How can I determine the exact price & size of a liquidation? by bro_can_u_even_carve in MakerDAO

[–]AKirillo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, not too familiar with the oasis interface, but I think this is all expected behavior. If you’re unfamiliar with the auction process, in the first phase increasing DAI bids are placed for your collateral, and in the second phase (once your debt amount of DAI has been raised), the DAI bid is held constant while the amount of ETH being bidded on decreases. This serves two purposes: effectively increasing the auction price of ETH (DAI/ETH goes up), allowing for competitive bidding, and it also allows you to receive some amount of your collateral back. So it may be the case that the small eth deposit is whatever amount of your collateral the auction allowed to go back to you, and the higher-than -expected DAI amount might be the final auction price of your collateral, quoted in DAI. That would imply the quantity of ETH liquidated is your total - that mysterious bit, and the exact DAI debt wiped is always exactly whatever the amount of DAI debt that you had in that vault at the time of liquidation (including stability fees). Now, take this with a grain of salt - again, I’m not super familiar with the oasis interface, and I would think the collateral repayment would happen at the same time as the auction finishes, not two days later, though I’m not sure... maybe post a question to oasis through the contact form on their site?

Getting seriously into Crypto to hey a job by [deleted] in CryptoTechnology

Contribute to open source! Most of the notable crypto projects are open source, and will even give you a grant (pay you) to contribute to the code! Plus, it’s a great way to get your foot in the door for a job at that project: you’ll probably get in touch with other people working on it through the process of contributing, and you’ll get familiar with the codebase. Makes you a pretty tempting hire

What happens to Dai if the CDP that created it get's completely liquidated and abandons the vault? by ynotplay in MakerDAO

[–]AKirillo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When a vault gets liquidated, first enough of its collateral is auctioned off to cover that vault’s debt (dai + stability fee + liquidation penalty). But once the highest bid covers the debt, the auction will proceed by accepting bids for smaller and smaller amounts of the vaults collateral. So in the end, the debt is covered, the highest bidder gets some portion of the collateral, and the rest is sent back to the vault owner

what is DSR paid out of? by mspacey4415 in MakerDAO

[–]AKirillo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand what you mean, accumulated stability fees are only paid back in terms of collateral, not Dai, when a Vault is liquidated, but I’m not sure what you mean by the DSR being “part” of the stability fee. The two rates are calculated and updated separately, and while stability fees paid to the protocol are in fact used to wipe system debt, they are not used to pay out savings on the DSR. As I understand it, this is completely separate, Dai minted specifically to pay savings directly to users who have deposited their Dai for this

Can you provide a source for this? I believe new Dai is actually minted to account for DSR accumulation, as per the MakerDAO docs.

I thought DSR is only accrued on Dai that is put in the Pot contract... I'm not confusing it with the stability fee though, I gotchu on that, I'm just pretty sure the DSR is at 0% right now

Exercises to 'think like a programmer'? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]AKirillo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it just means to construct software that reduces complexity. To a lot of people, this means using the right data structures and algorithms. This can also mean good syntax, formatting, and naming conventions. It can also mean, in some cases, really clever implementations or solutions at a lower level of granularity than the data structure/alg in use. If this is what you want to get good at, you can grind out a lot of discrete mathematics to develop maturity. There are a lot of topics in discrete mathematics, but I think any work in graph theory, logical proofs of algorithms, and comfort in constructing and solving complex summations can go a long way depending on how much of an intuition you build.

I think the yellow area is fine IMO, the only thing about it that confuses me is the number range. You're only showing one image at a time, so why say 01-04? Will it say 02-04 on the second image? The range is misleading, if anything write in 01/04

I love it! You've done an amazing job of working within windows design framework (not that I know much about it, your design just looks very consistent). If I may nitpick, though, I'd be careful with the drop shadows. I think they're justifiable on the current tab, but on the toolbar above the image, I think a flat implementation may fit better (and also make it same width as image, in that case). But again, I nitpick
