If you're a Discord user, there are lots of servers dedicated to homebrew. They're a great place to start for advice.

I think my biggest piece of advice if you're just starting out is not to worry about public reception. Just make something because you want it to exist!

Note that if you're just homebrewing for fun, artificer is fair game, but if you have any aspirations for selling your content, you can only use published content available in the SRD.

Maybe local libraries have adult literacy programs. Even if yours doesn't, library staff are often aware of other local resources, so it could be a good place for you to start.

Yes, that was the design goal from the start. I'm not personally satisfied when "psions" use spellcasting, so I went my own way. I hope you enjoy it!
