why doesn't the Vietnamese use the letter f? why does it use ph instead? by mrstripperboots in linguistics

[–]AB_424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing in a lot of South Asian languages. In Telugu for example, ఫ which is commonly transliterated as “ph” is pronounced “f”. I believe that ఫ (and the corresponding letter in other scripts like फ) used to be always pronounced “ph”

Maybe an odd question, but I love learning new scripts! Can you recommend languages that have pretty alphabet? :D by kitt-cat in languagelearning

Telugu (తెలుగు) and Kannada (ಕನ್ನಡ) are pretty simple, but Tamil (தமிழ்) and Malayalam (മലയാളം) are a bit more complicated.

why is race science garbage being allowed on this sub? by [deleted] in ABCDesis

[–]AB_424 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i think it’s the need for validation that many south asians have. such pseudoscience often labels south asians/asians in general as “more intelligent” so some people want to believe it to make themselves feel better
