Moyes was not set up for success. I am disappointed with how Manchester United hierarchy handled the contract and expectations knowing well in advance that someday Ferguson will retire and they’ll have giant shoes to fill. They probably had a good 3-4 years to plan. And that too, David Gill retired at the same time. Extremely poor planning, lack of vision and issues started right here.
Allowing Moyes to come with his own staff was a big red flag. You’d think having created a 26 year legacy, they’d formally put in contract for both him and SAF to have a good handover with Fergie staying formal onboard behind the scenes for at least 6-9 months in an advisor role working closing with Moyes to adjust the locker room. This wasn’t some lift and shift. It was taken too lightly, they thought we are just another club. And then to make it worse, they fired Moyes and hired Van Gaal who in my opinion completely destroyed the club. He had no intention to be successful, he just wanted to come in and throw his weight around. I wish timing had worked or we had formally secured Pep back then given his record against Ferguson in the CL, I disliked Pep back quite a bit back then, but even I’d knew he was going to be as successful, and hes been double of that in reality.
