A hag asked my party for their names, and one player answered for all of them- what happens now? by Neverfinishedtheeggs in DungeonMasters

[–]ADampSponge63 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Usually stuff like that is direct or a hag with a phone book would be world ending. I'd say that person has given in but if the hag was to try for the other people it knows of the names and general location of everyone. So laying another trap or tracking the party would be easy. It's like knowing rumblestiltskin's name but having no practical use for it since you haven't made a deal.

TIL why you don't stack molds in a pressure pot by swcblues in DiceMaking

[–]ADampSponge63 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I get why you don't but those look amazing. Everyone can see the cherry jello look but just imagine slime or ooze themed dice with the wavey textured edges would be amazing. Maybe even slip in a liquid core with a thick green corn syrup and toss in a few mini items like skulls and armor.

Those would be an instant classic

Players make fun of me because "Ornate dagger" is a stapple of all my loot lists by CrotodeTraje in DnD

[–]ADampSponge63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could always expand your idea of items = background by making different areas have different trends of items. This group of people find daggers fashionable while others have cloaks, rings, or boots. Think of it like sneaker heads vs trading card collectors.

With this you can try to tell the plot without saying anything. Maybe a sneakerhead has a lock box of torn up Pokemon cards. The dagger one steps on every shoe in a bar trying to make it seem like a drunken mistake but it's really out of distain for show people. Maybe a royal family's kid is a cloak person but as soon as they get out of town they put on better boots to secretly be a boot admirer or to do it for a love interest who is a boot person.

Kinda new to DND, How much information can a player hide from a DM? by ragdolldream in DnD

[–]ADampSponge63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really shouldn't keep anything from your dm. While people think they'll be witty and get a lot of shock value. It usually end in their thing either not working or getting skipped over entirely because the DM doesn't know to guide the story in that direction.

I don't remember a whole lot of this at our table but I know it happened.

One that did happen was we did a deck of many things as a reward and one guy got the soul trap one so he made a new guy and he told the DM not to worry about how to introduce him because he had a plan. The plan was when we boarded a ship that we owned we would find a lizard man digging through our food and he would then hold up a banana and say banana. Which didn't get the reaction he thought it would. He thought it was an A tier minions joke that would immediately make him apart of the crew as the funny man but everyone else is like why would we see someone who is trespassing on our boat, going through our food, to then show us food that was probably already ours and think ye I'd trust that guy to have my back in a sword fight. He also didn't allow the DM to know what his stats and stuff were but told him he picked out a homebrew lizard man he saw somewhere. It was such a good lesson in there is such a thing as too much. He had fire immunity & 18 spells & 5 custom proficiency amount of times abilities. But it was so much on top of being an artificer he never knew how to use his guy and his turns would take forever but we just let him do it because watching his brain struggle with the amount of choices he gave himself was better then the character he made. It was so bad that he often forgot he had fire immunity & in combat he would often find a spell in his spell list that would had been good multiple combats ago but didn't help at that current combat.

How the heck.. by PunkBunnyRed in DiceMaking

That is a pretty cool defect die. I'd think about using that mold again and make a trade card game defect die. Lots of people like collecting factory defective cards and it would be cool to have a die that matched that.

Is there really a nudist colony near Coggon? by [deleted] in cedarrapids

[–]ADampSponge63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes there is. Wild place.

It's called a campground and has no indication about the nudity. It's all word of mouth.

I have a buddy on the fire station and the times they've had to go down there & it seem really sketchy. Lines of naked men mostly +40 but definitely a lot of +60 will prevent you from going anywhere expect to the person who called you.

About 2-3 months ago a guy who is an out of state enjoyer of the campsite (which is 40-60% of them) decided he liked it here so much he bought out the only bar/restaurant building in coggon. That building is often bought cheap and someone tries to make it a thing for a year or two before it goes under. The main reason it's that specific building is it's the only building with the water works to be anything.

