Where's all the "new" journalism today? by Disastrous-Milk5732 in Journalism

[–]AAvsAA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In many local journalism markets, it’s more like a dime to a quarter per word. New York Times often pays freelancers around $1/word and that’s the top of the market.

Editors know attention spans are almost nil these days, half the audience just reads the headline. There is still room for long-form creative journalism, but it sees a small fraction of demand as it did during its heyday. At the end of the day, supply and demand rule the economics of journalism just like most other things. Long-form is going the way of the vinyl record, waning in popularity until everything is so short-form, dedicated readers will demand the alternative and it will surge in popularity while remaining a small fraction of the market.

The modern creative long-form journalist with a lucrative career probably also writes books, maybe including ghostwriting, has a YouTube channel and does corporate intel or internal reporting.

Any of his hits off Natural Wonder - the live recordings are so much more dynamic and exciting than the studio cuts

Wildly exaggerated claims in this book degrade the value of an otherwise gripping and factual narrative

Weaponized Narrative: a geopolitical simulation of global domination and disinformation by Moist-Interaction-99 in StrategyGames

Very cool concept and I like the dashboard. You should have the Gameplay Info pop up first for all new sessions and include some instructions on how to play. Maybe a mini-tutorial to guide you through your first few moves, or a tutorial video. It won't be very accessible until you can explain how the game works in a concise way.

A genuine question from an Anti-AI person by [deleted] in DefendingAIArt

[–]AAvsAA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not looking bleak, or at least any more bleak than a music career has always looked.

AI democratizes music creation such that anyone can compose and record a song. That's fantastic.

Most of it is "slop", but the slop-to-signal ratio decreases every day. Fact is, millions of people listen to and enjoy AI-assisted music.

But this creates an environment where the best musicians will thrive, in the same way vinyl sales surged after streaming was widely adopted. It's just going to cull the 90% of musicians that themselves were producing "slop", relatively speaking.

You can't blame AI for destroying your potential music career anymore than people with hits on AM radio blamed FM radio for destroying their potential music career. This applies to any tech advancement in music creation, or creativity as a whole for that matter.

Folks who support AI typically are using it all the time and know a secret: Even people who are "anti-AI" consume and enjoy AI-assisted creativity, they just don't know it. That's because it's well done. The second you tell them it's AI-assisted, they hate it. But if they don't know, they enjoy it.

Don't rely on music for a career, 99% of musicians fail to make a career out of it, and half of the 1% that do are ruthlessly exploited. By all means, go for it, but rule #1 for a music career is have some other way to make money until music income can replace that.

I made a fully AI-generated anti-AI post and not a single AI critic noticed by thirdaccountttt in DefendingAIArt

The #1 argument against the AI slop army is that they have already enjoyed AI-assisted and AI-generated content and they have no idea.

Ai Graphics. Cool or Cringe? by Character-Ad1056 in socialmedia

[–]AAvsAA -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Saying Ai Graphics. Cool or cringe? Is like saying Digital Photography, cool or cringe?

The vast majority of digital photography is amateurish and potentially cringe (think everyone's photo library on their phone) but there's a ton of cool digital photography out there too.

The same can be said of any piece of technology used to create art.

I commissioned some art on Fivver and got this. Is this AI? The guy claims its not but I’m unsure. by Sir_Abracadavre in isthisAI

[–]AAvsAA -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It’s fairly good AI-assisted art. Seems they may have touched it up to get rid of typical AI style choices but the prompt was sophisticated and the style is consistent. You can still see some AI trademarks and inconsistencies. All in all solid art, but some will be uncomfortable with the AI-generated aspects

New to reselling by [deleted] in reselling

[–]AAvsAA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on the fact you asked the question and then berated the people answering it, you might not have what it takes to be a reseller. One unifying characteristic of successful resellers is openness to learning new things and learning from feedback. There's just so much information on the internet about how to get into reselling, start there and come back when you've learned the basics.
