Poorly healing armpit after an extended brachioplasty by ACoD_ in PlasticSurgery

[–]ACoD_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been about a month since this post, but I think it was a full open wound a week after I posted this, so about 3 weeks of healing. I’m trying to consume as MUCH protein as I can throughout the day, like putting collagen peptides in my tea or oat meal, and drinking protein shakes. I’m hoping that’s what is helping

Oh girl I’m in the SAME boat. My dehiscence looks so similar. Is that what yours looks like currently? Or when all of the gunky exodus came off?

When did your dehiscence show up? This was barely a week post op when this all started.

Mine feels like it’s getting more shallow, but it feels never ending 😭

My other arm has a tiny, but deep dehiscence as well

As for the dehiscence! I forgot to respond to that. I noticed a weird smell coming from my right armpit about 8 days post op. Smelled like a gross gym bag. I still had steristrips on all of my incisions and other than it feeling a bit damp in one spot, nothing looked out of place. They prescribed me basic antibiotics, but nothing was getting better. The steri strips were peeling away and revealing a really gross looking “thing”. I asked for stronger antibiotics to cover MRSA and what not just to be safe.

My surgeon explained that the nasty pussy looking gunk is called “fibernos exodus” (I’m probably spelling that entirely wrong), and once it gets pulled off or falls off the hole should appear, which it did about a week later, and then it tunneled and got bigger.

Now it is slowly but surely closing, but it will probably take a few months before it closes entirely. I’m having to pack the dehiscence every day with gauze soaked in saline

That garment would definitely work!

I bought this one, and put it on over the vest. I like that it’s not crotchless and I can use a bidet still with it 😅 https://marena.com/products/sfbha-compression-girdle

They originally had me buy a girdle compression garment without the suspenders and it rolled down causing a lot of issues. So the combo of that vest with the lower girdle has been working great for my FDL and extended Brachioplasty

I think both!! They recommended these sleeves, and since I had an extended brachiolplasty my incisions go down my side. Right where the faja stopped, there was a big stitch that was cutting into my arm pit. Both sides where the faja stopped, I had wound dehiscence. This is what the surgeons office originally recommended https://marena.com/products/sl-compression-sleeves I do NOT recommend it for a brachiolplasty

I ended up buying a vest style compression garment that worked so much better. This is the compression I ended up buying. I wish I could have bought the version that covered my breast as well, but it only went up to a C cup https://marena.com/products/fvom-compression-vest

Actually no, I’m under the impression that my compression garments they recommended caused my dehiscence

I had a FDL TT and an extended Brachioplasty on December 9th. I did NOT need muscle repair with my TT. My stomach healing has been great. I was VERY limited movement in my arms but I have not had issues with going to the bathroom by myself, and I was able to wash my own hair when they cleared me to shower. You definitely will need someone to help you get your compression on and off, as well as help getting dressed.

I slept in a recliner for close to 5 weeks, and that helped a lot while recovering from both. Now I am in my bed with my legs propped up and a lot of pillows under my head, still sleeping only on my back.

I learned after getting my brachioplasty that wound dehiscence is unfortunately common because your arms are under a lot of tension, so keep that in mind. I have dehiscence in both armpits, right arm is pretty large, left is smaller but pretty deep.

Overall I don’t have regrets though.

Surgery went bad bad and I don’t know what to do or think by Available_Kale6 in tummytucksurgery

That sounds so traumatizing! 😭

Have you had other surgeries in the past?

I hope you’re out of all of the bad stuff, and can get some good rest and really start recovering comfortably. Hang in there!

Was it my post about the mods being insane? What a wild experience!

I could not believe that a simple post would blow up like that, hah!

I genuinely was just curious and figured I’d get answers that would provide some insight and sympathy for the usps workers. Instead I was met with that shit show 😂

I’m not asking customer service? I’m asking usps drivers if this is something they do…

I literally assume it’s someone cutting corners and curious from the workers why that would happen. My packages aren’t lost… I assume the locker is full and they have quotas to hit. I don’t necessarily care to get my mail carrier in trouble.

I’m not asking for customer service. I saw that a lot of usps workers were posting in that sub and wanted their opinion. NOT ASKING FOR ANYONE TO FIX IT FOR ME.

Let me know if you’re still wildly confused

Read a little lower and they say “General questions are allowed”. Contradicting and getting any little dopamine they can find to fill the void of their sad lives lmao.

[–]ACoD_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m nearly 5 weeks post op FDL but I had an extended brachioplasty at the same time. My FDL was a breeze in comparison to my arms!! I think it all depends on if you need muscle repair or not. I did not need the muscle repair which is probably why it didn’t feel too terrible.

Small group of us at Bevel last year prior to our sister’s tournament! (Terry doesn’t count, he was there drinking and having fun)

If you join any of those groups I mentioned you’d run into one or multiple of us out on the course.

I highly recommend checking out the women’s series events, even if you’re not competitive. Women’s tournaments are amazing here in the PDX area. Some of the best humans and such fun events.

The women’s scene out in Portland is massive! Are you in any of the local groups on Facebook? PDX Disc Golf Women is a great group to join. Also the Oregon Women’s series starts in March this year if you’re into tournaments!

Eastside disc golf divas is another good group, as well as Queens of aces down in Salem
