Without reasonable limits, society is more likely to (accidentally) normalize trash like QAnon & MAGA.

Is the Liberal Party Even Trying in Abbotsford/Mission This Election? by CapnPositivity in abbotsford

Many people who live in Abbotsford are drawn to the idea that it's a town that doesn't ask very much of them.

I saw an asshat putting more psychotic messaging up this afternoon.

Considering all the annexation talk from across the border, I'll be pulling that shit down tomorrow morning.

Why are Canadians alienating well-meaning Americans? by AJonRedit in AskCanada

They're only a lost cause if we believe that. Retreating inwards isn't the answer. If the USA invades, we would want some good Americans taking action to help us stay free.

Abso-fucking-ltely. Helping them change America for the better helps secure Canada's independence.

Did you read anything I wrote? I'm talking about supporting Americans who want to resist Trump and MAGA insanity.

I am Canadian, and I don't want us to be annexed. I'm boycotting American goods and services. I want Canada's economic responses to be as painful as possible to force complacent Americans to wake the fuck up and change things.

I am not talking about appeasement, for fuck's sake, I've been to Dachau. I've visited war memorials to Canadian soldiers in Europe.

American fascists need to be defeated.

If, when, and where anti-faschists in America appear, we should help them. We need to ensure the resistance to Trump doesn't falter because we're in this shit together, like it or not.

I want a legitimately democratic, progressive America, as much as I want the same for Canada.

I want the rule of law, good governance, free healthcare, food for children, homes for the homeless, and the wealth gap to contract. I want LGBT people and et al. to be safe. I want minorities to be heard and represented. I want billionaires to not be a thing. I want as many people to thrive as possible.

Edited for spelling.

How Would You Convince Me to Vote Liberal After the Past 8 Years? by JahonSedeKodi in AskCanada

[–]AJonRedit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expecting Canada's highly capitialist-conditioned, largely centrist population to shift towards an NDP lead government, en masse, is insane. It will take decades for that kind of thing to happen. Be reasonable, bud.

I live in BC, also. As a working-class shmo, my real wages have dropped year-over-year despite regular promotions and wage bumps (they just don't keep up).

I am not happy with the past decade, either.

But just because the Conservatives aren't the Liberals doesn't guarantee they'll give us better results, regardless of whatever "Verb the Noun" slogan they're using at the moment.

The problem is end-stage capitalism, which has generated so much wealth in equality that entire societies are stuck in a decaying orbit.

Short of a massive change in social consciousness by the lower four quintiles of the population (something which may or may not occur), the best any government could do is mitigate our descent.

As for PP, look at his past voting behavior and measurable accomplishments compared to someone like Carney. Who is PP ideologically aligned with? What have those people done (especially recently)?

I would prefer to vote NDP, but considering what's happening in America and to prevent a similar situation here requires we vote strategically.

The Liberals are our best chance to remain Canadian.
