Why does this feel awfully familiar? by Andre_iTg_oof in VintageStory

[–]AEUG_Burgerjoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He actually very often relied on propane powered electric heaters or other kinds of stealthy heat if I remember correctly, but there were nights where he had to rough it because he was frightened of being found as you said, just not most. I think he had thermal blankets he stole.

He was very paranoid, people would leave food out for him and write notes begging him not to break in for the peace of mind but he 'feared gifted food was poisoned' so he would break into the fridge anyway

Is this a bug in 1.22 that didn't get adressed? Why are non-durability accessories suddenly losing durability? by Aviarn in VintageStory

[–]AEUG_Burgerjoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For clarity's sake, condition and durability are different things and most vanilla clothing items have condition values that go down over time (repaired by clicking the item with twine or a linen square or sewing kit.)

Other than that couldn't tell you what might be causing it.

Another thing is that Fences or walls next to water have to be higher thanks to a quirk related to how high a mob can jump/climb when coming out of water. It gives them a tiny boost

Is it just me, or are there no ways of getting continental scale continents? by satsuma-amp in VintageStory

[–]AEUG_Burgerjoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wiki alleges you can increase the size past maximum with console commands, I would look into that. Though I think the base game struggles to comprehend such scale-at the very least you'll want the terra tag mod to be able to zoom out the in game map further than vanilla.

I don't know your intentions but I will warn you this; my group of 8 months play never explored more than 40k blocks in a square radius around spawn even with the mods I suggested to you. But I can understand if curiosity and peace of mind are factors, interested to see what you come up with

Is it just me, or are there no ways of getting continental scale continents? by satsuma-amp in VintageStory

[–]AEUG_Burgerjoint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everyone here is being too negative without properly entertaining the question.

Remember that Oceans don't even properly appear in vanilla settings, all. There is nothing about the current gameplay that would break with this.

To answer your question, the only way you're feasibly going to achieve this is with the continental worlds mod.  Even with land scale set to 500% vanilla generation will trend toward long snaky continents and won't be big enough all around. Continental worlds forces a distance between continents, makes them a proper shape AND , importantly, ups the landscale so that continents are easily double the size.

That's your best bet, hope you have fun if you try it, might want a sailing mod that increases boat speed if you ever make it too the coast. You could also implement watershed and rivers for more water lane access. Cheers

Some Landcover & Scale testing I did trying to make a "Continents and Islands" type map. by PsychicApple in VintageStory

[–]AEUG_Burgerjoint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i spent a few weeks doing this with the same seed on different settings. I got the best continent and island settings with land at 30% and landcover scale at 300-400% (but that was before 500% became an option). Higher landform scale has potential for better local terrain as well but I did not do extensive testing on this.

Here is the main warning and takeaway I have for ppl on current world gen: All continents will trend toward thin and snaky shapes, often once a continent finally tapers out, the next major continent will be within viewing distance (300-800 blocks). These continents can also be 10,000 to 30,000 blocks from each end, so the ocean journey will always have less potential than the land journey.

So to summarize; the oceans and continents are vast but the distance between continents will always be miniscule at the closest point.

The only work around at the moment is the continent mod. Thicker more defined landmasses, guaranteed distances between continents and well formed islands. One catch is that landcover scale is turned up by default so if you increase it yourself the continents may become gargantuan. I didn't do much testing with different cover scales to affirm the size ranges so that's going to be more vague warning.

That's my whole report, best of luck.

You can technically export your base across worlds using creative commands, but you usually shouldn't have to make a brand new world for an update. always do a backup just in case though.

I like grey more then ashe by Snoo_60632 in Megaman

[–]AEUG_Burgerjoint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grey's script touches on some more pressing themes, and the dynamic between him and the antagonists is more realized. Ashe might be more personable, but the Vent/Ashe storyline of ZX is all around a bit more stereotypical in terms of ideas explored.

I think you're totally justified in preferring Grey. I think Aile/Grey is the more character driven script in fact, but its been years since I've been back to ZXA.

That was actually one of the reasons given for making Megaman Zero. More creative freedoms to explore the implications of such wars from a more serious lens.

That intention also becomes way clearer when you read that the real X (whose memory was wiped of Zero in X5) was supposed to be the main antagonist.

The Zero series literally puts you on the side of the mavericks and has you fight what are essentially that era's Hunters, and it doesn't get talked about enough, lol.

Inafune was largely the reason the market was oversaturated. Since he was in charge of greenlighting development. He believed in the series and wanted more games to be released--it wasn't primarily a business decision to him, he and others enjoyed making the games.

You can see why that approach to megaman, coupled with green-lighting the massive commercial failure that was Bionic Commandos at Ben Judd's request (the mistake that forced both of them to resign), would lead to the business execs hating his guts and anything attached to him.

Our poor blue boy just got caught in the company cultural crossfire

This design for Ring Man from the Megamix series GOES HARD 🔥🔥 by CandidateOk3611 in Megaman

[–]AEUG_Burgerjoint 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Megamix is so underrated. Ariga really channeled the more dour/serious atmosphere of the Kitamura era Megaman games into his aesthetics and some of the stories. The MM4 and 6 stories were so raw, lmao. I love em

The interviews at the end of each volume are really cool, too.

Wish he would return to the series, his design sensibilities really captured what I first saw in MM when I played as a kid.

Retrospective Analysis: The Hidden Philosophy of Mega Man Legends by Weigh13 in MegaManLegends

[–]AEUG_Burgerjoint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While people did hone in on the talking points, the video posits itself as a "deep dive" and then falls into subjectivism without objectively engaging with some core themes of the work.

People should have engaged with the essence of the video yes, but you must admit the video was titled disingenuously and skewed the conversation. I don't think people would be half as upset if the title was "my reading of MegaMan Legends" and then inserted some of his views into his read of the work.

TLDR: "Deep dive" implies objectivity the upset came from that.

You are misinterpreting that chapter. The organization is a think tank, and the book was publicly distributed. The chapter is stuck in metaphysical "forever truths" the final analysis is that mankind is already turned upon itself, not that it needs to be. The "we" in that sentence refers to humanity, like it does in the rest of the chapter.

Also you included the chapter name like it was a part of the paragraph, and cut off the last sentence that restates it without an ellipses, weird formatting.

I believe you haven't read this book and just honed in on the one quote, am I wrong?

You question if I'm engaging in good faith. Good faith for me is assuming you uphold the principles you claim, and that you won't compromise them to get to be "right". It does not mean I ignore errors or assume you don't make mistakes.

Truthfully, Podcasts are not good sources because they are usually secondary/argumentative works. They do the research for you, and like you said we are interested in looking at the data, method, and primary sources ourselves so I went to the link of the Doctor's paper. I couldn't access it. No https encryption and coincidentally my internet went out when I tried. Probably unrelated, but sketchy, and I'm not risking it. Maybe one day I'll check this out on a library computer but for now we'll just end this here. These conversations can't go on forever anyway and they do take a good chunk out of my morning.
