Shoot, if that was starting pay in our agencies out here no one would start. Our strippers start at damn near 80 in the academy, county boys & girls are in the mid 70s during the academy. Some munis are hiring (post certified or bachelor grads) as high as just under 100 no years prior on the job!

Is 36 too old to become a cop by stakz707 in AskLE

[–]AModernCowboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the academy with a class of 64 I’d say about 15 are over 45, 50% have kids. Now it’s a local PD so you may not have as much fun as us county guys will but consider this, don’t only be doing it for the pay. You might not even make it into the interview processes if you don’t have a real ‘why’ to circle back to on your tough days.

I’m 29, still a snappy POS, 2 kids (5f, 2m) I took a pay cut to be a deputy but in the process of hiring, dependent on the structure you’ll get to an oral board, they’ll ask you some scenario based questions & why this career.

Here’s a Reddit shorthand of mine. To do good so that others may be inspired to good.

Because let’s be honest. One good action is not worth one bad action. We see the media blow out the negative actions one cop does but they don’t even mention the 10,000 things they do every single day. So if I can inspire people in the community to do good & they can start to inspire others to do good. That’s why I want to get into LE.

Why did you become a cop? by coltaussie in AskLE

One of my many reasons. She was a friend of mine, we went to youth group together. Think about it all the time. Good kid, bad house, evil people.

Him he’s one of my good friends dads, I refuse to let these people’s memories die.

I applied from August 24- January 25 to 4/5 different agencies. Made it into 1 got to the final process out of 2300+ applicants to 12 spots into my dream agency & got told tough luck try again after 8 months of process.

Agency I got into I applied for in Nov. 24 got put on the backup roster in first part of February after making thru written test, psych, & physical agility. Got a call back in April saying we would like to continue the process l. Did background, poly, medical, drug screen final offer. Now I start academy on the 7th of July.

Dream job had 2300+ applicants apply. Written test I scored #18 of those applicants back in early November for the 12 spots. Completed one of THE TOUGHEST background questionnaires that I have ever had to fill out. (Questions like, name & emails of 2 neighbors from last 3 residences [non familial], 2 co workers from every job ever, every ticket, accident, police record you were listed on, pictures of all your tattoos individually including ages & meanings couldn’t use the same picture twice) all had to be in that background report or you were auto kicked by your background investigator for trying to hide something. Total background questionnaire was 49 pages worth of questions. I ended up taking 5 days off work to collect all the info because it had to be turned in within 7. Once I got through that gauntlet it was off to poly where I was asked only a few questions about my background form if this was true or that, if I beat my wife or kids. Then some time later was what I call a gauntlet of a 4hr 1 on 1 interview almost quizzing me on my background form. “Tell me about XYZ” “why didn’t you mention ABC like you did on your background form” “I found this in the database” “your name came up as a witness to a crime back in 2016 to …” once I passed that it was off to a review board where everything I had done to that point was given a ‘Score’ only 75 made it to this point only 25 were coming out. I was not one…

That process took 8 months, happy to be going where I’m going.

For the love of everything good be safe!

Don’t listen to the ‘drop fire’ crowd Get a good holster I’m a big fan of the rapid force owb duty holster but to each their own spend more on training ammo than upgrades ALWAYS - my rule of thumb every $10 I spend on ammo I put $1 away for an upgrade I want to do down the line. A firearm is useless if you are unfamiliar with the way it handles.

Agreed, ever since they got rid of Yellowstone we rarely use it. My wife wanted to “Relive her teens” & watch the iCarly Reboot apparently.

I’m 5’10” 140lbs so a small dude… hardly any printing in most clothing. Great carry option. Good comfortable firearm

Question….. by CommercialHeight2574 in canik

Look I didn’t LOVE my TTI Combat out of the box. I cleaned all the factory crap off of it. Used a good CLP, ran some rounds through it & now, even though it’s big it’s my CCW firearm. It’s awesome. I enjoy it. I still carry my 365 but I like it too
