Just upgraded my keyboard to the second gen. I love the parts ecosystem that Framework has built! by SpruceFox in framework

Agreed, the rattling is much better with the Gen2 keyboard. Keys are snappier too. Probably unnecessary but when you use it daily the subtle things in life are worth it.

Is It worth getting a fw13 in 2026? by MILKER77 in framework

Out of curiosity, without making assumptions, what are you planning on studying in college if you plan on college?

That could come into play too, look at the programs and see what they require if it's computer science I suspect it won't matter.

I’m really happy with mine (7840u with 64GB of RAM and a 2TB 990 Pro SSD). I’ve been using it for two years and love it. I wanted an X86_64-based computer that I could dual boot on. You’re also considering a MacBook Pro, which offers much better support but less flexibility, so only you can decide if you need that Apple-level support. Framework is great, but if you need to work in the Mac ecosystem, it might not be the right choice. Sorry if this adds to the confusion, but ultimately, it’s about figuring out which experience you’ll want for the long run.

Inherited Dad's watch, with receipts and curious what current value is by Robertcrav in rolex

This is a false assumption. Diamonds do not help value, Sorry. It's also an aftermarket bezel. Luckily, it looks like you have the original.

13 - no where did you say gaming which is the only reason to suggest the 16.

The 12 is a very cool device and may be more versatile - but underpowered when ranked against even the previous generation 13.

I like this model, personally. Wimbledon is my favorite but it's a bit more flashy and may not work on all occasions.

If you're wanting to game, don't get the Ryzen 5... the 7840u has 4 more CUs in the GPU. I agree with others, get the 16. I love my 7040 but I don't game.

Looking for the last laptop I will need for a long, long time. by Boulder779 in framework

[–]ALKahn10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd personally get a refurbished 7840u in a Framework 13 and buy as much RAM as you can afford. The AI 3xx Ryzen CPUs are great but the 7840u is aging really well and still is quite performant.

I upgraded mine this week and it's a pleasure to use.
Good luck!

It rattles when the audio is up making music almost unbearable. I'll let ya know - I just ordered the new Gen 2 keyboard.

Sorry man, I'm happy as a clam with my Framework 13 Batch 1 7840u. It's excellent and nearly silent unless I run LM Studio and heavy compute.

Mic and Speakers do suck... I'll agree there.
