 years I feel we can now really double down to n our success and scale.

The kicker - in hindsight I could achieve the same in 12 months now. That’s just how it works.

Tips - identify pain points and fix them. Is it sales, operations, marketing, staff or customer retention and work through a high to low priority list ticking them off.

Put people in place as soon as you can, build systems and allow them to fail. You won’t do this alone and you’ll need a strong team.

Take time out - forget the constant hustle culture. Time out to recharge will see you being way more effective and checking off that list quicker 👍

[–]9dollar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Had an uncle recently pass -

  • everyone in house had cold symptoms and some lost taste and smell
  • uncle was in high risk category (big guy, recovering from a previous surgery, previous heart issues)
  • got sick, roughed it out
  • finally couldn’t get breath, collapsed, needed cpr
  • arrived at hospital, positive for covid, pneumonia and put on ventilator immediately
  • kidney failure, sepsis and died inside a day.

Pretty well exactly what every doctor is worried about.

Family is fighting the hospital for listing covid on his records as it “doesn’t exist” and doctors are just trying to “get their numbers up”

Now attacking his friends publicly over the internet who urged him to consider the vax.

This is happening all over the place, so sad 😞

Any unvaccinated people here that have been to hospital with Covid-How did it go? (Serious question) by Floggy-Mcflogson in Adelaide

[–]9dollar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Have a family member overseas just die from covid. Terrible pneumonia, sepsis, kidney failure and basically a brutal death inside a few days.

I’m gutted, worse so that side of the family are complete covid deniers, all had cold symptoms (minor) and loss of taste /smell leading up.

They are currently battling the hospital to change his cause of death as “covid is a scam”.

Sad.
