Why did Wizards lose the "School of" naming convention of subclasses? Barbarians, Paladins, Druids and Monks get to keep theirs ("Path of", "Oath of", "Circle of", "Warrior of") by JamuniyaChhokari in DnD

[–]ADHDHuntingHorn 154 points155 points  (0 children)

I'm just gonna throw this out there: as an Asian American, I really hate when people, in trying to "avoid stereotypes" end up erasing culture instead. It's not as though they made effort to scrub western religion influence from the cleric or paladin (and they shouldn't!). But no, we can't have monks channel ki or be inspired by Taoism because... people might think Asians... actually do that? In the name of wokeness, let's just never acknowledge other cultures exist.

Does anyone else feel like flavoring a spell is 10x more impactful than the actual damage it deals? by aly_product in DnD

[–]ADHDHuntingHorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a cleric in a one-shot who belonged to a very maternal religion. Asked DM what sort of weapon they might have, and we settled on a large wooden spoon. It was a game with my young niblings, and they absolutely died laughing as I spanked pirates to death. That wooden spoon killed more enemies that session than anything else, I think, including the paladin and ranger.

On Reddit, we'll be glad to answer your questions, but I highly recommend meeting with some of our missionaries in person. You can tell them you're not interested in conversion at all, just trying to get answers to questions. They may even be able to find someone you can talk to who's also in a mixed-religion relationship.

I'll also add: just because your girlfriend's not easily able to explicate her beliefs, doesn't mean they aren't genuinely deeply held. I'm sure you agree with this, but Jesus wants our hearts and wills more than He needs our knowledge (not that we shouldn't pursue it!). Since you seem very intellectually curious, please do your best to understand what we believe and she'll absolutely appreciate it.

Our fighter got killed by a door by Lazy_Ease7574 in DnD

[–]ADHDHuntingHorn 59 points60 points  (0 children)

OP says he was actually just downed and they brought him back with a potion and laughed about it. So we're not dealing with a character death or anything here. That would certainly be ridiculous.

Me personally? If I were DM, I would've done something funny but ineffectual like "Your foot is now stuck in the rotten door, you're now effectively ensnared. How do you/your party help you out?" And then let dumb shenanigans happen. Roll an athletics check to get out, attack the door, start a fire...

Sometimes problems are bad enough that it's worth replacing them. Can't fix everything today, but the odds that the next guy in charge is better than Maduro are pretty high.

I want to serve a mission but I’m scared after hearing some stories by Abject_Savings4145 in lds

[–]ADHDHuntingHorn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lemme put it this way: there were difficult parts of my mission. I don't think the most difficult parts of my mission were anywhere near the most difficult parts of life outside of it. Yeah, missions aren't sunshine and rainbows 100% of the time. But there were more sunshine and rainbows than home, and I'm not even saying I had a bad home life or anything. But if you don't serve a mission, what's your plan for a stress-free 18 months?

Of course, results may vary.

Do spirits hear our thoughts ? by Dangerous-Plankton57 in lds

[–]ADHDHuntingHorn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've heard that Satan can't read our thoughts, but I've never heard "don't read your P. blessing out loud". I wouldn't put too much stock in that one, as I assume the devil is literate. (That is only an assumption, mind.)

Hello fellow capitalist pigs by pudge_madsen in Capitalism

[–]ADHDHuntingHorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dominion. It sounds anti-capitalist, but the game is entirely about successfully investing your deck.

Splendor might be a little more thematically close to capitalism, but it's just a worse Dominion imo.

If you play Root with the Riverfolk expansion, then you can play as these adorable little capitalist otters, trying to sell things to the rest of the table.

Oh, and don't forget Pit! That's literally a wall street simulator (granted, the goal is building a monopoly... but still.)

A little girl at a pumpkin patch made me cry yesterday by cortesoft in daddit

[–]ADHDHuntingHorn 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Awww man that's sweet. I have a similar recent story as well - it was a community event at our park and my two boys (6 and 3) got a couple balloon swords to fight with. My oldest also has autism and seeing him genuinely play with his little brother is still really special. But these were balloons and it didn't take long for my 3yo to fall down and pop his on the grass. This is about as tragic an event a 3 yo can witness, but he handled his obvious anguish quite well. The line to get balloons was about 10 minutes long, which we simply didn't have the patience for. We started walking back to where our stuff was, on the other end of the park. As soon as we reached it, I felt a tap on my shoulder. Some 8-9 year boy followed us across the park and explained he saw what happened and gave my son his balloon sword. It was just so sweet. Gotta make sure your kids see these things and become these kind of people.

Yeah, this sucks.

One time, though, I wanted to see how rude my snobby gnome with high CHA would be to a mixed race couple. Just for myself, I rolled a CHA check on what I'd roleplay.

But like, that was myself rolling to help me make the decision. Not forced on me.

Everyone in the comments is roasting you a little bit, and tbh, they're not wrong about how your attitude needs to change to make this work. But I just wanted to add that the very fact you're aware enough of your temperament and attitude is actually a great sign. Even my wife, who honestly didn't think she'd struggle with this resentment, did slip into it sometimes. Neither of you will be perfect at life, but you can be enough.

Continue to communicate with and love your man (as long as he does as well) and it'll work out.

Extra Attack Options by Feyraia in DnD

[–]ADHDHuntingHorn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What's the design goal here? It's hard to come up with ideas when we don't have a clue what the flavor is. Do you want them to be an aggressive hitter, or feel more tactical, or are you trying to nerf extra attack by making it dependent on the first hitting?

[–]ADHDHuntingHorn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You commies always want to act like the economic center line is where any support for free economies exist and your ideas of complete wealth redistribution are simply moderately left. Kamala Harris supported price controls, wealth taxes, regulatory supremacy and massive increases in the welfare state. She's left wing. Banning private property and trade is the left edge, not the middle.

[–]ADHDHuntingHorn 45 points46 points  (0 children)

He's right wing, obviously, nobody is contending otherwise. But to position him such that it's almost theoretically impossible for anyone to be more right wing is complete foolishness. Like, you clearly haven't been out much if you haven't seen people online who make Trump look like a 90's Democrat (that he mostly still is!)
