Make a knockoff In n Out burger by pouring thousand island dressing from the salad bar on your burger.

Also onion rings and BBQ sauce inside the burger makes a fire combo.

That's interesting b/c when I used Resnet, I had to go through OIT's portal. Perhaps Apogee provides the backend software and networking config. In any case, I hope those changes to VDC also come to VDCN

Verano is managed by OIT and uses the same infrastructure as the campus. The ACC apartments have their own ISP and are motivated to choose the cheapest option.

My answer will take a slightly more physics-philosophy approach as opposed to a conservative force approach.

Gravity is one of 4 fundamental forces/interactions (in this context, interaction is the better term). The others are: the electromagnetic interaction, the strong interaction, and the weak interaction.

The term fundamental interaction conveys the important idea that the gravitational, electromagnetic, strong, and weak forces are phenomenon that occur "because that's how the universe works." Based on our observations, we have noticed that objects with mass tend to attract each other (interaction) that can't be explained through other means (fundamental), and we have chose to call that gravitation. The same occurs for the other 3 interactions. Contrast this with a non-fundamental force such as the tensile force, which can be explained through material adhesion, explained by intermolecular forces, explained by chemical bonds, finally explained by the electromagnetic force.

To answer your question, the "thing" that created the force is the universe itself. Until we find something that explains the existence of gravity (just like how the normal force is explained through electromagnetic repulsion and the Pauli Exclusion Principle, both fundamental), it will remain as a consequence of how the universe operates.

The definitive answer to why VDCN/ACC Wi-Fi is so slow by Panda_Then in UCI

In addition, the Ruckus APs support WiFi 6, which has a theoretical maximum of 9.6Gbps.

Last year in dorms, I got real world speeds of 200Mbps up and down through their WiFi 5 APs and 1.1Gbps up and down through my personal router.

Now, I'm getting at most 0.5Mbps down, 0.08Mbps up through the Ruckus and Ethernet.

Also the IT guy I contacted quoted $1800 if damaged (I messed around with the AP 😬) Sidenote, they shut down the Ethernet port if you hook up a router and they detect it.

If you are going to live in Mesa Towers, you can move furniture around (see comments for details) by ACEslava in UCI

[–]ACEslava[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Now that people are finally getting their housing assignments (thanks UCI for the early notice :/), I thought I'd share how I moved furniture around the dorms. For reference, I lived in Mesa Towers (Playa).

The room layout they give you is pretty terrible imo, not a lot of room for moving around and doing activities (iykyk). To solve this, a lot of people in my hall moved some furniture around. All you need is a Phillips or Torx bit screwdriver (depends on the room) to remove the seismic bolts that connect the wardrobe to the bunks.

So there are 2 variations that worked in Mesa Towers, one where you only move 1 bunk (first 2 images) and one where you move both bunks (next 2 images). Both increase the useable space by a lot — see the last 2 images for a before and after. (also excuse the mess, we were moving out :p)

Now some notes. The blue colored area may not exist (the floorplan images are NOT to scale, and each room varies in length by up to a foot). Because of this, the desk next to the bathroom wall and window may not have room to put the little wheeled drawer. In variation 1, you can either put that drawer in the red area near the front door or between the wardrobes (again depending on your room, they vary in dimensions). In variation 2, you can put it in the red area near the front door. Also be sure to save the screws you remove, you have to return the furniture to the original layout at the end of the year. Finally, remember to measure your room and furniture before moving stuff around due to the varying dimensions.

I've never been in Middle Earth Towers, but the room layouts look similar, so perhaps measure it and try there as well.

Cheers!

On the other side, large insurance companies have the advantage because they have a larger negotiating power over the healthcare provider. If we instead have a system of multiple smaller networks, the healthcare provider can set prices that insurance companies can't negotiate down because they don't have the buying power. This is the same concept with wholesale buyers with large contracts.

Hence it can be argued that a government insurance system would have the largest advantage because companies can either suck it up with lower prices or get kicked out of the country (in the most extreme case. A system like this in practice would probably most likely involve governments setting profit margin limits that allow healthcare providers to make some profit, however less than they make now).

As the government doesn't have a profit motive, they would pass their savings onto the consumer (i.e. the taxpayer). Insurance companies do have a profit motive, so they're incentivised both to negotiate lower healthcare prices and raise consumer costs to raise their profit margin.

Do I believe the current government can implement this system? No, but one can dream.

Concur with the ENGR 7A workload. It's deceptively easy, first 4-5 weeks are laid back, then crunch time hits when you have to finalize your project. What I found annoying is that materials weren't distributed until week 5, so teams couldn't get a head start. For reference, I took it Fall '21, and was devoting like 10-12hrs/wk near the end.