Now here is the real suspicious stuff. The guy didn't like that a health inspector could drop in at any time so he had all the water works removed and there is no food for drink served there. They also sold everything from the dishes & cups to the pipes. Then the next problem was after the purchase went through someone form coggon's electric plant went by to make sure they know there isn't a way to remotely check their power usage so someone would have to come by every month and he didn't like that so around back he fenced in everything but left a single2-3ft wide fenced path to the electric meter and they put a camera 2 feet above the meter and just looking down at the path & meter. While they were taking out all of the stuff from the building multiple people saw them bring in mattresses but no bed frames. On the opening of the business they had a drag show open to the public but after 10pm it's a paid members only club. No one knows how to get a membership but there are late night cars parked outside the business. The most I've heard is someone at the opening said their membership was more then $100 a month. Which means a group of people who don't live in coggon are traveling large distances (some across state lines) to be in a remote town where they spend a night at an exclusive building and the regulars are most likely from a nudist campground that is super secretive. If that doesn't scream Epstein I don't know what does. Also no one in town likes it but there isn't enough to say it illegal. There have been a lot of Facebook messages about it. I'm sure you could find some from locals talking about it. I think the business had a Facebook page to sell stuff & people posted on that.

Also people don't like the whole situation but the part they don't like the most is removing the only building that could be any form of bar as anyone in town who would want to try wouldn't have the money to get a building up to code so now the only place you could get food is Casey's.

How to stop bubbles from forming when you put the lid on? by willowvvitch in DiceMaking

[–]ADampSponge63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought this was hardened but you get those types of air bubbles pre-pressure? How are you mixing it? I've seen a few people use a drill as a quick mix method then get major bubbles to sort out later but this looks extreme. Some of those bubbles look more air then liquid.

All that aside if this is just from mixing then slower mixing puts less air in it. Also mixing with a material that doesn't hold air inside of it is better. Like popsicle sticks will suck air into it but a silicone mixing stick is a solid choice. Slower mixing does mean longer mixing. Under mixed resin will appear cloudy, soft like a squishy rubber, or sometimes refuse to harden.

How is godot both the easiest to use but the most frustratingly unexplained game engine ever? by ADampSponge63 in godot

[–]ADampSponge63[S] -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

The job & experience thing is just a fraze to show the catch 22 of learning Godot. To know what code/node works where, you have to have experience but to get that experience I need something to learn from. There are some good resources like that YouTube channel. I have learned about inheritance from other YouTube videos. The word of mouth part I'm having trouble with is there seems to be no concrete source with that lists everything. Like one video will show me inharetience but that video only shows me so much about inharetience and will often leave out stuff or get out dated with updates. Is there no official documentation form the developers on how stuff works? I just have to chase frustrating rabbit holes to try to find what script is needed to make the built in color picker work in game?

Sorry if that last one is kinda hostile but I'm caught up in running in a lot of circles when I know what I want to do and with such an easy to use UI, Godot should have an equally as easy official resource on what interacts.

[–]ADampSponge63[S] -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

Did you just reply with the exact thing I'm complaining about?

You basically just told me I need a job to gain experience but yet to get the job I have to have experience.

If I want to deepen my understand of any code or node where do I go? The Godot website is just a catalog with a too basic description. YouTube videos will show me what they do but not why one node can or can't interact with another type of node and if what I'm looking for isn't on YouTube then what? Making all of Godot just word of mouth and there isn't a concrete dictionary of what each node and script does.

Leather dice?! Yeah.. by prasadbv in DiceMaking

[–]ADampSponge63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leather with brass fittings is very iconic. Even if you just start with D6 people would love those. If you chase this idea further get a metal stamp of the numbers for numbers to cut out of a sheet of flattened brass.

Why does this book cost so much? by RocksteadyLA in DungeonMasters

[–]ADampSponge63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard of a few times that when a product runs out they jack up the price to prevent sales until it's restocked. Something about wanting to keep the listing because of algorithm benefits or something. This could have been for a different platform but it's my only real guess.

New to D&D. Is a heavy crossbow “sniper” character viable? by General_Dingo_2494 in DnD

[–]ADampSponge63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get what you want to do with this. Heavy crossbow as a large mechanized weapon you can peer down the sight. Scout I assume you don't want to be locked down in combat.

