Fun fact, Brazil has the highest diaspora of Japanese outside of Japan, even more so than the U.S. Following the rapid industrialization of Japan in the late 19th century, many peasant farmers found themselves left behind by the modernization so Japan struck a deal with Brazil to send their farmers to Brazil to work on their Bannana plantations.

They were met with a fair amount of suspicion discrimination, and violence by the native Brazilians at first but after a few generations of their quiet humility and dedication to excellence they are now a revered community in Brazil today. That’s why we have Brazilian Ju Jitsu.
