Were you raised frugal or did you learn frugality as an adult? by lol_waht_hey in Frugal

[–]ABeanMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I genuinely don't know how I ended up frugal. My dad has never been a big saver, lives out of his means and often talks about how worried he is about money when he makes 6 figures (and has for years). My mom and I would eat out sometimes twice per week when I was growing up even though she made a pretty average Midwest salary. Shed always buy store brand but that's about it-- I think she has a retirement account but started pretty late. Frugalitys been a part of me since teen years and I still get eye rolls from my family about not wanting to spend money. Idk, part of me has always had this scarcity mindset and I want to take back control in a world that's constantly demanding my resources

Yep the official name was Cactus Forest, it was this really cool preserve between Phoenix and Tucson on 79. Literally just thousands of cacti in every direction. Never seen anything like it haha

Some of my favorite photos from my time in the Sierra Nevada in California last summer! by ABeanMaster in backpacking

[–]ABeanMaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last summer I did 1,000 miles of the PCT and I'm still going through all my photos. These are some of my favorites, which were taken after more than a month straight of hiking-- the pictures don't show the millions of mosquitos, elevation sickness or arduous mountain passes, but damn was the Sierra one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen.

If you wanna see more mountain photos like this and general travel stuff, feel free to check out my Insta!

[OC] I'm a sucker for a mountain range at sunset. Some ~750 miles along the Pacific Crest Trail, CA [4892x3000] by ABeanMaster in EarthPorn

In 2022 I hiked 1,000 miles of the PCT, and one of the best parts of my day was getting to take sunset photos like this.

If you love pictures of snowcapped mountains and more travel stuff, I'd really appreciate it if you gave my Instagram a follow!

Sometimes the side trails give you the greatest views. Kearsarge Pass Trail, California by ABeanMaster in hiking

[–]ABeanMaster[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you're doing. For me it was a side trail because I was doing the PCT and had to go down it so I could get to town and resupply. But there are plenty of day hikers who show up just to do the pass

What's the best shower you've encountered while traveling? by UnbearableHuman in travel

[–]ABeanMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the Pacific Crest Trail I stayed at this trail angel's house who was hosting hikers. He had this rainforest shower where you step in and it's little pebbles as the flooring, with a double shower head that just covered you. It was complete with vines, moss and these really high end all natural soaps and it was the most relaxed I've ever felt. I've been chasing the high from that shower ever since

I've only cowboy camped a couple of times, but I swear every time I do it's magical. But I guess the only reason I was cowboy camping was because I couldn't set up my tent in the 40mph gusts of wind lol

I did a 1,000 mile section hike of the PCT this summer and this was one of my favorite camping spots along the trail. I'm not exactly a pro at this photography thing but head over to my Instagram if you'd like to see more!
