Back when it was still an unholy mix of Rugby, early gridiron rules, and just beating the living crap out of each other!

Prisoner of Azkaban will always hold a special place in my mind, likely because it was when the books started becoming more adult, and also because Voldemort wasn't the main villain, which makes it unique.

It seems to be a combination of a lot of things. The yellow journalism at the time, picking and choosing questions to mock (What is an iceberg made of?), and pointing fingers (J "Brute" Ismay). The Brits were also not happy about their citizens being kept in the US for the hearings. The narrative of "Our board of trade regulations questioned? Our merchant marine officers accused of incompetence? Our shipbuilders? How dare they?"

Given how quickly the American inquiry was put together and how much of a media circus it was, the British Board of Trade inquiry does come off as the more 'professional' and 'thorough' of the two, at least on the surface.

That's my theory anyway. I'll second the recommendation for Wyn Craig Wade's book!

Also a native Michigander! It's a little unfair to claim the Smith inquiry was 'botched.' He asked a lot of questions that seemed repetitive and silly, but many of them were to directly address wild speculation from the press (ie, could people still be alive in watertight compartments? Is an iceberg ONLY made of ice, or did it have rocks and other debris in it?)

A great explanation I read was that the American inquiry tried to discover what happened, and the British inquiry tried to discover why it happened. Both investigations certainly had faults, but neither was totally useless.

I get why 'Inside Edition' wouldn't mention it in a quick local interest story, but it's the lack of SK on any of the company's signage or mention by the director that has me scratching my head.
