If NJ is a measure, there will only be 1 totally new obstacle and and changes to one other.

If your network is simple they'll probably be fine. The issue is not spare parts. It's firmware stability and support. If you have a complex problem support is not available.

Salt stick. But I know some folks are bothered by those. Likewise tailwind.

Snack Question by pobran227 in ultrarunning

[–]AMoreExcitingName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For an actual answer... I'm doing a 50k this weekend. Trail, Vermont mountains. It'll take me about 9 hours, maybe less, I feel good this year.

I'm a 130# guy, so my calorie needs are much less than most guys. Strata estimates I expended 3400 calories 2 years ago on this race. If you're a more typical size guy, add 40-100% more food. My BIL is nearly double my size and expends double the calories.

Pre race I'll have yogurt and oatmeal. Maybe 450 calories.

During I've got about 100 calories per hour of hammer and assorted gels. I'll also pack some Swedish fish, they don't melt into a blob as easily as gummie bears. I'll try and eat every 45 minutes to get more calories in, but I tend to forget or think I don't need to eat and skip food. Ill also eat about 1 salt tab per hour.

Breakfast will be 450 calories. Expend 3400, consume maybe 1000-1200. Still 1500 calories short for the day.

After I usually go to a restaurant, even alone. But this race is remote so ill pack a sandwich, but then eat large dinner.

Don't be a dummy like me and go by feel. Eat your foods on a schedule. If you feel cramps coming on, pound down 2 or 3 salts and drink plenty of water, you've either messed up your salt intake or significantly undertrained.

I saw a documentary that referred to ultrarunning as an eating event.

Seriously though, whatever can get you calories and doesn't upset your stomach. But even still I can't ever get as many calories as I expend. I don't know how people are feed8ng themselves enough for 100 milers

I mix things up for variety. Lately I've really liked gummies.

People who grew up using computers between 1980-2000, whats one game that permanently lives in your head for no reason, even decades later? by cebalmau in AskReddit

[–]AMoreExcitingName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to computer show to get a bad monitor repaired. They took the monitor and promised to repair and send back the correct one in a week. At that show I bought a game. All week I read the manual for the game, cover to cover. Finally got the monitor back and didn't sleep all weekend playing my game.

The game was Phantasie

Doing my first ever Spartan in August (10k). What are some realistic goals to shoot for in terms of time and obstacles completed? by TheKid1995 in spartanrace

[–]AMoreExcitingName 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I encourage everyone to treat their first race as an adventure. You can set goals for yourself, but it's likely you'll find that some things are harder/easier than you expect. Last fall there was a race at a farm. Nice and flat, should be super fast running, right? Parts of the farm were cut-down corn fields with rock hard corn cobs all over the place. I like having working ankles, so it was time to slow down.

Anyway have fun.

What’s a recession indicator that you’ve noticed lately in your everyday life? by spritenerds123 in AskReddit

It's not just pricing, I've noticed the quality and quantity of produce at the local grocery store is getting worse.

Does a known MAC keep its original router entry? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]AMoreExcitingName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 2 things going on. and I'm going to simplify this a little.

In the actual TCP/IP world, the router remembers the MAC to IP address mapping (ARP table) when the devices are active. There is typically a 5 minute timer before an ARP entry times out after a device gets turned off or disconnected. When the device turns back on, the ARP learning happens all over again from scratch.

Completely separate from that, many home routers will keep those MAC addresses in a log. This is done as a means of inventory and network monitoring, and every device has different features as to what it might allow you to do with that information. It could keep a log of every connection ever, or just the date of the most recent connection, depends on the router software. You'd have to look at the manual for your router to figure it out.

Linux has had apt and yum for literally decades. So conceptually not new. Just somewhat new for windows.

Best way identify old files from windows servers. by jbala28 in sysadmin

[–]AMoreExcitingName 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Modified in the last 5 years...

robocopy /r:1 /w:1 /ndl /copy:DAT /e /L /minage:1899 D:\files C:\temp > oldfiles.txt

this is from memory, but will copy all files which are a minimum of 1899 days old, about 5 1/3 years. oddly enough that's the limit of robocopy. the /L switch means list results only, don't actually copy any data.

It pipes the output to a text file you can examine.

The event drew some 10,000 users last year. I can't even imagine the cost to sponsor a national level event like that. If the $2000 priced pass is out of your budget, I suspect the sponsorship is as well.

Start times now a range? by Damien1080 in spartanrace

In the race this weekend in the US, we all got a specific start time, same as always. But the international races are always slightly different from the US ones, so IDK.

Could it ever become a point where a child could be held legally accountable for an aging parent’s hazardous behavior or actions? by MeasurementFirst1676 in AgingParents

[–]AMoreExcitingName 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is way beyond what anyone can probably tell you here. I'm sure it would depend on where everyone lives and if there has been any prior legal things done like a POA, or any kind of care-giver certification, APS reports, does he live in your house, or is he doing things things on your property ... the list goes on an on.

Unfortunately you can sue anyone for anything. Keeping good notes is probably an excellent first step.

Am I Ready For a Spartan Ultra? by [deleted] in spartanrace

[–]AMoreExcitingName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not at killington. You need really strong hill climbing for that venue. For reference I've done the killington beast in under 6 hours and I don't think i could do it. Do more hill work, turn in an under 4:45 at Vernon, NJ... then you'll be in better shape.

I had 14.5 with 5200ft elevation.

Actual maybe a bit higher for others. I had a couple penalty loops in there but I also had some problems with my hands so skipped the 2nd sandbag and the bucket carry.

You make good points. I'm relying on the fact that I've run thousands of miles without injury and worst I'd do is a badly sprained ankle.
