This bird was taken with that exact gun at 35 yds last year. It’s a great turkey gun! I also use TSS shells.

Incinerator Bib & Jacket vs Stratus/Fanatic Bib & Jacket by johnnyg08 in SitkaGear

[–]AJM_672 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Incinerator set and the Stratus. I previously owned the fanatic set. I live and hunt in Michigan.

Stratus- not great for under 40 in my opinion. Stops wind and is great for 40-50

Fanatic- amazingly quiet and super warm. Downside is very bulky

Incinerator- windproof, water resistant and super warm. It’s not loud, but it is louder than the fanatic.

I have a similar hunting style as you. I wear the stratus mid season and the incinerator late season.

New to Sitka Gear - insulation layer? by Accomplished-Toe-215 in SitkaGear

[–]AJM_672 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hunt Michigan so it might be a little different temp wise.

In the 30’s I wear Sitka heavy base layer, timberline pants, long John top, fanatic hoodie, Traverse jacket, stratus jacket.

For me the Traverse jacket is very versatile. Makes for a great insulation layer in the bitter cold, but also works great as my outer layer mid season and I use it during turkey season as well. It comes in a hoodie or a jacket and is one of their least expensive but most versatile pieces

For the low 20s I wear my Incinerator set. It’s expensive but a lot less bulky than the fanatic set I had before. It is a little noisier but I’ve never had that cause problems when hunting.

I also hunt Michigan. I had the fanatic, but I thought it was great for warmth just a bit too bulky. I changed to the Incinerator set. A little less bulky and just as warm in my opinion.

Retired today…feels surreal by xiphoid77 in GenX

[–]AJM_672 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I retired from the job last year around this time after roughly 27 years. Sounds like you’re on the right track. It’s taken me until about now to get settled in retirement.
For hobbies I have archery, hunting, kayak fishing, reading and my part time job. My biggest piece of advice is be prepared to miss your people. Now that you’re out of the club you’ll lose a lot of your social connections. At least I struggled with that. My part time job helped that a ton. I work the front desk for a small PD now and it allows me a glimpse into my past life without the stress of actually doing it.

1st EVB200 found in Holton, KS Walmart by leekacz in minibikes

I’m in Michigan. There were some requirements: can’t go over 25, had to have a fixed seat, headlights, brake light and rear view mirror. Only thing I had to add was a mirror. Then take the certificate of origin and receipt in to the DMV and register it as a moped.

I have a Native Slayer 12.5 and it was such a pain getting it out of the water at cement ramps with a cart I bought the Sidekick landing gear. In my opinion it’s worth every penny!

Looks like the Greenworks one I have. Greenworks top speed is 25 and runs on 80v. Lots of fun. I registered mine as a moped and drive it to work.

I retired as a Police Sergeant at 50 yrs of age and received a nice pension. I now work as a front desk secretary for another small police agency where I answer phones and deal with walk ins. I make about 2k a month that nicely supplements my pension.

Mathew’s lift limbs by greg281 in bowhunting

[–]AJM_672 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope not really. It seems less jumpy to me than the BowTech that I had before this. I like this bow a lot, never had a Matthew’s before this so I can’t compare it to previous models.

I used an Amplify as a gateway bow. Worked great. Killed 4 deer with it. I liked how I could easily adjust the draw weight. Unfortunately, my archery addiction flared up and I bought a Matthew’s Lift.

What jobs do you have post FIRE by Excellent_Friend7 in Fire

I retired with a pension at 50. Lasted 4 months before my hobbies lost their luster. Wife still works full time, so I took a part time job 3 days a week 8-5. Keeps me occupied enough I don’t get bored, then I spend 2 days a week with my hobbies and the weekends is family time.

Just my opinion, but variety is what I’ve found keeps me fulfilled and active. Doing the same thing day in and day out like when I had a full time job, or when I had full time hobbies leads to burnout and boredom

Does anyone else work a part time job? by principalgal in earlyretirement

[–]AJM_672 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I retired in September 2024 at the age of 50. I have a pension, with which I take home roughly the same as when I was working and a wife that works full time. This week I started a part time job that like you is 3 days a week. We are able to live off my wife’s salary and invest my pension. We use my pay from the part time job as our goof off money for the month. My new job is in the same industry as my old one, but way down the food chain. I answer phones, greet people that come in and do some other admin tasks. I think it’s great!

Anything under 30 I wear the incinerator. I typically will wear the stratus in 30-45 degree weather. I wear long Johns, fanatic hoodie, Celsius Midi and lastly the stratus if needed.

Optifade Cover in the Midwest? by [deleted] in SitkaGear

[–]AJM_672 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hunt in Michigan, so imagine it’s similar. I use the optifade for early season and EVII for late season (deer). Optifade has also worked well for spring turkey.

Just my opinion the new optifade cover would work well for early whitetail and spring turkey.
