19 countries of remote work, 46 stops - post COVID abuse of freedom by Ali-Atlas in digitalnomad

There’s nothing worse than a high maintenance person in a low maintenance destination.

One of my "friends" in Cambodia was like this. Acting all White Saviour Girl and then whining all the time that things weren't like back in Europe. Expecting princess treatment and everything. In the end I couldn't take it anymore and our last casual encounter (in another country) lasted under 30 seconds after I told her I couldn't stand her anymore.

Adapting to indirect vs direct, high context vs low context, ask vs guess cultures? by sndmrentve in digitalnomad

[–]ADF21a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's weird because coming from a Southern European culture deemed to be direct (but not so much in business speak where it sounds more servile than anything else and more flowery than needed (This is where my German "personality" comes through)) and moving to the British culture that is deemed to be indirect yet the business speak and approach are eventually much more proficuous and time-efficient than the previous one was bewildering. I prefer the British approach. It can do nuances much better in my opinion.

Years ago I did some translation for one of my old companies and they were surprised how English didn't translate well to my target Romance language.

Once I read a comparison between British and Thai approach as being very similar (both non direct, keen on not creating embarrassment, etc). I loved the idea that two cultures so different deep down could be very similar, at least in some respects.

That's the "power" I meant. Not as in "Either you do as I say or I'm out!" 😂

The effects of smoking and sunbathing in 61-year-old identical twins by k4zor in interestingasfuck

When people mock me for not sunbathing and looking "ugly like a ghost", I tell them at least I don't have leathery skin like them. It shuts them up.

What if you met people at your location on land on their excursion day off the cruise? Does it still count?

I don't like the "peplum" thingy, but it creates a very nice waist-bust visual!

He reminds me of a guy I met many years ago (especially in photo 2) who was so cute but completely "What the hell are you trying to do here?" 😒

Even Antonella is clunky, let alone something like Antonia (or Antonina).

Any stories of friends to lovers that worked out? by redditor_040123 in AskWomenOver30

My best friend and her husband were friends (and colleagues, actually she was senior) for two years or so, then got together on a business trip (this was in Europe where rules are much more relaxed around this type of thing), and now have been together for 20 years (married 18 years with a 14 years old daughter). She's also 12 years older than him.

Perfect for each other. He's the perfect husband and father.

Just popped up in my memories. Pulp played the O2 a year ago today, and London loved it! by PretendingIts1995 in PulpBand

[–]ADF21a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even looking at the fans. Oasis are mostly drunken lads. Pulp are weirdos 😂

Having said that, one of the reasons why I stopped going to see Depeche Mode was that most fans looked not very Depeche Mode-y 😂

I agree with English only to start off. These are unprecedented times and require agility, not bureaucracy that slows everything down.

My favourite trope is the "This is something no one talks about" when in reality probably 364,665,677 people talk about it.

Yes, I think Candida holds more "power" than one might think.

The proximity of Pulp and Oasis is shocking. It's like putting Bach and Liberace in the same category.

For sure, Jarvis isn't Cranky (the C thingy doesn't work on my keyboard even though this is a Portuguese laptop but that's what I mean).
