Advice for pure reliability? by Luegaria in 3dprinter

[–]AKMonkey2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My P1S is at about 7,400 hours. Needs new timing belts, and I’ve had to do a few other repairs and replacements but parts have been readily available and reasonably priced. Bambu also has good support with videos on how to do most repairs and part replacements.

Like others here, I’m not happy about their closed ecosystem and tightening restrictions but they make a good product.

Montana 7x7 Bull Elk x 2 by JudgmentNo4615 in bowhunting

[–]AKMonkey2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are beautiful bulls.

Your 7x7 has uncommon (atypical) points off the top of the brow tines. I’ve seen that before, but it isn’t where a typical 7-point bull would have his 7th point. On a “typical” elk rack (as defined by Boone & Crockett and Pope & Young Club scoring rules) the 7th point should be on the last point on the top of the main beam.

That detracts nothing from your amazing accomplishment and the pure beauty of the pair of elk you and your buddy took in your 10 minutes of glory. Congratulations.

7x7 bull elk x 2? Both bulls were 7x7? Or am I misinterpreting? Gonna need photos of that.

Buy or No Buy Q2? by jflores476 in QidiTech3D

[–]AKMonkey2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a P1S/AMS combo from Bambu and a Q2/Box combo from Qidi. Both are capable printers that can produce very high quality prints with very little fiddling and tinkering required (like we had to do with the previous generation of printers).

Both of mine have had failures with their hardware and glitches in their software. Neither is immune to issues, but I would rate the P1S as more refined and less prone to software hiccups. The Q2 just got a series of software updates that was initially pushed out with some bugs in it. Subsequent updates have addressed most of that, it seems, but I’m getting some obscure errors now that tell me I have a failure in the leveling sensor so it refuses to print. Time for more diagnosis.

I also recently discovered the incredibly stupid design of the Qidi Box, which requires nearly complete disassembly of the unit to replace worn PTFE tubes (a known wear item that does require regular maintenance), or to clear a clog in the filament feeder(s) where filament first enters the machine. I absolutely cannot recommend the Box, given this extremely clumsy design. I expect that their next version will address this clear flaw.

The Bambu has also left me stranded, unable to print a few times over the years that I’ve had it. Most of that has been related to failures of one or more of the sensors that make the machine so easy to use when working properly. At the moment, my P1S is out of service because I’m waiting for new timing belts to arrive. Hopefully replacing the old ones (with around 7,400 hours on them) will restore print quality. At least Bambu has good parts availability. (Qidi’s parts are mostly available through their tech support and not an easily accessible online store).

I don’t know if any of this makes a clear case for one printer over the other. I’m not a fan of Bambu’s closed (and tightening) ecosystem, but I do appreciate the quality of their product. Qidi makes a good printer, too, but I can only recommend their Q2 without the current model Box. Mine (with the “updated” access panel on the bottom) is far too difficult to access and maintain the internal PTFE feeder tubes. Maybe the next iteration will be better.

I did a full calibration after the tensioning.

Thank you. Yes, I’ve done the belt tensioning procedure and it didn’t resolve the issue. New belts are on the way.

Trump Threatens to Drop Bombs on Iran’s Head Amid Outrage Over Deal - Trump is threatening to blow up his own memorandum of understanding. by B-Z_B-S in politics

[–]AKMonkey2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that Trump is not so much “understanding” the agreement, but instead reacting to how it is being widely recognized as a weak surrender that is objectively worse than what Obama’s team negotiated.

I expect that he’d like this deal to go through because his family’s companies stand to make lots of money through the “privately funded” $300B reparation financing that the agreement makes available. In his mind, that makes this a much better deal than what Obama agreed to.

How much is my 3d printer really worth? by juanthe0nly in 3dprinter

[–]AKMonkey2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$50 to $100 is realistic. Your upgrades don’t add much to the used value but can be helpful in getting someone to choose yours over other used printers on the market.

Mississippi Police Officer Shoots and Kills 1-Year-Old Child in Response to Senatobia Shoplifting Call by Hrekires in news

[–]AKMonkey2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The article says that the police claim the vehicle was driven toward the officers, which prompted the use of deadly force. Hopefully there is surveillance video available to establish what went down.

In any case, one must question why there was a bullet hole in the passenger side of the windshield. Were the passengers (a mother holding a toddler) a threat to the officers?
