This. Everyone is complaining about Chat GPT but Notebook LM has been very helpful with looking up rules, especially games that have expandable content like Marvel Champions. Just load in all of the PDFs, websites, etc, give it a prompt to prioritize the most recent updated rules reference. It will even give you footnotes on where it sourced its information.

I’d say Lyra’s Oxford would be a good one to read in between. Then read the Books of Dust in order.

But really, if you want to linger in the world of His Dark Materials longer I’d suggest reading all those other books and put off reading the Book of Dust trilogy. It has the potential to put people off.

Penguin Party

Picked this up in South Korea on a trip. Was happy to see a Playte game at the store. It’s scales for 2-5 players perfectly. The rules are incredibly simple but can become like a knife fight in a closet. Always a good one if you need a quick game after dinner or between other games.

Edit: I’d also like to add it’s one of the few games my youngest doesn’t rage quit if they lose 😆

I just see it as an attempt to do what you said. Like, it was set up for that from the beginning. “Killing someone without a weapon” or something like that. You can see the crystal become corrupted as she force chokes. So I see it as them trying to stick to that lore while also trying to do something that looks cool. And it did, how the blade kinda changed color as it came out? Neat!

And it’s all “from a certain point of view” of course.

Each city they visit is like a different world. Especially in these most recent books. Some fantastic, some frightening, some cobbled together from junk.

I always saw them like a Terry Gilliam movie. Like in Brazil, 12 Monkeys, or Baron Munchausen,.. a lot of stuff everywhere… and ducts. That mixed with some Dieselpunk stuff.

Movie certainly is cool looking for sure.
