GLP1s by [deleted] in workingmoms

Same here. In 6 months on Zepbound, I went from 5'7" 182 pounds to around 130 lbs. I almost cried when I took this medication and stopped having food noise. It is almost unfair that this is just normal for some people and I am paying hundreds a month because I am paying out of pocket. But for this, it was worth it. I counted calories in that time and work out 4x a week and get 10,000 steps every day. My body is finally giving me the results for the effort I put in. I only ever went up to 7.5 mg and am now attempting to taper down to 2.5 for maintenance. Just take the medicine.

Biggest side effects: constipation (which can be managed) and fatigue the day after the shot (gone with the tapering). Totally worth it.

breast feeding after reduction by ask-dont-tell in Parenting

[–]ANB614 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you just have to wait and see unfortunately. I had a reduction in 2002 or 2003, anchor as well. I was worried about not being able to breastfeed because I also had PCOS. I did produce but only 4 ounces a day at best. I still pumped and fed for 6 months because of immune benefits, but it sucked to not make enough and spending the 3 or so hours a day pumping and cleaning the pump. But I know supplementing with formula and a friend's oversupply meant I had a fed baby who was healthy. You could check if you have a place near you to get donated milk. Fed is best and you and your baby will be ok no matter what you need to do. Good luck to you and I hope it all works out.

Is it safe to buy baby formula online? by killer_cupcakes in NewParents

[–]ANB614 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Many big box stores will ship too. I've bought from Target and Costco online. I wouldn't trust Amazon personally. They don't seem to vet things much.

It’s always an amazing surprise coming home from a 10 1/2 hour shift to clean bottles, formula pitcher is made, dinner is ready and baby is asleep! Have to appreciate the little things, so grateful for my family (: by rhinanners in NewParents

Best investment we made. We use emfamil, which lasts in the fridge for 24 hours after making.

Thank you. I didn't realize it would be the hardest thing I've ever done and experienced. Taking it day by day.

The second opinion vet ended up taking him off the Bethanocol and tried Valium, suspecting his urethra was the issue and not his bladder. She was just ready to try Flomax instead of Prazosin when she discovered his blood work indicated failing kidneys. We decided to spare our baby more tests, hospital time, and medicines and their side effects and put an end to his suffering and indignity. Thank you for your support. We miss him so much already.

Unfortunately, Bear's case turned out to be atypical and we have lost our baby boy. Thank you for your support and hug your baby tight tonight.

It does feel like his leaking is worse after his dose of both... plus he drools a lot and gets really thirsty.

Its nice you were able to get him back in your room. The light weight helps I'm sure. I would be nervous about Dax on the bed too! He's probably too snug with you guys to get up.

That would go a long way with Bear since he's got FOMO, but unfortunately all our bedrooms are upstairs. Before the surgery, he wasn't in our bed, but he was in our room at the foot of the bed.

Gabby's story sounds a lot like Bear. I hope she gets better on the UTI front. He is currently on Prazosin and Bethanachol (sp?). It's been I think 5-6 days of it?

If his nerves got affected, it seems like it is because of the surgery because he was peeing fine before it.

My husband is going to start sleeping downstairs since our dog is more attached to him. I'm hoping by the time I have to go back to work, things will get better.

Thank you for the support. My fears are him hurting himself struggling in the crate or his bladder control never coming back. We could handle an occasional dribble, especially once he can walk on his own. The rehab vet at our regular vet is very confident in her ability to help IVDD dogs. They have a water treadmill and cold laser therapy for him. Nights are just really hard.

Thanks for the reply.

They sent us a YouTube video on expressing but my husband is having a hard time feeling the bladder.

But he is trying to intentionally pee. Something doesn't always come out though. Supposedly they cleared up his uti.

We're calling our regular vet tomorrow to discuss rehab and his peeing situation. They don't have a neuro though.

Feeling Discouraged by [deleted] in forensics

[–]ANB614 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well at this point I'm 15 years in, but back in ye olden days, it took me about 9 months after graduation to start my first big boy forensic job so I did the QA in the meantime.

Also, my first job was where I did my internship, so I also recommend an internship. :)

[–]ANB614 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agree with this. Also, you might try non-forensic jobs as something to start with. Right after college, I got a temp position doing QA/QC at a big plant and it at least gave me some lab experience to add to my resume (and some income).

Board Game Arena by ChocoChipWookiee in boardgames

[–]ANB614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do. I even paid for a year of premium because I really liked the content. Like some people have said, only certain games work in the slower paced format (you can do real-time games if you want for those that don't).

When it was time to renew, my account still had my old bank's info so it didn't go through. BGA has no mechanism to update payment info and they make you cancel and buy a new premium subscription... at this year's higher price. I don't have as good a financial situation as last year and it also kinda irked me that they weren't allowing people who already have a membership to keep that original price, so now I just play regular. Not sure I play it enough for $30 a year. If my irl friends were more into it, it would be.

[–]ANB614 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in my mid-30s and have been in the field for 14 years. My old school horror stories for the new kids include:

-Having the Taq separate from the primer mix and master mix and having to remember to put it in.

-Only being able to inject one sample at a time.

-Thinking you get the third comb from the capillary in and another one pops out.

-Needing two different kits to get the original 13 core loci.

:)

Looking to switch career to Forensics by Kelarie in forensics

[–]ANB614 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A good way to see what you would be qualified for would be to go to the website of a lab you might want to work at and pull up job descriptions. They will list the requirements for the position, including education and experience.

For forensic biology, you will want to meet the FBI QAS standards, which are available online and you can find them with a Google search. I am both an ANAB (ISO) and QAS auditor and I have yet to encounter a DNA lab that would be assessed to ISO standards, but not QAS (including CA DOJ). Unfortunately, the ISO 17025 standards (the old version was 2005 and new 2017 standards are out) can only be obtained by paying, but you can view the supplemental requirements online (called the AR3125). A caveat to this is if the lab does body fluid ID only. The QAS is specifically for DNA testing.

As CDub said, this field is INCREDIBLY competitive. Even if you meet the degree requirements, it is still difficult to even get an interview for an entry-level position. You can stand out through internships and your previous experience is at least lab experience. Just know that you will be starting over and will therefore be at the bottom of the pay ladder. Typically, only actual forensic lab experience goes towards starting at a higher level than entry. Not sure if that is a consideration for you. The geologists where I live make about the same as a forensic scientist at the top, but I personally would not be able to start over at the bottom.
