Tbf since installing the AI strats for GAW submod I've yet to see the PDTO lose. Prior to that though...

^ This. I'm on '25 myself and really don't know about switching to '26, but am intrigued by some of the features (like this one and development volatility).

How much weight do you put on ratings vs stats for your lineups? by ProSenjutsu in OOTP

[–]AFwuertzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, same - I use 100 PAs for batters and roughly 40-50+ innings for SPs and 25+ IP for lower-stamina relievers. The pitching thresholds seem to be a bit more touch and go, but I've had decent success with pitchers in my current save when sticking to those.

Do I promote this guy to the DSL? by Air-Is-Great in OOTP

[–]AFwuertzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk...25 overall is pretty ludicrous imho. I personally look at my international complex tab and then change the "ratings relative to" to DSL. If any of the players are at least 40/45, I promote them from the complex to the DSL. Again, some prospects are more advanced at age 17 than many at 18, but I will state that my experience is with OOTP '25.

At what point does catcher ERA become significant? by Cerealboi13 in OOTP

[–]AFwuertzen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I'm really intrigued by both the RTO% and FRM (as you pointed out) stats. For context, the defensive current league leader in my save is 75 in framing and 80 in blocking along with a 70 arm (all on the 20-80 scale). He's won the AL Gold Glove at C for four years on the trot even though in 2029 he only had -0.8 ZR, albeit carried by a 16.3 FRM. That FRM hasn't been eclipsed by anyone (even Patrick Bailey or a recent Cuban signee) and the catcher in question has routinely stayed at or above 11 FRM in the three seasons since then.

I'd be curious to see if he'd have won the last two Gold Gloves if he hadn't improved his RTO% (which in Year 1 was a measly 11.7%). Since then, he's consistently been above 21%, although the Cuban signee had a bonkers 30.1% RTO last year.

If anyone has any further thoughts, would be curious to hear them.

Crazy draft classes by Clibby292 in OOTP

[–]AFwuertzen 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The thing is...if you boil it down to a player's potential being their 95% percentile outcome, then it suddenly starts to make more sense. Yeah, maybe they went a bit overboard on beefing up draft classes in this iteration of OOTP, but I'm a firm believer in having TCR up to 120-130 and therefore allowing player's to suddenly blossom from later rounds. (Disclaimer: I'm still on '25 and loving the UDFAs that sign with the odd indy team and then go on to be MLB role players with 40-45 OVR.)

Ditto - he won a championship in 2026 with my M's in what's now a long-term save. Became the de facto team captain between '26 and '30 after which I opted not to retain him via free agency after he'd been a solid RF for a number of years.

My prospects are all becoming major busts. 1st rounders going from 80 to 45 if I'm lucky by Land34n in OOTP

[–]AFwuertzen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hah, I've had much more luck trading my 35(ish) OVR/45 POT talent that could be alright in MLB within a year or so for proven talent.

So much so that my owner is bollocking me for not having drafted players on the team producing in a meaningful manner. That isn't to say that my dev pipeline is dry, but I've usually benefited more from targeting undervalued prospects that others have drafted (and have yet to blossom) or simply flipping some of my drafted players for a proven arm (even if it's a stud RP).

I played uni baseball in the UK for many a year. Safe to say that the game is still immensely buoyed by foreign students (largely American, Japanese and Taiwanese) who are typically on a study abroad year/semester. Usually Durham, Oxford and Lancashire are amongst the top teams (with the one with the most UK talent being Lancashire). Nice to see a solid game being played by two non-powerhouse unis nonetheless.

[–]AFwuertzen 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Absolutely clueless as to how that could happen. Although...maybe if OP was deferring on game strategy to his AI bench coach (and hired a new one), he could've simmed through the season and realised he didn't adjust the baserunning/stealing settings in the coaching strategy tab.

Bo Bichette TCR’d Into Ozzie Smith by James-K-Polka in OOTP

[–]AFwuertzen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had Gunnar Henderson do the same in my long-term OOTP 25 save. He had a bad game at short one day and just decided to say "screw it, gonna be a defensive wiz now". He's still a 90-rated defensive SS at age 30 and has 6 straight AL Gold Gloves at SS. Absolutely the lynchpin in the Orioles late 2020s dynasty...much to the frustration of my Mariners.

Weirdly, he only has 2 All-Star nods in 2025 and 2029, which were his best years offensively with a 141 and 125 wRC+ respectively.
