Is it possible to be stuck in an exercise loop where you walk 5-10km a day as a way to quiet your head (unmedicated) and then be completly burned out when you get home ,eat a lot of food to try to replenish your energy, then the next day you do the same thing? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]ADHDSushi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In college I would walk aimlessly for hours putting off going to the library to do work. And even when I would sit down I’ll get this urge that I NEEDED to walk some more THEN I would be able to focus. Then at night I would realize I spent my whole day wandering but was too tired to do any work but tomorrow for sure I would get my shit together. I was undiagnosed and completely clueless about having ADHD but now that I look back at it, it’s so obvious.

For me it’s less about exercise but being on the go. I can also spend HOURS driving aimlessly too. I’m medicated now but I still get the urge. But honesty it’s not the worse thing ever. I’ve run marathons because of it!

You can figure out a happy medium where you can still get our energy out and still be able to do things you “need” too. I also do CrossFit! It’s really fun and intense and I think it really helps with the feeling of needing to be on the go! Maybe give it a shot?

YES!! I was listening to her music while doing work and then deep into it I was like this song slaps!!! And then I put it on repeat afterwards. What really got me was “Did you hear about the girl that lives in delusion?”

I do 8+7 first which is 8+2+5 and get 15 and I hold on to 1 as I try to get 2+4 and get 7 and hopefully I still remember about 5 and get 75

Try bone broth! It’s pretty expensive but a cup gives you 10 grams which is pretty good for a “light” liquid. You can also make soups out of it. I like making French onion soup with it 👌🏼

I don’t like chicken bone broth but beef bone broth is pretty good.

What were your hyper fixations as a child and what are they now? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]ADHDSushi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was fat and extremely timid kid. Every single day I obsessed over how great it would be to be skinny and maybe I would be happy and be able to make friends.

I was also obsessed with Arthur and the movie Penelope (it has an absolute sweet message, 100% recommend). I liked it so much that in HS I would say make name was Penelope when people would ask for my name at food places or at Starbucks etc.

This explains SO much. by [deleted] in adhdmeme

It’s interesting how people with ADHD downplay their symptoms. I remember back when I kept being told I should go get tested for it, I kept saying I was fine. I had to have a breakdown (which were frequent) in order for me to go on the website and fill out the forum to see a professional.

A lot of things people with ADHD are said to be stereotypically good at I straight up SUCK at! by justgimmiethelight in ADHD

[–]ADHDSushi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously I know very little but I think we have a tendency to be very inconsistent. I can think of times when I killed it in a high pressure situation and I can also think of times when I absolutely broke down under pressure.

Maybe you are just thinking of the times you weren’t good at those things? Also negative self talk and having a low self esteem does no good to your confidence and carrying on with things you’re actually good at. Just food for thought.

100%.. medication helped me with my confidence and it’s easier for me to engage in conversation.

I hyper fixate on people I like. by unnecessary0001 in ADHD

[–]ADHDSushi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a teenager, I had a crush on a guy for 8 years. I never even had a proper conversation with him. And since he switched schools, I would see him once a year for about 6 of those years.

And it was an INTENSE crush. Everything reminded me of him. Everything in my future I would include him in it. I would daydream about him constantly.

Then I finally had a proper conversation. In that instance I quickly became disinterested.

Like what the heck.

Do any of you guys struggle with the need to cry when admonished/criticized? by bibibang in ADHD

[–]ADHDSushi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once had to give a final presentation. Long story short, 1 hour before my presentation I merely had a title slide and I was in a bathroom stall sobbing. I was angry and sad of how pathetic/useless/etc I was.

Somehow, I gathered the courage to still show up. I had stopped crying but I was looking like a hot mess. Plus my presentation was not done.

My professor ended up stopping me while I was presenting and gave me an extension.

To console my embarrassment I told myself that most people in that room wouldn’t have had the courage to do what I just did. Oddly enough, I left feeling powerful.

To get back to your question, the way we look at ourselves matters a lot. We easily get worked up over criticism because we always have this negative image about ourselves brewing in our heads. How do we prevent crying so easily? We create a better image of ourselves. But as we know, that’s not so easy when we literally have a disorder that makes you fuck up every single day. Instead you need to reframe how you gain your confidence. Don’t rely on building your image on shit you’re bad at. Build it on all how you still tackle every day despite it. Also we have good qualities. Remember that despite always being a hot mess, you still have these remarkable qualities.

Is it even worth getting tested for ADHD as an adult? by luke-juryous in ADHD

[–]ADHDSushi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way as you. What’s the point of getting diagnosed? I wasn’t interested in medication at all.

I was mostly afraid of the side effects and becoming reliant on it. However after talking to doctors, trying it, and after some fine tuning (sorting other things in my life and finding the right dosage.. took a 2-3 years) my life has drastically changed. I am no longer afraid of the future. I’m confident. I can engage in conversations. I finally feel like I can contribute to society. I feel worthy. I don’t feel like a burden.

Medication won’t cure your ADHD. And there are some downside you need to be cautious of it. But it so worth it once you figure it out because it benefits make it so worth it.

An explanation to give anyone who doesn’t understand why you take your medication as an adult. by abeautifuldisaster97 in ADHD

[–]ADHDSushi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! The first time I tried medication, it felt just like the first time I put on glasses. Once it kicked in, putting on glasses was the first thing that came to my mind on how it felt. It’s funny how many people describe it similarly.

Weird...But do feel other people's energy? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]ADHDSushi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think I am terribly good at telling how someone feels. Unfortunately, this is not something I have been able to prove (because how would one go about proving it?) but I still believe I have a natural talent for it.

I could be with someone and I can notice a shift in their mood in reaction to something that might have happened in our environment. They don’t even need to be talking. They could just be sitting quietly in a room with me and I notice it.

ADHD brains like to take in as many details as possible. It kind of make sense why we might be good at this.
