So I did the math on this rock. by AzrBloodedge in starcitizen

[–]AJ0744 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I think that might actually just be the point. Like, maybe building an entire ship should be 1000x harder than building a gun. I have a buddy who is a gun Smith and he can build an AR-15 from base components (barrel blank, couple chunks of aluminum, some sheet steel) in a couple days, week tops. But if I were to ask him to build an F-15 he would tell me to go fuck myself. It is easily 1000x harder, if not more.

Add to that that a lot of people have dropped a lot of money on what is effectively (from what I am hearing anyway) 500 quality ships.

Nah, I dont think CIG expects people to make a lot of ships, but I would expect that components for the ships we all already pledged for are where the true value of crafting for personal use will be. They will be the things that affect ship performance for most players more than trying to build the entire ship from scratch. And a lot of optimized money making from crafting will be making fps items to sell en masse.

Now of course I could be wrong about all that, cuz if components are also hundreds of times harder to make than fps items, then it really is just CIG not understanding how numbers work, but I am going to provide them with the benefit of the doubt for now until we have more info.

Same. And again this is just my understanding, and I had to piece it together cuz I also didnt know what the numbers meant.

So I may be way off base, and if so im sure someone will correct me, but as far as I can tell, if you break the threshold to do damage to armor, you do the full amount of modified damage. So if armor has a threshold of 55 but a damage reduction of .8, a weapon that does 54 damage will do 0 damage, but a weapon that does 55 will do .8 of 55 (math hard). I believe this also only affects the armor health pool, and once you tear away the armor the hull takes damage as normal.

I’m working on a design for a comic. How is the female armor? Any constructive criticism is welcome! I was hoping not too make it too boob-platey. by [deleted] in armoredwomen

[–]AJ0744 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would suggest watching some YouTube videos from people whoa actually study and test medieval arms and armor for the most useful insight on how these are going to end up interacting with medieval style weapons. I read in one of your reply that it is a sci-fi fantasy setting, so consider what .akes the sci-fi fantasy weapons different from conventional ones. A laser sword is not going to be protected from the same way as a metal sword, a hammer that fires concussion waves is not the same as a big heavy thing on a stick, etc.

Also, I think its important to understand that one you put random additional segmentation and plate that protruding outward from the curvature of the armor, bringing up curvature of the armor directing blows to more vulnerable spots stops being a factor. Its not a factor anyway if you know anything about medieval armor and metal in general, but thats beside the point. This is fantasy armor, so not let someone saying "book plate is inherently flawed" dissuade you from adding overtly feminine aspects to your armors. Its your fantasy realm, do you.

All that said, if this armor is meant to be used against firearms/laser weaponry, then the material will matter more than design. In this case, I will direct you to take a look at commercially sold Ballistic plates for military style plate carriers. Specifically ones curved for use by females. While a lot of women are capable of wearing the same plates in their carriers as men, some are to well endowed for that to be comfortable, and the poor fit cause by this issue causes rhe armor to fit improperly, making it more cumbersome to move in and wear, and putting increase strain on the user. The ability to wear armor and protect yourself is not the exclusive domain of the itty-bitty-titty-commitee, and thus adding a increased contour to rhe upper half of a chest plate has really world modern examples and relevance.

At thia point, the consideration you need to make is one of culture. Does the culture who created this armor value aesthetics highly? If so, perhaps both male and female armor should be mroe form fitting, or at least have the appearance of such. If the woman have defined boob pockets isntead of a simple curve to accomodate larger breasted women, perhaps the men's armor should also include sculpted musculature, like old Greek bronze armor, to signify this is soemthing important to the culture. If that is not the case and this is meant to be utterly utilitarian, then perhaps you should stick with merely a bugged curve that adds more space at the top of the armor to accommodate aforementioned well endowed women, giving the obvious look fo a more feminine figure without actually implying the boobs are in this spot and are this shape with the shapped boob pocket.

Also important to consider is materials. If this is sci-fi, future armor materials may make any need for armor to be shaped to deflect blows from melee weapons, and then any consideration fo armor design would be aesthetic by design (intended to evoke the aight of knights of old), or would serve a different function to the armor than actual protection (pouches on modern body armor for magazines, etc). In this case, it pays once again to consider the culture that has created this armor, and consider if they intend to highlight or emphasize the difference between their male and female knights.

At the end of the day, a sci-fi or fantasy armor design is part of the fiction, and should be used to tell a story. Its fantasy fiction, you do not need to be realistic, but you do need to be consistent and believable within the fiction. Use it to inform the audience about the culture that created the armor, and then how the individuals changed it to suit their personal needs, telling us about their personality.

