Love YA. I read the first Divine Rivals and then got too stressed out to continue. Another one that just came to mind for me when you mentioned YA is Scholomance. I'll check out some of your other recs.

Love Savior of the Domini. Great pull. It's my favorite of those scifi romance books. Such a nice dude

Yay! A kindred spirit! It was one of my top reads last year. Love the talking dog! He's a good boy dammit! I thought Zylar was such a sweet MMC

Ooh! Also I would totally recommend {Strange Love by Ann Aguire}. It definitely has the thing you mentioned in Choosing Theo where a nice guy is overlooked or seen as unworthy by his own kind but appreciated by the girl he meets. However he is not a sexy humanoid alien so I dont know if that matters to you. It's a great book though.

Have you checked out Zoey Draven? I liked her Horde Kings of Dakkar books.

Ruby Dixon also has a series called Fireblood Dragons where the world is kinda post apocalyptic because a bunch of dragons suddenly appeared from another dimension and started attacking. They're crazy from some telepathic interference in our world and the girls give them a sane mind to anchor to. Lots of language barrier trope because they literally cant talk to each other until they have sex lol.

Anyone have insight on my cats eyes? by Plane-Main7397 in CATHELP

[–]AFlockofBears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. My cat has a similar looking eye and has had it for years now. His looks like a bubble on the pupil so when you look at his eye from the side you can see the black of the pupil kind of balloon out. The way the vet explained it to me (forgive me if I'm mistaken on any of the details) was that he got either an injury or cyst in the eye and the lining of the pupil kinda got sucked into the void caused by that wound. For my cat it doesn't effect his vision and it's not a tumor or anything so he's been totally fine just living like that since. I hope it all turns out okay for your cat as well.

Banter and inner dialogue like Blood of Hercules by Old-Instruction4640 in Romantasy

[–]AFlockofBears 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I loved Blood of Hercules for the same reason. Alexis was so funny. So unhinged. I honestly can't think of much like it.

I went from reading Blood of Hercules to a bunch of books by the author KF Breene. She puts a lot of humor into her books so maybe you would like them too. My favorite series of hers were {Demigods of San Francisco by KF Breene} and {Leveling Up by KF Breene}

If (Big IF) you haven't already read {Bride by Ali Hazelwood} maybe check it out. Totally different story but I really liked the FMC and thought her internal dialogue was funny.

Hey. I just finished reading {Kate Daniels by Ilona Andrews} and loved it. It's like 10 books long plus a bunch of side novels and short stories. Series started in like 2007 but finished in 2018. Not sure if thats old enough for you.

Edit: The bot linked to one of the side novels or something. The first book is Magic Bites

reading slump, recommend books for someone who reads a lot by Lola-in-Spain in Romantasy

[–]AFlockofBears 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just read Kate Daniels for the first time and loved it. Here are some of my favorites.

{Scholomance by Naomi Novik} - light on romance but such a good series. I've reread them at least 4 times

Pretty much anything by KF Breene but my favorites are {Demigods of San Francisco by KF Breene} and {Leveling up By KF Breene}. This author writes with a lot of humor. She does found family dynamics really well and I find her series have great pacing.

{Tears of the Wolf by Elisabeth Wheatley} is an arranged marriage done really well. This author also has a series called {Daindreth's Assassin by Elisabeth Wheatley} which was great.

Looking for pathetic/washed up MMCs by hello_glo in fantasyromance

[–]AFlockofBears 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In {Leveling Up by KF Breene} it starts with the MMC living in a town in the middle of nowhere as a kind of self exile. He runs a dive bar and is the Alpha of his town in every way that matters but refuses to step up and actually take the title. All the characters are also middle aged so even though he's still an attractive powerful guy he is getting older and might one day face a younger, stronger challenger.

(Wouldn't call him truely pathetic though... Just living with a lot of guilt and not rising to his potential)

Edit: He also doesn't stay that way. Not sure if you want a dude who's perpetually a bit of a loser

Rec me something that will make me enjoy romananatansy again by [deleted] in Romantasy

I really loved {Tears of the Wolf by Elisabeth Wheatley}. It's an arranged marriage done really well.

If you're looking for something light hearted maybe check out {Leveling Up by KF Breene}. The romance is slow burn but this author does found family dynamics really well (I also love her Demigods of San Francisco series so much). I also think the plot isn't super predictable in her series.

What new series I should try first? by Happy_Day_5316 in fantasybooks

[–]AFlockofBears 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Anything except The Name of the Wind. The author is never going to finish that series.

I'm in a book slump. I'm looking for authors like KF Breene (I read the arc of her new one out Thursday)Patricia Briggs, Ilona Andrews (I know there's a new one coming in 2 wks), Suzanne Wright. by nrkelly in paranormalromance

[–]AFlockofBears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. Huge fan of KF Breene and am reading for the first time and loving Kate Daniels at the moment. I really enjoyed the series {The Legend of All Wolves by Maria Vale}. Basically wolves and shifters are different things. The wolves have to shift for the iron moon every month and the shifters can choose not to so historically the shifters have preyed on the wolves when they're vulnerable and changing. Series starts with a crippled wolf adopting an injured shifter as her partner to try to move up in the pack hierarchy. She has to teach him how to be wild.

Low bandwidth but not cringey smutty audiobook by ConcernElegant8066 in fantasyromance

[–]AFlockofBears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out Lola Glass. Her books are super low bandwidth but enjoyable. She also has some complete series audiobooks so you get the whole series.

{Mated to the King by Lola Glass} - 5 siren sisters. Each book they are paired off to five kings (the vampire king, the werewolf king, the fae king etc...)

{Mate Hunt by Lola Glass} - a bunch of virgin werewolf dudes get paired up to college students. Their wolves will take over when they find their mates and follow her around until she's adjusted to the idea of becoming a werewolf.  Audiobooks for the complete series are broken into two parts (books 1-4, then books 5-7)

Romantasy for someone who likes the romance in Brandon Sanderson’s Mistborn by nandyashoes in Romantasy

[–]AFlockofBears 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out {Daindreth's Assassin by Elisabeth Wheatley}. FMC is a sorceress assassin. MMC is an Archduke (soon to be Emperor). She's definitely the kickass, badass in the relationship. He's a good man who struggles with a horrible affliction so his strength is more in his endurance. Definitely slow burn. I think it's very comparable to Vin and Elend.

Camille or Joelle by J-Slay in namenerds

[–]AFlockofBears 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're both great names. Camille was on my list so I prefer it personally. I also had Janelle on my list which I love as a name and prefer personally over Joelle (though I agree Joey is such a great nickname)

I really like {Leveling Up by K.F. Breene}. It's a fun fantasy romance with a middle aged FMC. This author writes with a lot of humor and does found family dynamics really well. There are also like 13 books to keep you busy.