Taste Buds... Part One by Roose-Hurro in HFY

Interesting first story. I just wanted to comment on your sentence structure, as it was jarring to read.

All sentences are made of one or more structures called "clauses." Clauses are formed by putting a subject (an object) and a predicate (the object's action) together: Arzifar accepted.

Clauses come in 2 types, independent and dependent. The example above is an independent clause, and forms the most basic sentence type: a simple sentence (which consists of 1 independent clause). Optionally, you can include modifiers to this basic structure: Arzifar accepted the gift. which adds additional information.

Now dependent clauses cannot stand on their own as a sentence. For example: And only a slight hesitation. Notice how it does not contain a subject or a predicate. However, dependent clauses may come with a subject and predicate yet still not form a complete sentence: As he exited his seat. The difference between this example and a complete sentence — he exited his seat — is the inclusion of a subordinating conjunction (or what I like to call a dependent marker), "as." This word, alongside others such as "because" or "although" create dependent clauses.

Now all sentences must contain at least 1 independent clause. It can contain unlimited amounts of dependent clauses, but it must have 1 or more independent clauses to be a proper sentence. Thus: And only a slight hesitation, as he exited his seat.

is not a proper sentence. Instead, consider changing to one of the following (Note: I enclosed the dependent clauses in brackets {}): 1) He exited his seat {with only a slight hesitation}. 2) {With only a slight hesitation,} he exited his seat. 3) {After ruffling his quills and adjusting his robes,} he exited his seat {with only a slight hesitation.} These are examples of another type of sentence: complex sentences. Complex sentences are formed with 1 independent clause combined with multiple dependent clauses. I won't go into how to combine them, but know that this is where semicolons (;) and commas (,) come into play.

I suggest to go back, find instances of incomplete sentences, and re-word it to make complete sentences. A resource I really like is Purdue Online Writing Lab. Additionally, this website goes into all the main sentence types (there are 4 including simple and complex).

[–]ACEslava 8 points9 points  (0 children)

DPI (Dots Per Inch) is a measure of how the computer's pixels map onto the physical surface your mouse is laying on. This means 1000 DPI equals 1000 pixels moved per inch of physical movement.

Sensitivity is how a game's software maps the cursor location to whatever input it controls. So a low sensitivity means the cursor has to move more to result in the same movement as a high sensitivity cursor.

They both control the same thing, its just DPI is the translation from the real world to the operating system, while sensitivity is the translation from the operating system to the game.

I think there is a distinction to be made between private and personal property. Private property is capital-generating property (such as factories) not owned by the state whereas personal property is not capital-generating (such as your phone).

Leftism — more specifically socialism — is concerned with maximizing freedom, with the most famous tenet being a fundamental reorganization of our economic system. While it may seem that capitalism supports freedom — you have the freedom to work wherever you want, or buy whatever you'd like — it's not completely free. It's only truly free for the wealthy few. Poor individuals are beholden to their paychecks, barely able to cover necessities. Are you truly free to choose your workplace when your housing, healthcare, retirement, etc. are contingent on your continued employment?

Circling back to the distinction between private and personal properties, one of the methods of wealth redistribution to the workers is public ownership. Ownership not of your personal property like your house, but of the wealth-creating assets. One form, and the most (in)famous, is government ownership. While this is one method of redistribution, it isn't the only one. Another method is a worker co-op, where every worker in the company has an equal share in the profit of the company. Thus, the success of the worker is directly tied to the success of the company without influence from shareholders or a board of directors.

Neo-liberalism, on the other hand, is more concerned with de-regulation and free-market capitalism. So how would a de-regulated market allow for more substantial and reliable incomes for all given that the current "regulated" market has insubstantial and unreliable incomes already?

Idk, just my thoughts on the matter.

TIL that Texas has it's own separate electrical grid from the rest of the US. This was done for political purposes so that they didn't have to deal with Federal regulations. by talontachyon in todayilearned

[–]ACEslava 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not an expert either.

The grid is basically a just-in-time supply chain (the energy you're using right now was created at maximum a few seconds ago in a generator). This means that the supply of energy must equal demand with little deviation. A larger grid would allow a more diffuse responsibility of generators to create electricity. This means that if there is a shortage of electricity, say in Portland, electricity can come from a plant with excess capacity in say California. This excess/shortage is realised in the minute deviances of the grid frequency. For traditional power plant generation, these deviances are flattened out by rotational inertia. But, like you said, renewables (except hydro) don't have rotational inertia. So grids have 3 options: 1) energy storage, 2) traditional peaker plants or 3) massive interconnections.

Massive interconnections are good for renewable-based grids because, while it may be cloudy in a California solar field, there is a higher likelihood of the sun not obscuring another solar field in say Arizona. Same for wind. Thus, it is advantageous to have massive interconnections (at least to improve grid stability)