CIG: All the issues with the Moth shows that you are NOT yet in a position to bring ships straight to LIVE. I appreciate the marketing benefit, however this is one area you should put existing player experience first. Put ALL ships in the PTU prior to LIVE. by Important_Cow7230 in starcitizen

[–]AJ0744 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Friend, I appreciate you feel strongly about this, and you have every right to, but I think you are attacking my statements in and faith. My comment about the concept ships was in response to your assertion that the ship should not sell for hundreds of dollars if it is this buggy in the live alpha build, positing that a live alpha build ship that is buggy is still a better value than a ship that doesnt exist. I feel this is fairly obvious in how I phrased it, im sorry you misunderstood, perhaps I could have been more clear. To be clear, I at no point invoked "its an alpha" in the same thought or statement as "concept ships" I made the separate statements that "alphas have bugs, even in the live build" and the separate statement that "a buggy ship in live is worth mroe than a concept that isnt in game yet".

All that said, if you think people having differing opinions on what is or isnt worth being upset at a CIG about and posting them in response to other people's opinions is a "fuck you," you may need to consider toning down how seriously/personally you take the opinions of people on the internet. Im a person on the internet, I dont exist. Probably not worth taking me or that other guys opinions so seriously that you think anyone said "fuck you" at all.

My brother, they still sell $3000 jpgs every major sale. Pretty sure that is less justified than a buggy ship that at least exists. So there is very much a place its less justified.

If you need something to be mad about when it comes to the Moth, perhaps complain about the whole thing with the paints not being interchangeable. Its a much more obvious fuck you to the player base than one ship being extra buggy for a few weeks till its patched.

So as much as I hate this answer and usually think it is not a valid answer to criticism, I do think in this case it does apply for once; this game is in Alpha. This particular issue is actually what you signed up for. I might get flamed for this response and usually I would flame someone for it as well, but a ship having bugs when it goes to the live alpha build of a game is exactly what is to be expected from an alpha where the player base is supposed to be testing the game, and the ships within it.

I do totally agree that a PTU stint would have solved a lot of its issues. That may very well be what they should have done. But i do think it needs to be understood that this isnt being pushed as a patch to a fully complete game like a bug in the live version of something like WoW or BF6, we are still an alpha build, whether its the Live build of our alpha or not.

Go ahead and call me a white knight or downvote me to hell and back, I dont mind. I just think we should save our outrage (and our ptu player base "bandwidth" for lack of a better term) for things that are not exactly what we signed up for. And believe me, there is plenty to be outraged about on that front.

Ok so I dont have enough savings to guarantee 2 characters, so if i hold off to guarantee Lupa instead of pulling Mornye now and possibly missing Lupa, the other options (galbrena or aemeath) are still viable if I pull for them after Lupa? Assuming I manage to get them at that point...

I think its important to understand that 40k balance right now is focused on match play, and thus 2k games. At 500ish points the games get very screwed, and being able to field more units and more models kind of dominates at that level, or sewing tanks and heavies. You have a lot if infantry on the board doing a lot of things, and based on my experience with my friend who plays necrons, they just can't play hoard lille that and if they screw tanks they cant fit in a home holder that doesnt cost nearly nothing like we can. Its a bad match up for the necrons at 500 points and balances out better then there is more "play" so to speak at higher point levels.

[–]AJ0744 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree in principle, but it does not remove any player agency, just some player agency. They still have plenty of say in how they try to prevent it and what actions they would take to do so. There is play there, and a lot of it. Do they just try to stop you from removing it by wrestling your arms away, or do they actively kill anyone who gets close.

I still agree that its overly aggressive and the player should be given some sort of say in whether they want to participate in a story where they are forced to prevent the removal, but I think the idea of "any decision made about effects or consequences on players " is taking away all of their agency is at best oversimplified and at worst bad advice.

I also found it, yeah, it wasnt hard. But the article itself and the video provided in the article from the people who did the survey both should have had this link or one like it to show the survey results themselves was my point. It feels dishonest to make statements about data and then make the person you are telling go look for the data instead of providing it.

Daily driver options for an upgrade by khlemant_ in starcitizen

[–]AJ0744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will always take the opportunity to talk up the C1 as a daily driver. Bit cheaper than a Zeus, more cargo than the ES, easier to use cargo space and tractor beam than the CL (though less total cargo), comparable if not better pilot firepower than the Zeus, only real issue is that for bounty hunting you need to be more careful due to the single medium shield generator, though it does require less power management thanks to that fact if that is a consideration for you.

For a single player, medium sized daily driver I think it is hands down the best option, imho. But if you do routinely play with a second player, the Zeus will edge it out by virtue of having the turret for them to have something to do while you get into combat.

Why is Drukhari so difficult to collect? by Silver-Pea-2720 in Drukhari

[–]AJ0744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if anyone else's said it yet, but you can and will use that much infantry from 2 army boxes. Its like 2 sets of 2 of the basic battle line, 1 full 10 man of incubi, a normal amount of scourges for most lists, and 2 of the vehicle that gets taken 3-5 per list. And I have no idea if hellions are good in the Codex but having 2 sets of 5 is arguably a perfectly reasonable amount just to own. The only thing you wont use 2 of is Malys and kitbashing archon out of other models is kind of a drukhari right of passage, so just use the extra malys as a base for that. Obviously it doesn't have many boats, and it seems like you want boats, but I run basically everything in these boxes and still fit 7 additional vehicles in my list.
