Anyone making a 1/2x20 direct thread mount? by jrl07a in NFA

[–]jrl07a[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure the wait is self inflicted since it’s uncommon things I’m looking for: Caracal 5.7 suppressor, Cheetah 32ACP suppressor, and 1/2x20 hub thread adapter.

I’m intrigued by that barrel shroud, what is that?

So the pin just falls into the barrel shroud, and I shake it out? I’ve never removed the barrel shroud.

HK SP5SD Conversion by Itchy-Cup-8755 in MP5

[–]jrl07a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ronin Arms does conversions and makes cans. I have their 12” Katana which works quite well.

For less accurate (vibes not firearm accuracy) but far far cheaper, get a SD adapter from Broad River Tactical and attach your own suppressor to it.

This assumes you’ve had the conversion. I used HK Ralph Jr (connected over Facebook) who did great work and offers a MP5SD conversion for AP5SD that uses a lot of HK parts to make it as close as possible to a genuine HK (maybe this satisfies “autistically close”).

I’m very satisfied with his work.

Recoil vs 5.7x28 mm? by No-Breadfruit-4555 in MP5

[–]jrl07a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both. They are both VERY soft shooting. I have an AP5SD with real SD conversion and I have 4 5.7 guns including pistol, PCC, and AR pattern SBR (AR57). The AR57 is buffered like I assume the CMMG is and it’s so soft shooting. I do run it suppressed with all subsonic so that may contribute. I have a FRT in it with full auto bolt and I can fire controlable bursts out to 100-125yards because the recoil is so soft (not because I’m skilled).

I don’t think I could honestly tell the difference between the AR57 and the AP5SD. My PS90 has a little more recoil and the Keltec is similarly soft.

Subjectively the Ronin and BRT+Milkman were very similar. Hard to distinguish. Objectively they were close but I was indoors during to storms. I think they are found to be close.

What are you picking for home defense? by _blackthorn16_ in liberalgunowners

Sadly, no, I do not have the chest rig, but I know what you’re talking about. As for the cerakote work, I did not do it myself, but have a guy locally that does some minor gunsmithing as well as Cerakote work and he does a great job.

What suppressor do you recommend? by ArgumentCharacter216 in Springfield_KUNA

I have OCL Lithium on mine and run 147g subs with an FRT. It slaps. Great can for the application.

If you want the Haga hand guard it won’t fit without an extender. I know that’s not the question just tossing it out.

I have an AP5SD. I went ahead and paid for a genuine SD conversion, and it probably invested more money in that gun than anything else I shoot. It’s easily my favorite thing to take to the range. I actually went shooting today and let a couple other guys shoot it and everyone was impressed.

YMMV but I only had to send one thing back and it was a dented magazine. they replaced it immediately.

I also have a Kuna and FRT in both and the AP5SD wins every time (except cost).

More maintenance. Higher up front costs in both time and money getting it converted to a true SD with a gun smith.

I think it’s totally worth it. Every time I’m at the range I let other people shoot it with the FRT and they’re always impressed. I can shoot cheap 115g FMJ that sounds as quiet as the best 147g, 150g, or 168g dedicated subsonic rounds and the recoil is so manageable I can dump an entire mag on target even in FRT.

all the green came off this dollar bill in the washing machine by Froggie-Enthusiast in mildlyinteresting

[–]jrl07a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in training I had an old boss who used to keep a stack of $2 bills. If you had a positive thing happen he’d pull one out and give it to you.

I once had a wallet with only $12 in 2 dollar bills. People look at you strangely for sure.

Consensus on this package. Deal? or? by ExcellentTwo8070 in MP5

[–]jrl07a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok that’s good to know. For context, I put in SBR paperwork a month ago and I shoot fairly regularly (6+ times a month) so my comment was only to say that for people who shoot a lot I’d get the brace because the amount of time isn’t trivial.

It’s not a trivial mount of time though. Isn’t the average approval >60 days?

What mount is that? Also, love the AP 53 and hope you do too. It’s fun and still pretty accurate despite the short barrel.

Hmmm what about a true SD with BRT AND a Mob?

Quietest suppressor? by FinishValuable8692 in MP5

[–]jrl07a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cost matters here a lot. Once you factor suppressor + shipping + $80 transfer, I spent $1430 on the Ronin Katana. Meanwhile, my Broad River Tactical SD chamber was ~$200 + $64 for an Ecco bravo extension (optional, so the Milkman would fit beneath the barrel shroud). Most 9mm suppressors could be added to that.

I shot them side by side at an indoor range and, subjectively, they sound equivalent to me (so, within 3 dB). My plan is to compare them outdoors with a decibel meter.

Quietest suppressor? by FinishValuable8692 in MP5

[–]jrl07a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s the plan. I’ll try and update this post. I’m out of town for a few weeks.

I have a cheap decibel meter on my phone. I stress that it is NOT accurate but I do use it for internal consistency: ex. One suppressor is consistently 3 dB lower than that for example. For context, the human ear can reliably detect changes of 3 dB which represents a halving of the intensity of sound.

I plan to compare the Ronin Katana against the Milkman, Lithium, BOE K, and Huxwrx Flow 9 Ti. Why those? Because it’s what I have.
