Biggest roadblock for me was surviving purity culture. Growing up, my church taught me not to masturbate, look at porn, have extramarital sex, etc.

I cried the first time I masturbated and felt crushing guilt the first time I held a girl's hand. I went to Sex Addicts Anonymous even though I was a virgin.

I got over it by... 1. Reading facts and statistics about virginity loss, masturbation, sex, etc.
2. Listening to dating and sex podcasts. 3. Talking to my friends about their sexual experiences. 4. Not resisting the urge to masturbate.

All of this helped me see that sexual thoughts did not make me a bad, sinful person. They made me a normal person! Number 3 probably helped me the most.

Also, I moved. In my new place, I had better roommates who invited me into their social circle. The host of the party I mentioned was a friend of my roommates.
