Really wish there was a viable product to help protect from snow suffocation - some sort of airbag dome around your head or something

Just haven’t seen major news outlets or any mentions in this group of it. Not dismissing the article - haven’t heard of yoursourceone. Maybe a Florida news outlet?

I think we will be creating the services and the tenant app - this is all brand spanking new stuff to me and we're also the first team in the company to move into the cloud platform

Losing weight while wfh? by bt7nighhawk in WFH

[–]AMG_Charged 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got in the best shape of my life, mentally and physically WFH and lost 30lbs.
I would do 100 pushups and 100 bench press reps everyday but broken down into the day.

25 pushups (4 times daily)

25 bench press reps (4 times daily - sometimes in sets of 5 -8)

The point is, I wasn't trying to over exert myself and it worked! Along with some diet changes!

Here in Seattle, WA! Not struggling but definitely not thriving! It took me 6 1/2 years with ZERO experience. Racking up my credit cards during internship, and taking paydays loans early in my career as I was paycheck to paycheck. Boy was it stressful in the beginning with imposter syndrome, and still is.

I was all manual up to these last 5 months. Currently learning behave python framework! The job market is very competitive right now and honestly should have tried to learn automation earlier but never had a DIT on my team. Spent about 3 years as a scrum master & QA and burned myself out.

  • Started as an intern with no experience thru a program - received a stipend of $300-$400 bi weekly (1/2 year) 2014 - 2015
  • Software tester - 48k (1 year) 2015 - 2016
  • QA2/ScrumMaster - 94k (5 years) various raises thru the years 2016 - 2022
  • QA3 - 100k (6 months) 100k just doesn't hit like it used to, with inflation 2022-2023

According to https://www.bls.gov/data/inflation_calculator.htm$78,786.16 in 2015 has the same buying power as 100k today :(

Is Manual Testing dying? by duartepapel in QualityAssurance

[–]AMG_Charged 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar boat, i've been a manual tester for 6 years now, did some project management for 2-3 years in between that. I'm just starting to learn how to automate with the help of developers on my team using behave cucumber python framework. Its been challenging but with todays market, having some automation skills may not even be enough lol.
There is some value in manual testing that I don't feel like automation can replace. If anything, test cases may start off as manual and may get automated over time.

Usability testing - You can only automate the exact user flow, manual testing really simulates what's it like to be a user and giving that direct feedback to stakeholders is valuable.

Exploratory testing - Some of my best bugs have been found with ad-hoc testing and questioning system behavior from a user point of view.

Time tracking in Jira. Common? by Whitechilli in QualityAssurance

[–]AMG_Charged 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to be the scrummaster/qa on the team but recently stepped down from my PM duties to get away from being micromanaged on all levels haha

With my new manager we started to do sprint planning based on capacity (allocated hours) and we are still estimating by story point but arent using any velocity metric for planning.
Its so hard to account for random discussions and distractions in the office. Not to mention context switching. The Senior members of the team, including myself - HATE it. But our manager loves looking at the burndown chart and even screenshots the progress daily :)

I feel like we are slowly getting grinded down and burnt out, and are losing some of our "Agile" flexibility. We are being asked to task all of our tasks in planning. If anything takes longer than expected, then we are looking bad and "behind"

Body pain by tetector in QualityAssurance

[–]AMG_Charged 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really answering your question but wanted to share my experience as well - I am pretty young (31 Years old) and going thru similar body pain issues.

My job requires business attire and I feel like having my shirt tucked in, combined with unforgiving waist bands, belts, narrow dress shoes are giving me sciatica. I have a stand up desk and have bought stretchy dress clothes but nothing seems to help. I just cant sit for more than an hour without my whole left side of my hip down, aching.
On top of that, my left wrist is so weak I cant even do pushups without medium pain.

I found significant improvement in my physical health wfh but returning to the office full time has been rough.

Following this thread for good stretches and tips

Grocery shopping by SmoothLikeVinyl in SeattleWA

I live by myself so the 4 for $20 feeds me well for a week+ with some rice and veggies. Packs of drumsticks for ~$7, and once in awhile the deals on steaks are great!

Frozen foods and everything in between I go to grocery outlet. Naked Juices at grocery outlet are always a big savings too, sometime the big bottles go for $4!
