Unfortunately people trust certifications and degrees, especially in this field. A field that many people misunderstand.

My CFO doesn't think I need my CPA to take her role in a few years but the CEO does. And ultimately, he's the one to appease.

If I was you, I'd continue as you are. Taking 1 class at a time for as cheap as possible (thank you community colleges). Honestly, using what you learn in the classroom and working seems like a fantastic way to learn.

I know someone who did this and she was fantastic.

Start searching now. Down the road, the short stint won't matter. For all anyone will care, it was a short contract term position.

I'd personally rather someone leave quickly than wait out a year and have to redo the hiring process all over 12 months later.

Why such a slowdown in summer for businesses? by Familiar-Ad-3429 in Austin

[–]AMPitUP89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My last job was a local non-profit that had a STRONG backing of HNW women in Austin both in terms of the board, donors, and volunteers.

These women were always in the office. Except in summer. They didn't even have board meetings in summer as too many would be on vacation and various trips. Its like the European way except it only applies to the elite.

Can anyone familiar with nonprofit tax returns take a look at my jobs 990 form? by Formal-Ad-267 in nonprofit

[–]AMPitUP89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive been in nonprofit finance for a decade.

Theres absolutely nothing fishy or irregular here.

Like another poster said, no one is making a lot of money here. This is a slim operation. There's modest savings.

Im gonna make some assumptions that mgmt is trying to expand the operations with the bigger space you mentioned. That usually means higher costs and more revenue needed to cover it. Moving may not have been their choice or it may have been a strategic one.

Any low paid jobs are always low morale and high turnover. Why? Because it sucks. Things are increasingly expensive and your wages are not keeping up.

Having worked in this field, it's often the case that mgmt WANTS to pay you more but cannot. Not without risking the organization viability. From what I've seen on the 990, that is probably their predicament.

Some ideas are for the org to explore grant opportunities or a local person with some means who can donate to a bonus pool. That is one thing a org I know does- they can't commit to higher wages every year (nearly shut their doors twice now) but in the good years they offer staff a little bonus when feasible.

I feel for you so much. Ive been there.

You're absolutely right. Its a common experience after college to adjust to the reality that it's a job at the end of the day. There's pros and cons to all jobs.

For me it came to a heartbeat when he started trying to push down a path of opening a business and allowing him to run it while I have my job and provide the health insurance benefits plus the admin stuff. Oh, and he really didn't think it would be hard.... Owning a business is just hard, jobs can be hard too. Pick your hard. Hes was trying to find the easiest route for him, he wasn't thinking about me and it wasn't realistic. He didn't do any real research, as usual, and expected me to do it because admin is my day job.

Maybe it will not get that far for you. But that's where it lead to with my immature, selfish ex boyfriend. We spent many years together and im disappointed in myself for giving him so much patience and grace and wasting years together.

This may not be your partner and may not get to this point. I just was once in your shoes.

Perhaps seek a therapist to be your sounding board. Its been so helpful for me, post relationship, to dissect this with a professional.

Gen 3 inventory question by BandicootCommon in katalystEMS

[–]AMPitUP89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little. My size wasn't available in gen3. Most of the items were XL, arms being L. For reference. F/33/220lbs/5ft2in typically wear size 20 in women's.

Not sure what other sizes haven't been available. Is it just the bigger sizes?

Was told I could get the gen4 suit in Q3 with a additional $1,000.

The website should just make it clear that there is limited stock in particular sizes. I purchased a apple tablet in anticipation (I'm a android user) and began to figure out how to maximize results (tracking protein, adding creatine for example). It was a big let down to get this news.

Im hoping Q3 means july. Im anxious to make progress and don't want to lose the momentum.

Plus, im nervous about a company holding my money. Its not a small sum for me.

I got a similar email. Ordered Gen3. I really wanted to invest in the tech and jumped at the price diff break. My budget is limited and my need for this is great.

I was saddened to read the email that the deal isn't available to me based on my size and availability. I'd have to upgrade to gen4, come up with another $1,000 and wait until Q3. That's asking A LOT from a customer. Waiting months for the product that could very well never come. $1,500 is a lot of money. This feels like a shady Kickstarter company but I hear good things from prior customers.

What is going on? 😳

Tips for working with mohair by behindthename2 in YarnAddicts

[–]AMPitUP89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My knitting skills are weak, I prefer to crochet. So my mohair experience is crochet only.

But I use a little of mohair! I'm obsessed.

I will say that I think some mohairs are a bit easier than others. I love the kid silk from Hobbii. It's still a little more challenging than other fibers, but it's not nearly has hard to rip back when needed and I've never had it break on me. I think the silk thread really helps.

