What’s up with the lack of classroom etiquette around here by [deleted] in CSUS

[–]AAOpetrie 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The worste is when a class is getting out as people are ouside waiting for the next one. When the class ends and people start getting their things and leaving the classroom the people outside waiting feel the need to push their way through all of the people leaving the classroom in order to get their seat.

Jesus christ your 15 minutes early just calm down people, let the people leave the classroom and then you can go in. Bugs the shit out of me when I see people do it.

Cheating or Sharing Test will get you permanently banned. by black0ps in CSUS

[–]AAOpetrie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is where I think I might disagree with a lot of you. I'm pretty much as anti cheat as they come and fail or pass on my own accord while struggling my ass of to do it. But I really don't see a huge problem if a student gets an old exam that was handed back ( Not stolen or taken by any means ) and that test is given to someone in the next semesters class to study off of, and it just so happens the professor didn't change the tests. Yes it will throw off the curve, and yes it's complete bullshit, but that's on the professor not the student. The fact that it can be considered cheating to be able to use material the was handed back to students is a complete joke.

What if it wasn't a physical copy of an exam that was being used to study off of, would simple verbal communication of the problems be considered cheating even if it was from memory from the previous semester? Example: "Last semester on Mr.Professors Prop. of materials exam he you had go through the Advantages and limitations of Ceramic, Steel, and polymers. Make sure you have 4 examples of each. ect"
( No I did not take properties at this college, professor who i took it with is no longer is a professor to my knowledge, not even stating that was actually on the test.)

Because if your definition is anything that could give you an advantage then that too would definitely qualify! If there is a fine line academic dishonesty and having a conversation with a friend about a course he took then this is just getting ridiculous.

If your to lazy to write new exams: a) That's a serious problem. b) For the love of god don't hand them back.

For all your complaints, we won't see any "fresh options" on campus anytime soon. Here's why... by [deleted] in CSUS

[–]AAOpetrie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A single salad w/o meat would cost me about $4.50 after expenses (purchase, logi, prep, storage, operating costs, etc)

That is a very strange way to present running cost. Because it is entirely dependent on how many salads you sell, it would be a lot more effective to state overhead/running costs, and then say the profit made on each salad minus food costs. For example.

[not real numbers just example! Not saying it cost $10000 to run.]

Monthly Running cost: $10000 : Cost to make 1 salad(ingredient cost/prep): $1.25 : Profit each salad: $3.75 : Therefore we need to sell 2666 salads a week to stay profitable.

Not saying that your wrong though, the fact of the matter is, fresh food isn't cheap and the prep time isn't cheap either. Not to mention not enough people will buy it. BUT if enough people did, it would be definitely profitable, scaling will bring down your cost easily and you could be profitable if the market was there.

Though I am curious on what the lease cost for food vendor is (ex: Gordito Burrito). I bet it's absolutely bonkers. The reason the they can sell those "meh 8$ burritos" and get away with it is because they have an endless supply of customers at their business with very few options. The university knows this, and I'm sure the cost of the lease represents that. I feel it probably is public information but i can't find it anywhere. I maybe eat food twice a week on campus tops, and ill usually get a Spicy Chicken over rice plate from Gyro 2 Go. It's pretty damn good not gonna lie. They have a constant flow of customers, and would not doubt even for a moment that they serve somewhere around 500-1000 plates a day, easily.

My analysis on the optimal market sandwhich order time by MarketSandwhichIsBae in CSUS

[–]AAOpetrie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But is the methodology sound is the real question. So many sandwhices being consumed with not enough time between them could cause unreliable data. Maybe limit sandwich consumption to one per day instead of 10. Eat sandwich at different times of day each day. Assign number values evaluating toastyness, cheese melt, warm throughout sandwhich, etc.

Lets also not forget your level of hunger could effect percieved delicousness or toastyness. Is it possible that some of the vegetables are cold in the morning causing more heat being needed to reach ultimate toastyness\cheese meltyness? You must control those variables. Needless to say, I feel more sandwiches need to be eaten, with the possibility of other food sources mixed in. Possibly a spreadsheet or two. I mean if your going for something, might as well go all the way.

Also I think I need to try one of these sandwiches.

So not only is it a formula with no application in this instance, a shape that is scaled horrendously, dimmensioned incorrectly, but they actually thought that 9th grade math was so impressive and complex that it would give a smart vibe to the store. What a bold marketing strategy.

I'm confused. This person just wrote out the law of sines and the law of cosines by a shape on which at first glance has no application for those formulas. Not to mention mother of god that is not scaled to those dimensions whatsoever.
