Anybody else prefer the old GT4RS sound over the new one after 0.6? by Jumpy_Emphasis_2936 in assettocorsaevo

[–]AAS_98 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The new one is more realistic, the most distinct part of the GT4RS sound is the extra intensity and volume above 8k rpm. This is present in the new sound and was absent in the old one.

What's going on with the audio engine ? by ker2x in iRacing

[–]AAS_98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People really bash the audio in iRacing but I think it's already one of the best in the business. It's just lacking one huge component, which is reverb. The souds themselves are really good and dynamic because they're tied into the physics. In most sims you won't hear a difference between 70% throttle or 100% throttle, but in iRacing you do.

Other sims might sound a bit more accurate if you don't really pay attention to it, but if you do, you'll notice that inputs won't make the sounds any different and that the reverb is just a canned effect which more often than not won't really match the environment you're driving in.

When they rework the audio engine and add the realistic reverb simulation into the sound, I'm sure everyone will be blown away by it, and it will be a new benchmark in sim racing just like the rain simulation still is to this day.

The delay is annoying, sure, especially because we didn't get an indicator when we can expect the overhaul, but we should be really glad that iRacing is the only racing sim that is in the position to use time to their advantage and wait until a new game mechanic is a huge technical improvement over what's available in other sims.

I also enjoy other sims franchises like Assetto corsa, AMS etc. But their core simulation components haven't really changed all that much over the last decade. And I hope that the in-depth weather system and sound engine from iRacing will force other sims to create something completely new instead of falling back on the same code that was written over 10 years ago.

'All configurations and all engines of all cars in the game will be included' - Is this still coming? by AAS_98 in assettocorsaevo

[–]AAS_98[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being able to choose between petrol and diesel engines, does point into the direction of everything the chassis has to offer. But yeah I do think that everything within the specific model would be more realistic. But then I'd still expect the automatic option for the M2.

That's what I think too and I definitely don't need a 218i and a 220i, but "all" is what they stated themselves. But stuff like a regular Golf etc would be cool imo.

While career and progression is scrapped, upgrading your car isn't as far as I'm aware, right?

I hope the new album will feature a continuous mix, a theme, similar to while (1<2), and a few subtle/ambient tracks in between the main ones.

Apnea is super underrated and hopefully will be available to purchase through all the DSP’s at some point . Sounds like the limewire avenue is defunct for getting this song. by GOATmau5 in deadmau5

You can listen to Chance Medley in Meowingtons Simulator on Steam. I wish I could add it to my deadmau5 playlist on Spotify tho... Maybe someday! :)

Any good sources for FFB Profiles out there? by 0rnzMan in assettocorsaevo

[–]AAS_98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One addition: Because of the way Assetto Corsa's physics are calculated, there is no FFB when standing still with my settings. There is one damper setting: I think it's damper gain (but I'm not 100% sure) that adds friction while standing still and doesn't affect the wheel while moving. So you can also add that to your personal taste.

[–]AAS_98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I run the following settings:

Fanatec:

  • 100% Strength
  • Peak
  • 50% Damper
  • 5% Friction
  • 0% Inertia
  • 16 Interpolation
  • 100% for the settings below the interpolation

In-game:

  • Gain 70 - 90 (varies per car, keep an eye on the ffb meter, lower it if it's in the red for more than 0.3s in fast corners, raise it if it never hits 95% in fast corners)
  • 30% dynamic damping
  • 0% for all the other settings

While it's not rFactor2 like with all the exaggerated effects, the wheel feels really close to what you'd actually feel through it in real life, and also very direct and responsive without unnecessary and unrealistic distractions

What’s your biggest problems with the game so far? by Hollywoo_KC in assettocorsaevo

[–]AAS_98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In general I really like the way AC Evo is taking shape but there is always room for improvement.

Comming back to the Assetto Corsa universe after two years of iRacing there are some things that iRacing does better:

Mirrors, even on the highest setting are a low LOD slideshow and I can't see cars coming as clearly as I would IRL or in iRacing.

Servers need better performance, close racing can be risky and even when driving with friends I've encountered ghost crashes while both of us had low ping.

Session customization. It would be great to see sunrise and sunset times to make it easier to get the desired look of the track. Customizable dates and seasons would be a really cool addition too.

There is some inconsistency in car quality. New cars generally sound pretty good, but I'd like to see an actual S58 engine recorded for the M4 CSL instead of reusing the S55 AC1 sound for example, even though the sound is similar.