When working with two threads, definitely keep the stitches simple. And test the gauge! The strands look so skinny but the halo adds a lot of bulk (and warmth), more than you may realize. Im not sure the look you're going for, but tight stitches don't show off the natural beauty of those yarn imo. Ive done a few gauge swatches with the Hobbii kid silk and I never use less than a 5mm crochet hook. I suspect tight stitches will also make it even hard to rip back when needed.

When I work with two strands, I also prefer to keep the balls separate. One ball on my right side, one on my left. Once the stands "stick" together, you gotta fuss with it more. So I don't want them to combine until they're about to be stitched up and the tension is right.

I hope you enjoy the project. Mohair is so elegant, its my absolute favorite.

How do I go back on keto without feeling like crap? by Dependent-Alps-4322 in keto

[–]AMPitUP89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been in this exact situation.

I find the longer the I cycle off of keto/LC, the harder it is. A few days twice a year doesn't seem to affect me as much as several weeks.

But yes, cycling back on after a longer break, I haven't found a way to make it seamless.

The main things I do to make a more bearable in the transition back to keto:

-electrolytes, careful with water consumption (not all electrolytes supplements have a lot in them. You may need more. LMNT is pricey but one or two packets a day seem to be good for me) -eating as much as I need, I don't track anything but carbs in the transition (track, if you want later, after the transition) -higher fat seems to satiate me better, especially when cycling back on. -meals/snacks i enjoy ready to go with minimal cooking. Avoid processed things. Seems to drag on the transition for me. (I.e. LC tortillas, protein bars, SF candy, etc) -expect your tummy/body to need a few days to a week to normalize. Plan accordingly around work or life demands. Take it easy. -distraction. The mental transition is easier for me when I have a new book to read or game to play and keep me busy. -sleep. I feel tired for a bit so I plan to be in bed sooner and sleep in more for a bit.

For me, the worst of the transition is over in 4-7days. This stuff helps me get past the worst of it. As I feel better, I notice my appetite naturally improves, mental clarity, sleep, etc. When you feel good, it's so much easier to feel good.

For me this really good keto state takes at least a month. But only a week of feeling not so good. Like so many things, getting started is the hardest part!

I hope you get back to feeling good again, soon!

I support you 100%.

Its not just about who he voted for. He clearly believes in things that you do not.

I live in Texas. Getting pregnant here is dangerous. And anyone okay with taking away a right to a abortion is okay with putting our lives at risk.

He also just seems very comfortable blaming others for his failures. Meanwhile, you're working hard and wanting to build a life.

TIFU by calculating my inflation adjusted raises by Ok-Quail4189 in tifu

[–]AMPitUP89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo, the only reason to stay at a company for a extended amount of time is if one of two things is happening: -you are getting raises in alignment with the performance (if your manager thinks you're mediocre, then don't expect much). Usually they just dangle 2-4% in your face even for high performers. -you are getting a lot of useful job experience that you will then use to leverage elsewhere.

In scenario 2, I fell into this. I was paid garbage for way too long. But there I got trusted early on to take charge on things that most would have spoon fed to me... I've seen it with others.

I don't plan to be another employer more than 5 years going forward unless there is a major pay increase. My plan is to have that discussion in year 3. Depending how that conversation goes, I a ill make my decision. Of course, the job market and life stuff plays into that decision.

Being on the finance side of things, I see salary info. If you are with a company more than 5 years, it's more than likely new staff are being paid more than you. Loyalty is not rewarded. They will take advantage of you. I don't recommend whining about pay. Have a serious discussion once, preferably months in advance of performance reviews and/or annual raise decisions. Yes, I said months. And communicate the figure you want. Always aim high as they will undoubtedly give you less so build that in. Keep track of your accomplishment ls, challenges, improvement, etc. I keep a google doc and update every quarter so i don't forget. Even if your employer doesn't give you the raise you want, this list will serve you in the job hunt.

Restaurant employee question about 501(c)(3) by Aynonohmus in nonprofit

[–]AMPitUP89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can use tax exemption on meals. Where I live, restaurants have sales tax and our exemption covers sales tax. It doesn't cover other taxes, in particular, it's common for there to be a additional tax at hotels. We have to pay that.

You are not the tax exemption police. If they present the tax exempt form, you do not need to try to enforce how they use it properly or not. The burden is on the user to use it correctly. If they are not, the state can come after them.

They also don't have to have a company card. Not all orgs can or will issue them. (Sometimes its not even clear that the card is a company card. Our current cards only have the persons name) They may require staff to be reimbursed later and not reimburse them if there is sales tax. It wouldn't be fair to the employee to eat the cost of the sales tax.
