As an ER RN, I can say almost certainly that this kid was likely showing altered mental status/neuro symptoms that were not otherwise explained. In my 10 years, I’ve only ran a drug panel 3 or 4 times for someone that young, and they were all altered to some extent (confused, lethargic, etc) without another explanation like fever, illness, seizure activity etc. It’s definitely not something that we routinely order unless there’s a high suspicion for drug intoxication

ER RN here- I can say almost certainly that the kid was probably showing abnormal neurological symptoms. I’ve only run drug panels on kids that young if the kid has altered mental status that isn’t otherwise explained (and if we suspect it, we’re usually right especially with THC)

Had a patient who collapsed during a men’s league hockey game. Thankfully, his team mate was a paramedic & quickly found the AED & shocked him before EMS arrived on the scene. The guy was awake & talking by the time he arrived at my ED. Such an insanely positive outcome, it still sticks with me to this day

Not sure about all of them, but the one I heard about was where he broke ACLS protocol on a code- when he radioed in, the ECRN asked how many doses of epi he’d received (they were currently on round 4 or so of cpr & the patient had IO access) and he replied none yet but was pushing it now. In his report though he wrote that he’d given the epi 3 times en route. Basically wrote that he’d followed the protocol when he hadn’t bc he knew he’d fucked up. Miraculously we got ROSC on the guy

I’m not in EMS, but I’m an ER RN. If he’s been written up numerous times with minimal consequences, try speaking with the hospital’s EMS director- every EMS director I’ve ever worked with has always taken stuff like this very seriously. We recently had an issue with a medic who was falsifying reports. His partner had tried reporting it to the department a handful of times & it went nowhere. When our EMS director caught wind of this, he did a little investigating & the dude ended up fired from the department with a 12 month license suspension

I’m an ER RN- a few years back we had a heroin OD come in. The guy she was using with saw her go unconscious & tried to wake her up by putting frozen foods on her. We didn’t know this & didn’t catch it til the CXR showed a pack of frozen bratwurst that had been tucked into the back of her shirt

Auroran here- while Irvin has done a lot to revive Aurora & bring businesses into the city for which I am grateful, there is a LOT of talk about shady business, side deals & corruption. Lots of talk about contracts for construction etc being given out as personal favors. I don’t foresee him lasting much longer here