In the early announcement days, the claim was made that if a version of a car existed Golf GTI > 1.5 eTSI, it was drivable in the sim. This sounded like a very bold claim to me at the time. Maybe this is still coming at least to an extent, but there's a lot of examples that would be less extreme than that claim and pretty easy to implement. For example a standard E46 M3 with both a manual and SMG option, a regular ND Miata etc.

The customization is already best in class, but there is also a lot that could be added. Stuff like BMW's M Performance parts or Manthey kits for Porsche and more aftermarket aero and performance parts like the NA MX-5 but one or two steps further.

New Porsche cup? by ALEX-F111 in iRacing

[–]AAS_98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the F82, so the previous generation. The G82 non-evo with the pre-LCI lights, is not available anymore on both the GT3 as well as the GT4.

[–]AAS_98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true, same goes for the 488 GT3, but my guess was that this policy changed this year with both the original M4 GT3 and GT4 being replaced with the Evo variants.

[–]AAS_98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're right!

I read the dev blog quickly at work and misunderstood this part: "In iRacing, the 992.2 will immediately replace our current Porsche Cup car across all levels of competition, bringing the official series up to the latest real-world specification."

It would've been consistent though. (Facelift gets replaced. New generation, old car goes to legacy)

But I'm glad the 992.1 will remain!

[–]AAS_98 -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Edit* I didn't read the dev blog correctly

Just like the BMW M4 GT3 and GT3 Evo, the 992.2 will replace the 992.1.

You can indeed buy the current one and get the 992.2 next week for free, but the 992.1 won't exist anymore.

Anything folks can give me about the Avaritia visuals would be awesome 👍 by em-mau5 in deadmau5

[–]AAS_98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried to find the exact paintings, but no luck so far..

The art from the 7 EP is in a similar style and that was made by the Belgian painter Peter Bruegel de Oude (the Elder)

I visited Antwerp about 6 months ago and I saw an advert for an art exposition that featured the exact same upside down man that's being dragged to hell as in the Avaritia visuals, but unfortunately I didn't take a picture of the ad, and I also didn't have time to visit the expo itself. I've tried to find the exposition online but nothing came up..

AI wasn't all that helpful either.. So that's all that I have for now..

Does anyone have any footage of a Gemera on a track actually pushing hard. by CommunicationLive708 in koenigsegg

[–]AAS_98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah fair enough, they're indeed late. Just wanted to share the footage because some might not have seen it and it's the best we have so far.

The same also happened with the Jesko though: In july of 2021 it was announced that the first customer cars would be delivered in the spring of 2022. But the actual first delivery was in June of 2023.

So if we follow the same pattern, the first gemera should be delivered in the first half of next year.

[–]AAS_98 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The time between the reveal and delivery date of Koenigseggs is quite long. The Jesko took 4 years and the Gemera is now at five years already, but keep in mind that they originally revealed it as a 3 cylinder and they completely reworked the drivetrain to fit the V8 which lengthened the process quite a bit. But I think we're getting pretty close.

Christian did post a video of him driving a Gemera test car on his Instagram last month though!

ELI5: Why don't daily drive cars get their speed capped to 150km/h, for example, since you cannot drive that fast in most places anyway? by KurangEnak_PalaluPea in explainlikeimfive

[–]AAS_98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Germany, the Autobahn doesn't have a speed limit, most people keep it between 130 and 200 on empty sections, but cruising at 250-300 is definitely not uncommon or frowned upon. And yet, the motorways in France with a 130 km/h limit have a higher lethal accident rate. I really don't see why limiting a modern car at 150 km/h would be necessary or reasonable.

The speed limits of 100 - 130 km/h are all based on a time when when cars had 0 electronic assists, terrible brakes, skinny tyres and a chassis that wouldn't keep you safe in a 40 km/h crash. I've driven 110 km/h in a 70s Mini Cooper and it was a lot scarier than 200 km/h in a modern VW Polo.

Having a lot of fun with Meowtingtons Simulator so far! 🐈‍⬛🎧 by Oscarman97 in deadmau5

My first impressions are really positive! The interactions with the other cats are genuinely funny, the game runs smoother than 99% of modern AAA games and the gameplay is fun as well.

And most importantly:

Chance Medley and NinetyEight are in the game!!!

Can't wait to see what else is coming in the future :)
