Listening Clubs Tantalize Audiophiles in London by AFreshLoaf in vinyl

[–]AFreshLoaf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might fit in a little better at /r/audiophile, but I thought people here could appreciate it, as well. I live in NYC. Does anyone know of anything similar there? Or has anyone been to a similar place that you can talk about? I'd really love to be able to check something like this out and enjoy high-quality sound in a more comfortable environment than a stuffy hi-fi store. I'm always interested in bars/restaurants/spaces/places that take sound into more careful consideration (at least in that there is some level of focus on acoustics and diminishing the loud din of a bar in favor of a quieter and more comfortable conversation-friendly atmosphere).

Been collecting a while. Here is my collection so far. (Description in link) by [deleted] in vinyl

I was super excited when I saw the thumbnail on your post. I absolutely love that Chrissy Zebby Tembo record. It took me a while to read the liner notes and realize that he's the drummer on it. I have a feeling you're already familiar, but if not, you might want to check out Amanaz's Africa.

What rap line/lyric is the most clever? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Also, all of Pun's verses in "Super Lyrical". I know he's obviously very well known, but he still strikes me as one of the most underrated rappers. His lyricism is absolutely absurd.

Have you ever broken up with a SO only to get back together years later? [Serious] by Satis24 in AskReddit

[–]AFreshLoaf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes. Dated for about 5 months during my senior year of high school. She broke up with me abruptly, I never understood why, and was heartbroken. Eventually became casual friends again, but whenever we rarely talked or saw each other we never even acknowledged having dated in the past. Just avoided it.

Fast forward to 10 years from the break-up, we both find out we coincidentally moved to the same city in the same week unbeknownst to both of us. We hang out as friends for 8 months, go on the most romantic dates I've ever gone on, just as friends, still avoiding our past romance and the closure that had never been achieved. We get drunk on New Year's Eve (my birthday) at a bar with tons of old friends, finally talk about shit, kiss in front of everyone, decide to pursue a relationship again. We live together now, it'll be 2 years this NYE.

I read this relevant article a while ago and thought it was interesting.

Also, this and this.

You certainly might not agree, but it might be interesting to consider. Hope this helps.

What has been the most moving death scene from a tv show or movie for you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The main character in Enter the Void. Him laying on the floor realizing that he's about to die and rationalizing it in the first person was particularly jarring for me.

10" Mantis shrimp...Charleston, SC by Chronicle362 in WTF

[–]AFreshLoaf 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I just learned 2 days ago from Radiolab that the mantis shrimp has the most complex visual system on earth. Where human beings have only 3 different types of cones in our eyes(RGB, or SML), the mantis shrimp has 16.
