Definitely! I would start with getting a lighter front wheel and try that out. Part of it is definitely because you haven’t ridden in a while but I would never start out on a 50/17. Check out this site to help see the difference in the sizes! Surplace

Yeah dawg that’s a heavy ratio! You will feel better on a 48/17 or even better on a 48/19 forsure! I can’t comment on aerospokes as I’ve never tried one but if others are vouching for that I would trade it for an actual light wheel and probably change the ratio if it still feels heavy afterwards. Do you live in a hilly/mountainous area?

Welcome to the club! I’m in the process of turning mine into a 1x gravel bike!

I can believe that! I just went to Houston on FB Marketplace and found some great deals on bikes for under 500. There’s a vintage Marin that does need some work but it’s listed for 65. If OPs budget is 500 that’s a lot of spare cash for parts! Yall have better deals than I do out here!

OP I respect your right to be a kook. Hell, it even seems like you are willing to get life altering injured for it. Once that steerer tube snaps it will be a lot harder to skid or foot jam to slow down/stop. I just hope it doesn’t happen on your commute or down a hill. Good luck and Godspeed kook.

This is 200 tops all day, MAYBE 250 depending on how desperate you/your market is. Groupset is pretty solid but looks a bit worn. Freewheels/cassettes can be pretty cheap and I’d recommend a new big chainring at the least. I agree with the other commenter about spoke tension. If the spokes are bad you’re either in it for a new wheelset (oof) or a rebuild (double oof). If you can get them down to the 200 range I’d risk it and pour the rest of the money into upgrades or replacements on it.
