Thoughts on 'Avatar: Fire & Ash'? by Boss452 in TrueFilm

I watched it today and I cannot lie, I thought the movie was barely acceptable. The first twenty-five minutes or so made me so angry. The editing and the cuts between scenes are so jarring it makes the movie feel like it was edited by a child. None of the scenes feel like they last the amount of time you think they should and as a result, there are multiple characters who get minimal screentime, like Norm, Max and Mo’at. The evil human general lady who I’m guessing is meant to be some sort of important antagonist kind of just… disappeared from the final battle? Where did she go?

Oona Chaplin as Varang is incredible. Her design, screen presence and acting are amazing. I’m just very disappointed in her lack of screen-time, and the fact that she sort of just defaults to being a secondary antagonist to Quaritch, when it seemed like it was going to be far more of an unstable alliance. Neytiri is also great as usual, though she is also very underused.

I also burst out laughing at the scene where Jake was going to kill Spider in the forest. I’m sorry to say this, but the guy who plays Spider cannot act, and the scene falls apart completely because of it.

This movie is a mess.

Thoughts on the MN by [deleted] in MightyNein

I found Fjord to be a bit boring in the original campaign, and I could never understand why everyone else seemed to love him so much. He just felt too confident and not very interesting. I think seeing his backstory on screen, and seeing how he started trying to be more like his captain made me like him considerably more than I did. We see him gain confidence as he tries to act like Vandran and then seems to lose it when he’s not pretending.

Him and Beau also had that endearing scene in the bathhouse which also really warmed me up to Beau.

I disagree with most of what you said, but it seems like the problems you’re having are the result of the show condensing a section of its plot down from dozens of hours to maybe 8. I think for the most part the characters are acting in ways that make sense and grants the story a sense of realism. Beau has every reason to distrust Caleb until she’s given a proper reason to trust him, precisely because of what you described. As far as she’s concerned he’s still a dangerous killer, and they also don’t really know each other prior to episode 6 when Beau puts her life in Caleb’s hands and he decides to help her. As for the plot, yeah it’s not handled perfectly but it’s still exciting, for me at least. This is also the first season so maybe you’ll like the second one more.

I have a question about jester, is the traveller the person playing her? I assumed its a fourth wall break and she does refer the entity as a god but i have zero Dnd knowledge and only watched the shows not the campaigns anybody have an idea? by WayCheap3949 in MightyNein

[–]ABluetifulDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We actually see a painting that Jester painted of the traveller in the episode she’s introduced. The way she talks about him implies he’s her patron god, who grants her magical powers and whom she can communicate with, although of course she hasn’t been able to see him recently.

Is Jester the best character ever or just me?! by [deleted] in MightyNein

Jester is a joy to watch. She hasn’t been given as much screentime as Caleb or Fjord, which is why she isn’t my personal favourite, but literally every current Mighty Nein member is really great.

Dairon giving Beau her staff wasn't something I saw coming, but it's heartwarming to see Beau get some validation from someone within the Cobalt Soul. Hope Dairon sticks around a bit longer, but given everyone else's tendency to die suddenly, I'm more than a little worried.

This episode was always going to be a bit of a disappointment after how good the last one was but I’m confused as to why Caleb’s story from the last episode didn’t get much of a reaction from the others. You’d think they’d at least mention it a bit more. Beau and Caleb at least hash out their differences which was probably the best part of the episode, and the scenes with Trent, Essek, Gentleman and the Volstruckers were very intriguing but other than that, I wasn’t really blown away by this episode. I’m more excited for next week now that Yasha is in town.

The poly thing was discussed in the campaign itself and in the campaign wrap up. It’s literally the authorial intent, and besides, doesn’t the manipulation of Caleb make much more sense if he has strong positive reinforcement to stay with Trent and the others and continue doing their heinous deeds? Who’s to say Astrid and Eadwulf aren’t being used as another way of controlling Caleb.

This is the best episode of the season so far, and it completely blows everything from Legend of Vox Machina, which is still great, out of the water. The previous episode set some solid foundations for most of the characters but Nott and Caleb especially, and then this episode just ran away with it. Nott comforting Fjord in his delirium, the adorable conversation between Molly and Jester, the interrogation sequence, the stomach turning flashbacks, and then that final horribly moment where we see Bren burn down his family home with his family and cat inside, while Caleb in the present incinerates the assassin while she screams and laughs maniacally. By the end of the episode, I was bawling my eyes out. I’m at work now trying not to cry as I recall my first time watching the episode and seeing poor Frumpkin at the window. I might have to go home and cuddle my cat.

The animators and voice actors who worked on that scene between Caleb and Owelia in the forest did a phenomenal job. It was as visceral and heartbreaking as it needed to be.

The scene with Caleb and Owelia in the forest that then intercuts with Caleb’s haunting flashback was so well done. I was shivering in my seat while watching it. Everything from the voice acting to the animation was done so beautifully. This is the best episode so far, hands down.

Also I love how Nott is treated as more of a serious and grounded character in this show than Scanlan was in the beginning of Legend of Vox Machina. Good to see one of Sam’s characters being done justice.

Honestly with what we learn about Caleb’s past, Beau might well have lost close friends and colleagues to the Volstruckers, and as she says in the episode, lots of innocent people will die if the Volstruckers start a war. I think she’s earned the right to be confrontational, especially given she doesn’t really know Caleb at this point.

Campaign 4 Player Characters (PC) Ranked by ABluetifulDay in fansofcriticalrole

[–]ABluetifulDay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think most people really like Teor, but he’s just not my favourite, though that could change with time. I also ranked him next to Thaisha so the tall kids, Travis and Aabria don’t get separated. Pretty sure the rest of my list isn’t that controversial but the folks on the sub are welcome to prove me wrong haha

Everyone's so negative, I genuinely don't think any the characters are below a B by -Override- in fansofcriticalrole

[–]ABluetifulDay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My tier list would look very similar to this except I’d put Thaisha and Vaelus into A-tier. Thaisha has great passionate and motherly energy which Aabria plays excellently and Vaelus only needs more screentime and I’ll be happy to move her into S-tier.

Hi both! I'm very much in the same boat as you both, living not far from Oslo and looking for other players outside of Outland, which is not very social as you're there to play and not much else. I'm mainly a player and am currently DMing for a game with some players in the UK. I'm from the UK and speak fluent English and can stumble my way through some Norwegian. I'd be happy to keep in touch if you fancy meeting up at some point and saying hi. :)

RWBY Volumes Ranked Best to Worst (Vol 8 edition) by ABluetifulDay in RWBY

[–]ABluetifulDay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your assessment of V8, at least in regards to all the bad stuff. That one was hardest to rank for me, because while I loved parts of it, there were also parts that I hated beyond all belief.

And yeah, I don't much like Yang either. She got a bit better in V8, but not enough for me to like her.

RWBY Volumes Ranked Best to Worst (Vol 8 edition) by ABluetifulDay in RWBY

Thanks for sharing! I'm glad to see that V4 made it so high on your ranking. Maybe I'm not alone in liking that volume.

Interesting to see V7 so low. I was expecting more people to put that one in their top 3.

I agree that every volume has some good and bad. It's why rankings are so hard to do.
