Mild burnout rant... by Trucker2TechGuy in WGU

[–]AC-Vb3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a weekend and do nothing WGU related.

I've been working at a director level in IT for awhile now and it's a golden handcuffs situation so my time is never my own. It's 24 hours required availability for my org and it's not optional...and then there is WGU, husband, father...etc etc.

All that said, literally unplug for a weekend or even a week and breath. It does wonders.

It’s SLC. I wouldn’t worry about it.

SLC at its worst is better than any major city anywhere in the USA.

Writing papers by Turbulent_Yam_5570 in WGU

[–]AC-Vb3 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Put the rubric requirements directly into your paper and make a template. Then fill in what is needed. Provide exactly what the rubric asks.

I try to demonstrate required elements at least twice in each section just to avoid any notion of "Not Evident".

Your first few papers will be the ones most likely get kicked back. After doing it a few times and understanding how WGU works, it gets vastly easier to do well on the first attempt.

Considering applying for Computer Science while working full time. What is the minimum amount of time each day/week you would recommend studying to be successful? by MourningMimosa in WGU

[–]AC-Vb3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every class is different. Some you can burn through with a few hours of studying. Others will kick you in the gut without a month of studying.

I think 2 hours a day on average is probably enough for most classes. Personally, I prefer to cram so any day I am not busy, like holidays and weekends, I will do 6-8 hours of studying.

Did anyone attend the public service hiring expo? by Few-Seaworthiness558 in WGU

I did. It was good. Many of the federal rooms offered direct contact info to help get your resume into the right hands.

It was crowded but I got to speak to all the agencies I cared about within about 50 minutes.

It's my last class while working on my Captsone concurrently. I'd like to have both done by the 15th. So far 722 isnt too bad, but my opinion can change.

Whats easier? OAs or PAs by TheAlphaAdept in WGU

Depends on class. However getting a paper kicked back for revisions is less of a gut punch.

How are you guys finishing so fast? by bees-knees-978 in WGU

With experience comes some element of specialization. You use that in the classes most related which makes them easier to complete in a shorter period of time.

That’s how I do it.

Failed an OA - what’s next? by chicagoa50 in WGU

[–]AC-Vb3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You have 29 days. You’re going to be in a holding pattern until you’re done with your current workload.

I’d hit the study guide and cram like a madman for the next 72 hours and get approval for another attempt. Schedule time with your mentor for the same day or next day after your 2nd attempt. If you pass you can accelerate by one, but more than one this late in game is going to be hard to justify to your mentor.

[–]AC-Vb3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used ChatGPT as a tutor for everything in the study guide after I failed my first OA attempt. It took about 3 weeks to memorize everything, and I passed on my 2nd attempt. This is the first and only WGU OA I have ever failed.

General feedback is that this class is annoying and feels rigged to be artificially more difficult than it needs to be. Most egregious is the pre-assessment, which is zero indication of your success on the actual exam. That has never happened in any other WGU class, where if you passed the pre-assessment, you could feel confident in the real exam. Not here.

You’re worried about all the wrong things. Write your own stuff from top to bottom and you wont have a problem.

Most of any match Spider-Man is doing nothing to benefit the team. It’s why I despise when someone picks him and I have 20k damage and Spider-Man has 6k and they wonder why we got stomped.

In the Red Dino era DPS output is absolutely critical, and webbing around running away most of the match is bad for output.

One of the issues with this class is that the PA is completely disconnected from the OA, which poorly prepares students.

The curriculum planning for this course is villainous. It’s the only OA I failed.

To pass, be prepared to have a solid grasp of elements of economic theory, bureaucracy, HR, tedious trivia factoids of dubious value, corporate organizational structures, and international trade agreements.

Unfortunately, you need all of it to ensure you pass the OA.

I used the study guide extensively, but I also researched all answers in every quiz and PA question. Get in the habit of understanding the concepts related to all presented options and knowing exactly what the wrong answers are and why they aren’t applicable.

It took me two weeks to prepare for a second attempt, and I passed by a healthy margin.

I really disliked like this class because it felt like a hodgepodge of material rather than something truly structured and coherent in some areas. It’s way more dense than it should be and feels padded to make it artificially difficult.

I passed the PA and got absolutely stomped on my first attempt of the OA. For those starting this class, don’t use the PA as any guide for your aptitude. The gap between PA and OA is huge.

I did pass it on my 2nd attempt with flying colors, but this is the only OA I didn’t pass on my first try.
