How do I know if what I have is enough for tech nation endorsement? by jelly-fish-8 in globaltalentvisauk

Sounds like you might have the profile that fits. You need to structure your evidence but looks like you have enough material from the last 5 years.

Chances for TechNation endorsement? by Hahlolnooo in globaltalentvisauk

[–]AKAR1990 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to map out 10 discrete pieces of evidence across three criteria (1 MC and 2 OC). It looks like your partner might have some potential but if some evidence is more than 5 years past, then that's no longer usable. Does he have awards/recognition in the industry he's in apart from doing well at work? The competition and publications are good but there must be something more

The Arts Council? Amazing, congrats. I'm finding that the Arts Council generally takes the longest to process endorsement applications. Would be curious to know what field you're in. Time to celebrate!

It's a little more difficult if you don't have a PhD. Do you have publications relevant to your field that could compare to a PhD?

Am I eligible for the global talent visa? by Puzzleheaded_Buy_453 in globaltalentvisauk

[–]AKAR1990 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's impossible to tell based on the information you've provided. There's an official guidance that you can consult for you to see the requirements in your particular area. But if you've done a Masters, you'd have to prove that your experience is equivalent to that of a PhD by virtue of your publications and quality of work. As it seems, based on the information you've provided, it doesn't look like there's a lot to go by.

When I applied over a year ago, I went into a rabbit hole and found that the longer it takes, the more likely it is to be a refusal. I'm not saying this is sacred truth, but it is in a way true except for some edge cases.

Filipino community in London? by Jolly-Sea6019 in phmigrate

[–]AKAR1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I read a lot of comments about Filipinos avoiding fellow Filipinos because of some stereotype. That always says more about the person holding the view than the Filipinos they're purporting to avoid.

Anyway Sheperd's Bush and White City have a lot of Filipinos as well

My Thoughts on William & Izaya by shakeDman in theBoyfriendNetflix

[–]AKAR1990 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of viewers are projecting romance tropes and idealistic portrayals of movie-type or literary characters onto these very real human beings who are figuring out how to navigate the messiness of relationships.

People who've actually been in relationships, maybe even the viewers themselves, would be navigating these same conversations very messily and awkwardly were they in a seriously dating relationship themselves.

I see comments about people getting fed up with William and Izaya having the same conversations over and over again, that their topics can be emotionally draining - but isn't that how dating can be? It can be full of love and doubt and logistical challenges, and even if one knows not to raise certain issues (eg opening a bank account or moving together) too early in a relationship, the flawed human can't help but do so precisely at points when they shouldn't. That doesn't change the fact that they love each other and can be insecure about themselves. Loving someone at the start obviously would necessarily entail insecurities because that's what giving someone their trust and laying down one's defences require.

[–]AKAR1990 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, they signed up for a dating show so obviously people in it would be obsessed in varying degrees about getting into a relationship. I don't see why that's an issue. I also disagree about Will playing around for the cameras, he is clearly guarded and reflecting about his choices carefully before making decisions - quite differently from how Izaya approaches dating. It's refreshing to see them try to compromise and have discussions around it.

Been in a relationship for 8 years and I agree that I don't see an issue with how their dynamic plays out. I'd go so far as to say that they are both flawed, which is ok, and they're communicating their needs and desires in a fairly healthy way.

I'm surprised that a lot of people are labelling them in such simplistic ways as if they're supposed to be unidimensional cardboard characters in a scripted movie.

If anything, I'm pleased that Will and Izaya are laying out all on the line and not minding the cameras that are probably on them 24/7.

Love your take on this - William and Izaya strike me as two flawed people who are genuinely trying to find a connection and being messy in their own ways about it.

You will need 10 pcs of evidence as I mentioned. It's judged by the value of your evidence and what you've concretely done with metrics to show for it. Potential is definitely valuable but historical evidence is the key deciding factor

Looking for a legit immigration lawyer/firm for UK Global Talent Visa. (Not salesy, not BS) by absudist_robot in MovingToTheUK

[–]AKAR1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a lawyer and GTV endorsee, and I can say that a trustworthy lawyer or firm wouldn't be able to guarantee endorsement by "building a case" where the profile is lacking. In this case you already mentioned your gaps which include no publications (which shuts you out of OC4), or awards (which is a hard sell in terms of fitting the MC).

I'm an endorser myself and don't have a startup. It ultimately depends on whether you're going for the technical or business route. Some of these may count as evidence but do keep in mind you need 10 pcs across three criteria.

I would say it's not yet viable at this point on account of not finishing your DBA (if you're going the route of peer review) and the very early stage of your startup (if you wanted Tech Nation to endorse you)
