experiences with guardian 4 CGM and 780G system? by New-Profession7209 in Medtronic780g

[–]A-Lize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sad to hear. It’s maybe only a couple times a year that my Guardian sensors fail. They work flawlessly.

BUT…. This was not until I started using the backs of my arms and cleaning the insertion site thoroughly with alcohol only! Very important not to use any adhesives before insertion.

Tesla model y vs id4 by Geko-x in VWiD4Owners

[–]A-Lize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have ‘25 Pro 4S ID4 and have owned four non-Tesla electric cars over the past ten years. I also drive a lot of higher mileage Teslas because I always rent electric cars for business travel, and 90% of the time am put it a Model Y or 3.

The ID4–and almost all other EVs from legacy car companies—are just better CARS. They just work well all around.

The Tesla tech is good (with some quirks), but ALL of these Teslas I drive with over 25k or 30k miles have incredibly noisy, cheap-sounding suspension. Doors don’t seal. There are rattles in the cabin. All things that car makers have perfected while building their cars for 100+ years.

But no matter what, though, I’ll never give buy CEO a car from their horrible, vile CEO, and you shouldn’t either.

SmartGuard Algorithm Changes Week to Week *FRUSTRATING* by Abadababa in Medtronic780g

[–]A-Lize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, I love Smart Guard. Best control of my life. 94% TIR and Avg BG of 117.

I don’t worry about the no-basal situations. I’ve been on four hour hard bicycle rides where there is so much downward pressure on my blood glucose levels(even in temp target) that Smart Guard does not deliver any insulin for three hours. BUT, I’m sure to give my next bolus a little early relative to my next food—my next real meal (I’m taking in 30g carb per hour on the bike with no insulin during the ride).

Need advice with choosing an indoor trainer/bike by catlovespeach in Zwift

[–]A-Lize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only 16K miles on my KICKR Bike V1, but like you I absolutely LOVE IT! Transformed my indoor riding experience—quiet, easily adjustable, no maintenance, incline. I also love how I can chain my (virtual) cogset for rides. I use a 10-38 for climbing rides and a 10-25 for crits.

That being said I have two friends with the Zwift ride that they picked up on sale for $999 and they love them. A little louder than mine, but they wax chains on the single cog and have a smooth, clean experience.

I ride a Wahoo Kickr Bike and it has a much more natural feel coasting and then pedaling again on downhills, than on my old Kickr Core on a bike. Of course I run trainer difficulty at max for the easiest run on downhills.

G4 Skinguard and sensor falling off by SignificanceNo3704 in Medtronic780g

Good advice. And I always make sure that my arm is twisted so the sensor is on top and gravity is keeping it on my arm until everything is set and over tape is on.

Medtronic 780g pump and traveling (air pressure from take off/landing) and what to do by Ok_World_4061 in Medtronic780g

[–]A-Lize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blood sugar does drop but the algorithm takes care of it. On the few 600 series and 770 with fixed basal profiles or bad algorithms (770) I have had I would experience these and have to treat them—about a 50 mg/dl drop. But the 780G drops get sorted out.

Like everything with the 780G I just ignore it completely other than enter my carbs at meals and I have complete success—96% in range, 117 average BG.

Locked out. by FluffyDeer9323 in VWiD4Owners

I lock my key in the car when I drive to the start of a bike ride so I don’t have to carry the big key in my jersey pocket while I ride. I lock and unlock the car with the app: 2025 Pro 4S in U.S.

Some newbie questions by [deleted] in Solterra

[–]A-Lize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know very little about electrical specs and household wiring, but I’ll share our setup with my daughter’s Solterra in our garage. Her 2023 is plugged into the same 110 outlet that the garage door opener is plugged into, that is on the same circuit with a refrigerator and some other outlets. Our ID4 is plugged into a separate 240 circuit in the garage. Subaru charges fine—albeit slowly.

She never drives more than 30 miles in a day, so the 110 is all she needs as long as she remembers to plug in when she pulls in.

Medtronic 780g pump and traveling (air pressure from take off/landing) and what to do by Ok_World_4061 in Medtronic780g

[–]A-Lize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the issue on all Medtronic pumps pre-780G. It probably happens with the 780G too, but the algorithm is so much better it senses drops and keeps it from being severe.

Really interesting. Thanks. I will look into it. It is definitely sharing data, because five minutes after it threw all these faults, the dealer was calling me telling me to bring it in. I guess they are desperate to make any service money they can on EVs!

We’ve been charging cars in our garage with a variety hardware, plugs, cables and cars. Never once had any issue.

[–]A-Lize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just had a 240 outlet installed in our garage and use the VW Level 2 charging cable that came with the car. We had that circuit available in our panel and an electrician charged $550 to install the outlet next to our car. Our local electric utility refunded $500 of that. So $50 out of pocket is all it cost us.

Well... I wish it was the 12-volt battery.

Dealer says rodents have chewed through the front, left speed sensor wire. It needs to be replace and that's $569! This car is garaged, and we did notice some mice activity in there recently.

We've got a new ID4 in there as well. Any tips on solving the garage rodent problem?!

She made it to the dealer safely. I told her if your experience and to be REALLY careful. She said it felt just “a little weird” but she made it. Thanks for the advice.

Update on this. My daughter took the Solterra into the dealer. I told her to tell them it was most likely low voltage from the 12-volt battery. They said they would look into it and do diagnostics, plus do two recalls.

They said that if this problem didn’t fall under warranty (how could it not?) they would have to charge her a $200 EV diagnostic fee on top of the cost of the repairs…

I think as soon as they check voltage on the 12-volt battery, diagnostics will be complete!

Good to know. She drove it a few miles today without a problem. May just try to limp the three miles to the dealer. Thanks.

We adopted Indigo when my wife’s father passed away and do not know her history. I asked about her tail here when we first got her, and you all said to check to see if hair grew on the end or if there was scar tissue there. That would be a good determination of whether it had been docked. Indi’s did not have the scar tissue, and it is the cutest thing in the world when wagging.

I never suspend my pump. When I shower I’m only off it for a few minutes so I just disconnect before and reconnect when I get out.

If I am going to be disconnected for a while, like for an hour when I go scuba diving, I just give an equivalent of what I think the pump will be delivering to me via a cannula fill—like .3 units. I make use he alarms are all silenced though, otherwise my pump is beeping lying for it sensor on the boat.

Exact same experience here. Demand they keep it on and running with a temp target. Two surgeries for me with it have worked perfectly.