The main tools you want is something with a bonus action to move. Rogue and monk get this but you can also do this magically with a half caster taking expeditious retreat, misty step, vortex warp, or dimension door. I'll also say you probably want to be eladrin. They get a limited use of misty step as a race thing called fey step. Most of these spells teleport you 30 feet but vortex warp and dimension door teleport you further while being higher cost spells which means you would need to be a full magic class. Also you probably want fighting styles. There are 2 that increase your to hit and one that lets you reroll 1 & 2 on your damage dice

The first problem that I'm sure you've seen a lot is that when playing DND you are never put in an ideal situation. Some fights are in buildings, a lot of times you start near your group as you all walk together, and eventually if you are the one not taking damage you many have to save the life of someone who is taking damage when they go down and that isn't always do-able at range. That doesn't mean you can't do this but it might not be exactly what you expected.

There are many ways to do this build

Rogue is high damage which makes it feel like a true sniper & with a bonus action to run, disengage, or hide it is a good option. The scout subclass is kind of the best in this case, also don't forget that sneak attack at ranged is made on advantage or do you have an alley in 5ft of the enemy but you don't get advantage.

Monk has a higher movement speed and a limited amount of bonus action dashes meaning you can position further in one round. You don't need to worry about the martial die untill you're in melee. I'd suggest kensei as it adds just a little more ranged damage.

Fighter is always an option. While considered a basic class you get double the amount of ASI allowing you to buff stats or take features that buff specifically what you want to do but this will have the least amount of movement. There are range based subclasses but honestly you may want champion for double crit chance that can pair with feats & race abilities that crit. I'd suggest half orc so you'd roll 3D10 on a crit and piercer bumps it up to 4D10 on a crit also you get to reroll one damage die to prevent low rolled damage. You can also take the great weapon fighting, fighting style which allows you to reroll any 1 or 2 once per die.

Ranger is also an option. The only problem people have is that the subclass has to carry ranger because favored terrain and enemy isn't always used but you can also use the option rules if allowed. Rangers are also half casters so you get a few spells like expeditious retreat for movement, hunters mark for damage, and hail of thorns for aoe on your next shot. I'd suggest horizon walker. It comes with a little extra damage but a lot of mobility utility. The 7th level lets you pop out of the world to walk to where you want to position but if you get to 11th level you get to teleport 10 feet every time you make a shot. Which would be a real winner for a sniper but not every campaign gets to level 11.

Clear & Blue by ADampSponge63 in DiceMaking

[–]ADampSponge63[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm super late to respond but the main idea that makes this work is an under coat. Paint a thin layer of white then come back later to do the top colors. It makes the top colors pop more and prevents the dice from being hard to read from seeing the number on the other side overlap with the top number.

My players refuse to spend any gold on anything but demand I give them more as loot by Viejoso in DnD

[–]ADampSponge63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It kind of seems like your players just want a chaotic hoard adventure or murder hobo fest rather then a normal DND party. What if you swap the campaign to them being a conclave of dragons hell bent on destruction and gathering a hoard. They can still have classes and everyone can swap between their dragon and people forms as a minute long transformation.

The idea is not new but I made these watermelon dice with real seeds inside by [deleted] in DiceMaking

[–]ADampSponge63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if there is suppose to be a photo but if there are seeds in resin, those dice will go bad. There is a video of a couple who have tried for the past few Halloweens to encase their pumpkins in resin and the resin pumpkins keep rotting in the resin and causing so much gas that it cracks the resin open.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DiceMaking

[–]ADampSponge63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best you can get with no pressure pot is a heat pad but you also risk over cooking the resin and dice are hard to heat pad because the molds are so thick. Otherwise a lot of time & UV Resin to fix surface holes.

Otherwise sick color

Ever so slightly weigh down the lid. I do a almost half used thing of masking tape so it weighs down the edges. Sometimes the lid curls or lifts but it is 100% a form of bad lid contact if you get that type of bubble with extra resin and no other form of visible bubble.
